About this property

Historic Property, 1860's Barn, Cold A/C, 12 Minutes to Downtown Durango!

****NOTE: THE QUOTED PRICING IS FOR THE MAIN SIDE OF THE BARN (5 Beds). LOCKOFF SIDE OF THE BARN (1 Bed) REQUIRES AN ADDITIONAL FEE. PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION.

Post Built in 1860, this Amish built barn was constructed in north central Indiana just before the outbreak of the Civil War. This excellent example of early hand-hewn post & beam construction was carefully dismantled and transported to the Durango area where it was rebuilt exactly as it originally stood. Located just seven miles outside of Durango, the 'barn' includes a 30 foot high living-dining-kitchen area, one King and five Queen beds, four bathrooms, with plenty of parking and wonderful views (see north porch view above). Furnished with antiques from the Colonial to Civil War period, the barn is trimmed out with 160 year-old wood from the barn. Situated on 11 acres there is plenty of room to walk the property, enjoy the views, and enjoy all that Durango has to offer. The Barn is AIR CONDITIONED!

The Barn has a king in the master, queen in the second and third bedrooms, and 2 queens in the loft. Enjoy a full kitchen with plenty of seating, and a comfortable living room. Sleeps 10. There is a "lockoff" available at the barn that can be connected at an additional cost. This would add another master suite with master bath and a loft area with a sleeper sofa and one more bathroom. Also, this would give you an additional full kitchen and living area. Perfect for large families that want to spread out. Rent one side of the barn, or both Each side is priced separately . . . Please inquire for a full description of the South side and prices.

Also available for families . . . a high chair, pac-n-play, and misc. baby items!

Unique, comfortable lodging, great view
We have stayed at the Curry Barn 4 times, so obviously we like it! The furnishings are very comfortable, and the barn was fully stocked with everything you might need. It has A/C now, but we did not need to use it since the weather was so nice. The view is great, and we saw deer daily in the yard. I only wish it had a bigger deck so we could spend more time outdoors, then it would be perfection!

Curry Barn and Extension
We rented the main Barn and Extension for a First Cousin Family Reunion for five days. There were twelve of us which accounted for eight families. Ages were mid fifties through mid seventies. We have a reunion every year. This was the first reunion in Colorado. A one word description of our stay would be “FANTASTIC”, we will be back in the future. Durango is a lovely location. Great to get away from the heat of Texas. My wife and I visit Durango several times a year and know several of the Main Avenue store owners personally. We knew that the area would be friendly and welcoming to visitors. The Barn was well stocked in the kitchen with plenty of dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils. We ate two dinners and two lunches and always had what we needed to cook three course meals. The ladies loved the open floor plan and large kitchen of the Barn side while the Extension side had plenty of room for breakfast for those on that side. All bedrooms had plenty of bedding and sheets. The beds were hard but after a few days we made adjustments to make them comfortable. Bathrooms had all that was required, except bath soap! It might have been an oversight by the cleaning crew but we have never stayed in a location that did not provide a new bar of soap for each bath, shower, and lavatory. Additionally a large group needs more than one trash bin for long stays. We never used any TV's only the WIFI. The WI-FI worked perfect with plenty of speed. We had the windows open at night with the fans so never used the AC. With all the beautiful windows the sun warmed things up in the morning so the heat was not used. It made for a perfect outdoor feel. We filled each day with sightseeing and shopping. Local places we visited included the Bar-D show and dinner theater and of course the Durango & Silverton train. Downtown was as fun as usual. Plenty of stores to visit and places to eat, don't miss the Corner Crepes. Played Putt-putt for some serious Texas BBQ. Side note: I have been to Aspen for work and pleasure more times than I can count. Go to Durango for less crowds, friendly people and to save your money. Out of town we visited Mesa Verde (a must), Four Corners, Shiprock, Purgatory (better in Winter) and Pagosa Springs. Plenty to do for everyone. Durango Colorado Vacations was a great organization to work with. They helped give us piece of mind with a couple concerns about bedrooms and bathrooms. Twelve people using only five bathrooms takes a little work. Worked out for us after we saw the arrangement. In short, Curry Barn was perfect for us and we are anxious to return.

Delightful
Our group had a wonderful stay at the Curry Barn. The accommodations and amenities were both wonderful. Beautiful kitchen, dining and open areas for our party of 6 to cook and dine. We were on motorcycles so getting groceries was an issue but we discovered that Instacart will deliver anything you need to this location as well. The BBQ grill came in handy and the kitchen was very well stocked for condiments & other supplies. The Barn isn't too far from the main road yet still tucked away to provide a very peaceful & quiet experience. The views were incredible as well. The Barn is a quick and gorgeous drive from Durango. Many "Thanks" to the owners for changing their schedule to allow us an extra day as we never wanted to leave. We will definitely return and highly recommend the Curry Barn.

The whole Curry Barn
The architecture is wonderful, the property open and the skygazing beautiful. It was great to stay in this unique structure. My whole family (8 of us) stayed here for a week around Christmas, and we were greeted with a nice layer of snow. The radiant floor heating keeps the place super comfortable, and there are plenty of bathrooms for a large group. The only complaint would be that the water here is very soft. This makes showering very slippery (no big deal), and the tap water very salty. Basically undrinkable. I would have liked if the hosts provided some alternative system for drinking water (RO or a dispenser). The trash facilities weren't quite adequate for our large group, although we made do. One of the windows didn't close away, allowing a draft in the kitchen. But this is a unique structure with so much to offer, these small things didn't negatively affect our stay at all.
