Perfect house for a big family get together. Lots of spaces for people to gather or just do their own thing. The highlight was undoubtedly the large swimming pool where everyone spent most of their time. Nice outdoor dining area and BBQ where we ate most of our meals. The patio at the front of the house was perfect for sitting in shade when the sun got too hot, looking out into the green rolling lawn and a beautiful redwood tree. Lots of games for the kids and the adults enjoyed the pool table too. Very well equipped kitchen with separate larder, two fridges, coffee machines and everything a cook would need. Patrice was very helpful and responsive.
We had a great holiday at this lovely French Chateau. Unfortunately we had a heat wave that brought out hundreds of flies. By the end of the week, the weather cooled and the number of flies decreased significantly. The rooms were quite hot as a result, however the owner supplied us with a fan and we purchased 2 others to make things more comfortable. The salt water pool was a pleasure to have. There were also several outdoor games to play. Shopping was close by. We visited a couple of wineries as part of a day trip. There were several other adventures that were available but we decided to spend more time together with the relatives. Check in and check out was easy. Thanks for a great time.
We visited the house and were so blown away - the photos don’t do it justice. The pool is perfect, clean and safe for children. The grounds are ideal for playing and for relaxing. The house is very impressive , with a well stocked kitchen for all cooking requirements! The rooms are spacious. We liked the cupboard full of games!
All the family stayed in the period house in large grounds, covered parking, pool, barbecue and lots more. The house was comfortably furnished and suited our needs for 9 nights. Beautiful surroundings, village centre a few metres away. Would definitely recommend this property for a large group.

Nice property, pity about the owner's attitude.
After a lovely week in this rustic but well equipped house, we had a bad experience in dealing with the owner. On arrival he seemed pleasant enough, however when we vacated the property (having paid extra for a cleaner at his request) his attitude had changed.
We explained that we had broken one plastic chair in the garden and that two of the wooden chairs in the kitchen had broken when people sat in them due to previous poor repairs. He admitted that the kitchen chairs had been broken previously and did not seem concerned by this. Neither did he seem bothered about the fact that we couldn’t use one of the bedrooms because some kind of large rodent was making gnawing noises throughout the night. Or that one of the children had been locked in the downstairs toilet for half an hour due to a broken lock.
However, as we were about to get into our cars, he stormed out of the house with a tablecloth. He complained about a few red wine stains, but did this aggressively, swearing loudly in English and French in front of our children. He then stormed back into the house swearing before we could say anything.
On returning to England, we emailed him to apologise for the tablecloth and received no response. We then waited for our refundable damage deposit to be returned. No response for over a week. We emailed him again and he then sent an extremely rude response referring to the state of the property, which we’d left practically as we’d found it – apart from cleaning the bathrooms, vacuuming upstairs and used towels, which we’d assumed was what we’d paid the cleaner for.
He also said that he was charging us for the replacement of the one plastic chair we broke and the repair of the two wooden chairs, which he had admitted had been previously broken.
We did not contest this as we just want our money back, to forget the bad experience of dealing with him and to remember the lovely holiday we had. However, he has still not returned our money – 18 days after we had vacated the property – and he is now not responding to any of our emails.
Apart from this experience, the house is lovely, the garden and pool were just what we wanted and the location is peaceful and great for long walks.
If you don’t mind dealing with a rude and erratic owner and possibly not getting your damage deposit back, a great vacation. Otherwise, AVOID!
Merci à Patrice ;

A great holiday spent in this beautiful large peaceful chateau. Plenty of room for all 19 of us. Most of our time was spent outside in the amazing grounds…mainly in the lovely pool, and all meal times were shared alfresco in the rustic BBQ area. Lovely region to explore…lots of fun canoeing at Ruffec, a beautiful place to have a picnic too by the river. A little further away, trips to La Rochelle & Isle de Ré are certainly worth a visit. Closer to home, a cheerful bar and épicerie down the road for a quick snack and beer…also stumbled across a salon du thé run by a lovely English couple, again within walking distance of the chateau. House owner, Patrice, was very friendly on our arrival and explained everything in detail about the house and its amenities. Fabulous holiday…we would definitely return to Clussais-la-Pommeraie in the future.
As a large group of 14 it was great to all be seated round both the inside and outside tables. We used the BBQ for every evening meal. There were plenty of rooms in which to spread out. The large gardens, secure pool and outdoor games equipment were much appreciated. There are local tennis courts and playground and activity lakes not too far away.
It would be interesting for guests to be able to read a history of such a large and interesting house/chateau.
