Lovely, quiet location but easily accessible to bigger places to visit. A charming house which felt like a home. Accommodated all of us and the swimming pool was a huge hit and very well used. Sheltered outdoor space was very much used and perfect for late evening meals and games. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it.
Jon was very helpful with answering any questions we had and communicating with us. His chateau we stayed at was a perfect escape from the business of Paris.. complete with huge private property, lovely terrace to enjoy meals and an afternoon glass of wine. The pool was very inviting during the warm afternoons. All the rooms were nicely appointed and I felt like I was transformed back in time a couple hundred years ago. The two rooms on the second floor were much better than the three on the top floor. The beds were very comfortable.I would stay there again, but recommend having a car to get around to the larger surrounding towns where there’s more to do and better grocery options.
This beautifully restored house is very charming and comfortable. The grounds are pristine, with lovely fruit trees and fragrant lavender. The heated pool was very much appreciated. I will note that the bedrooms and bathroom on the third floor are better suited to children rather than adults.
such a nice house and amazing garden. everything is beautiful and confortable, unless 2 or 3 beds which are not as confortable as expected for such a great house.

Thank you Catherine for your nice comments of our lovely house. It's the first time anyone have complained about our beds.

“Shabby chic” family home, lovely garden
We loved our stay at the house, lovely long garden and super pool (after we asked for it to be cleaned). The outside covered eating and bbq area was perfect. This is a “shabby chic” property with an unpredictable oven and NO air conditioning. But still a lovely family home.

Thank you for your nice description of our lovely property.
The pool was clean but had leaves on the bottom because of wind and the tenant before you that didn't cover the pool.

Lovely property, well lived in by owners. House full of their clutter. Little space to put anything. Kitchen space tiny. Fridge and freezer was full of their food. We were staying 2 weeks, so we binned their food, had to clean fridge and freezer before we could use it. Gas oven, temperature control evidently broken as on the very lowest number the oven got extremely hot. Was easier to BBQ and use the hobs. No cupboards, a few small shelves, again full of their open packets of food. NOT WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A 5 STAR PROPERTY. Beds are the most uncomfortable I've ever slept in. Had dreadful backache. Main bedroom, wardrobe locked, there's a clothes rail with a few hangers. 2nd bedroom, wardrobe full of laundry. Other bedrooms, apart from beds, nowhere to put anything. Photos of the property make it look amazingly spacious, but the grand piano takes up the whole of one side of the living room. There is one armchair between the piano and the french doors. The other half of the living room is taken up with a very long sideboard (locked and the top covered with all their clutter) and a long sofa (seats 4) and 2 armchairs. Not a great deal of room for 8.Pool is NOT MAINTAINED. OWNER EXPECTS YOU TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN POOL DURING YOUR STAY. NO PRODUCTS LEFT FOR CLEANING POOL. Listing of property is incorrect. THERE IS NO JUCUZZI. ONSITE PARKING FOR ONE CAR ONLY. CLOSEST PARKING IS 200 - 300 YARDS AWAY IN THE VILLAGE SQUARE OUTSIDE THE CHURCH.

I think that this review does not correspond with the reality.
Better have a look at the reviews from clients in front and clients afterwards .

Firstly I must say we had a lovely week, We stayed the last week of June in the middle of a heatwave and the pool was very welcoming. However whilst we didn't expect air conditioning a fan in the bedrooms would have been a nice touch, these extreme heat waves are going to be the norm. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is plenty of crockery. The beds are comfortable but I would not say the house is suitable for 10, 6 would be a push. The bedrooms on the top floor are small and its very hot up there. There is also only 2 toilets in the property so always a queue for the loo! There are bats in the attic so if you are sleeping upstairs and hear noise is only the bats returning the their roost. The Garden is huge but a bit overgrown & neglected. We didn't find a kitchen garden with any lettuce etc and the herbs we did find were suffering from lack of water. If like me you like to lay on a sunbed by the pool you'll be disappointed yes there are deckchairs but if you want to lay down its a towel on the grass which is very hard and uncomfortable. There is no hot tub - this didn't bother us but if its important to you its worth mentioning. The train runs along close to the back of the garden but its not too intrusive. The bar down the road doesn't sell bread anymore so the nearest shop is a 5 min drive. As I said we had a good week but the house and gardens would benefit from a little tlc.

The client left the pool covered, not following my latest instructions not to cover due to hot weather, so it was at 35 degrees and green when I arrived.
After several days of hard work to clean it we had to empty the entire pool.

