About this property
140 Madelief by Interhome
type of building: bungalow. size of property: 200m². year of construction: 1990.
Are you looking for peace and quiet in unspoilt nature, where you can also experience a lot?
Then you are welcome in my little house in the Lauwersmeer National Park in the north of the Netherlands in Friesland. The Lauwersmeer is a gigantic lake that was originally part of the North Sea, but was dyked in the 1960s. It is now a bird paradise and also offers all kinds of water sports. Off the coast are the beautiful West Frisian Islands, which can be reached by ferry. Cycling tours through the charming old Terp villages or to the historic Hanseatic town of Dokkum are an experience all year round. Towns such as Leeuwarden or Groningen offer museums, cosy cafés, various festivals and invite you to stroll around. Children will not miss out here either, the local history museum 'Vissershuske' in Moddergat and guided mudflat walks are an experience, and a small swimming beach is only 5 minutes away from the house.
The offers of the national park and the Dark Sky project are also exciting.
Layout: Two small bedrooms, one with a double bed (1.40 m x 2.00 m) and one with bunk beds (90 cm x 1.90 m), living room with combined kitchenette, and a bathroom. The living room and bathroom can be heated so that the cottage is cosy and warm even in winter. The house has a terrace and a garden as well as its own car park.
The house has a west-facing terrace, which means there is sun from midday to evening on nice days and you can barbecue. You have your own car park and a garden shed for storing bicycles, for example.
Oostmahorn is a fortified village from the early 16th century with an extensive history on what was then the Lauwerszee. Today it is an attractive tourist destination on the edge of the Lauwersmeer National Park and has two holiday parks.
The lake and its immediate surroundings are a paradise for nature lovers, fishermen, water sports enthusiasts, hikers and cyclists. Dog lovers and their four-legged friends also get their money's worth here. Lauwersoog has a dog beach, for example, and you are very welcome in the Ballastplaat forest, among other places.
There are various play options for children within a few hundred metres of the chalet, including a climbing frame on the beach, a playing field at De Skâns holiday park and a playground with a bouncy cushion in Esonstad, which is located behind the beach. There is also an indoor play paradise in the old Frisian-style fortified town, which is open for much of the year, and you can play a round of golf or footgolf at Pitch & Putt. A bicycle or e-chopper can also be hired here.
For your daily groceries (a large supermarket is a few kilometres away in Anjum) you can also go to the local supermarket in Esonstad. Other facilities include a restaurant, a pizzeria and a snack bar. Even closer to the chalet - in the marina and on the dyke - there are also 3 excellent restaurants with magnificent views over the Lauwersmeer. You are in the right culinary spot on this former arm of the Wadden Sea. In the harbour of Lauwersoog you will find a variety of fish restaurants and the former seaport of Zoutkamp on the other side of the Lauwersmeer also offers a wide selection of restaurants. Finally, a visit to historic and picturesque Dokkum with its fortresses, shops and terraces is highly recommended.
To discover the national park from the water, you can of course bring your own boat, but just around the corner from the chalet you can also hire various sloops, sailing boats or canoes from Paviljoen La Barca. A round trip, a trip to Dokkum or a birdwatching excursion on the former cargo ship Vlinderbalg are also possible, and a ferry to Schiermonnikoog departs from here several times a week. From Lauwersoog, you can take part in seal and mudflat walks and, depending on the tide, enjoy the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site on the dry Engelsmanplaat.
The Lauwersmeer is a favourite with fish lovers. Lots of bream and roach swim here, but you can also fish for zander and perch. You can buy a fishing licence at the reception of Holland1.
Do you like walking and want to relax? For example, visit the fishing village of Paesens-Moddergat on the sea dike with its museum 't Fiskershúske. You can also go on various daily mudflat walks in this authentic double village. Or simply stay at home in and outside your chalet. Don't forget to look up on a cloudless late evening and enjoy the starry sky and the Milky Way. It is not for nothing that the Lauwersmeer area (together with the Boschplaat on Terschelling) has been declared a Dark Sky Park by the International Dark Sky Association. In short: a special place in a unique environment!
