About this property
Willow Run true Mid-Century Modern in Beautiful Palm Springs
Welcome to Willow Run, built in 1959, extensively renovated in 2013, and perfected in 2014. A supreme example of the iconic Palmer and Krisel design, built by the Alexander Construction Company, located in the heart of historic Racquet Club Estates in Palm Springs.
Care about the environment? Me too! Willow Run is solar powered, taking full advantage of the beautiful desert environment and doing its small part to reduce the electrical demands in the greater Palm Springs area.
Enjoy outdoor living at its very best with magnificent unobstructed views of the San Jacinto Mountains that are equally dramatic at sunrise and sunset. The saltwater pool and spa, fire pit, gas grill, manicured yard and covered patio area provide many options for enjoying the sheer beauty of the desert.
An equally peaceful interior awaits you as well. With three bedrooms and two-baths, this layout comfortably sleeps six. The master Suite sports a king size bed and direct access to back yard with private sitting area for morning coffee. Second bedroom has queen size bed, and third bedroom has a king / twin bed convertable. All bedrooms have luxurious linens and large closets, and there is a full sized washer dryer for convenience.
Willow Run, exclusively listed on VRBO and ABB , has an entirely new kitchen with new stainless steel appliances and an island where everyone can gather. The new cabinetry is well stocked with dishes, flatware, and all the pots, pans and utensils one would need to create anything from basic burgers on the grill to something more gourmet for a special occasion.
One of the nicest features of the floor plan is the addition of a true dining room adjacent to the open kitchen. It provides a touch of formality if a proper sit-down meal is on the agenda.
The living room is an open concept that incorporates the beautiful outdoors and embodies the indoor/outdoor aspects of these classic floor plans. The views of the serene back yard and pool are only topped by the amazing mountain views thru the clerestory windows over the kitchen and dining areas. A 55” HD flat screen with extensive cable package is available for your enjoyment, and Hi-speed Wi-Fi is also provided. The furniture is both comfortable and classic in its design, ideal for hanging out with friends and family. Additionally, the gas fireplace provides a wonderful ambiance for the cool desert nights.
The art in Willow Run was selected to compliment the interior, reflect the history of Palm Springs and some of its historic images and characters, and also provide a little clue as to the naming of the house.
Enjoy!
Paul and Willow
Activities:
Palm Springs truly does offer a full plate of year round activities.
Like to golf? (me too!) Well, you are in the right place. There are over a hundred and twenty courses in the desert cities offering numerous options appropriate to any skill level from a beginner to a tour pro. There are several courses within a ten-minute drive from Willow Run, making it extremely convenient to enjoy an early round and get back to the pool for a lazy afternoon.
Racquet Club Estates was founded around the historic tennis club, and tennis remains a very important part of the desert athletic and cultural scene.
Other athletic endeavors would include horseback riding, biking and mountain biking, swimming, and hiking in the mountains. Do remember that extra bottle of water though!
The tram to the top of the mountain is a Must Do when visiting the desert. The views from about 9,000 feet are impressive to say the least!
Shopping the mid-century shops along Palm Canyon drive is certainly fun, and you will find spas, libraries, movie theaters, even casinos, all very close to Willow Run. The outlets at Cabazon are always popular; about 20 minutes away by car. (Hello Prada outlet!!!)
More Local Info:
Palm Springs has many restaurants ranging from fun to fancy, so you will easily find a few to suit your taste. It is a “dining out” culture, so I would recommend you get reservations at wherever you chose. (Yes, even at Lulu and Las Casuelas.) Actually, especially at these two spots!!!
There are several terrific grocery stores nearby, including an Albertson’s that is literally 5 minutes away. Stocking the refrigerator for your stay won’t be a problem!
One can also find churches and synagogues close by.
The desert and surrounding cities have many world famous events, sporting, pop, and cultural in nature.
There are several professional golf tournaments featuring the PGA, LPGA, and Sr. PGA tours. There is BNP Paribas Tennis Tournament that is one of the most popular stops on that tour annually.
Mid Century Modernism Week has become a destination event for anyone interested in this important period of American design. Tours, lectures, and many “insider” events highlight this week.
The Palm Springs International Film Festival is one of the most prestigious and well-attended film festivals in the country. Offering twelve days of film screenings, presentations, tributes, on-stage celebrity interviews and nightly parties.
The Palm Springs Village Fest is another Must Do. Where every Thursday evening Downtown Palm Springs transforms into a diverse array of artists, artisans, entertainers, and purveyors of fresh fruits and veggies, flowers, jewelry, snacks and sweets.
In short, relax and do little, or pack in the activities. The choice is yours!