Prachtig gebied, mooi huis. Alleen alles is erg gedateerd.

This house is an absolute dream! The garden is amazing and the house is very tastefully decorated. It has all the facilities you need for the perfect holiday in France. Upon arrival we had some miscommunication on where the keys could be found, but Jon was quick on the communication and he made sure we were able to find our way in the house and in the neighbourhood. The house is situated in a quite village and offers lots of privacy.
Nearby the house there are plenty of nice villages (like Vélezay) and nature to enjoy. If you are looking for a quite place to spend your holiday this house will be the perfect match! We absolutely recommend this place.
This is our second visit. The first was in 2016 and we can see the improvements that have been made over the past few years. An excellent property, ideally located for the wine regions we love in France.

Ulrike and friends stayed a week in August 2018 at our lovely property in Burgundy. They behaved very well and took great care of the old house with antique furniture and silk curtains. I can fully recommend Ulrike for other tenants. Jon Schultz

Tranquil and beautiful
Lovely house in quiet village location.
The garden is spectacular, really beautiful, peaceful, magical; a delight!
Swimming pool was very nice, a godsend on rare hot days.
Village was small and friendly. Baguettes sold each morning in the pub within a stones throw.
Would highly recommend this for an escape for some down time. It suited our small family very well. I would not want to go there with a group of 10, particularly non-family members as I do not think it would cater well for this- plenty of beds but only 2 bathrooms and no large tables to sit around, but for a small group looking to escape the strains of busy life in a charming surrounding it was perfect.
The house was very stylish. I imagine it would be lovely in winter too with the nice log fire.

Accueillante maison
Merci M. Schultz

Well positioned for our needs. Clean and tidy. Welcome on arrival was perfect.
The accommodation was exactly as described with comfortable seating and the most wonderful open fire. The kitchen and dining area was suited to 8 guests, and there appeared to be a problem with the cooker thermostat. It didn't stop us cooking.
The weather was disappointing as we had hoped to use the pool, which Jon had kindly opened for us just in case.
The village itself was quiet, but Clamecy was only a short drive.

Harvest moon
As a newly established family of three, we happily exchanged our jobs and stressful big city life for a calm and peaceful September month on parental leave with our new-born son in Crain, France.
The beautiful and well restored house, the perfectly planned private garden, the sound from the village church bell and the landscape surrounding it all, offered us the calm peacefulness that we were in search for. The well equipped kitchen soon became the center for our daily activities, using plenty of time to plan and prepare great “slow-food”, being creative with the fresh supplies we found on the village markets. The private garden was rich with fruits, fresh herbs and vegetables that gave us plenty of ideas and delicious ingredients for dinners, deserts and marmalades. Along with the gardens generous nature, it provided us with an intimacy and privacy whether we were walking or playing around in it, preparing ourselves breakfast, lunch or dinner in the beautiful green scenery or allowing yourself a refreshing swim in the pool. The village surroundings has plenty of great stroller walks in the nearby woods, along the riverboat canals or crossing the cultivated fields covered with oats, corn and wild flowers. For longer excursions into the neighbor villages or the Bourgogne vineyards, one becomes dependent on the car.
The owner has collected a great number of travelling books side by side with a large collection of architecture and design book that comes handy for trip-planning, or general good reading on a rainy days. The house in Crain is highly recommendable for young adults and families with interest in great food and wine, spending a slow pace vacation in peaceful, charming and beautiful environments.

A perfect New Year!
We were fortunate to be able to celebrate such a fabulous New Year in such beautiful surroundings. Despite the bitter cold outside, the house was lovely and warm and the cosy fireplace created an inviting atmosphere and became the centerpoint of many a delightful evening of food, wine and joyful banter! The countryside offered many enjoyable and cultural outings and charming villages to stop for long lunches on the way!
We would definitely consider a spring or summer visit to enjoy the lovely gardens and pool and explore the area further.

Ultimate relaxation
We spent the most wonderful time in your beautiful home, relaxing, reading and writing. The pool with its lavender border is fabulous. It was a treat to prepare meals using the fresh lettuce and herbs from the garden. Enjoying lunch and dinner in the lovely garden or by the pool was so nice. It is truly a little paradise in Burgundy! We enjoyed visiting Vezelay and went for a picnic in Pierre Perthuis. The nearby markets, shops and restaurants are excellent. We hope to return soon with friends.
