The stay at the Shamrock House was excellent. Felt like you were going back in time to the 1920's. Beautiful property with lots of wildlife, saw a group of wild turkeys walk through along with deer. Awsome river behind cabins and if I had a rod and reel, would have tried some fly fishing. One evening drove to Brevard for dinner which was only about 30 mins away. Part of family stayed in Trout House and other half stayed in main cabin. Great views throughout. We will be back.
Nice Get Away In the Mountains
I went with the rest of our church staff. There was 10 people in our party. We had a really awesome time staying at the Shamrock House! The setting was beautiful.
As long as you don't go with the expectation of staying at the Ritz Carlton, you will enjoy yourself. The main cabin, after all, is an old cabin from the 1920s. It is rustic.
We enjoy the rustic, so it was perfect for our party.
The main house was beautiful and unique and was our main gathering place. We had a total of 15 and with having the three separate houses there was plenty of room for everyone. If you want to see some pretty country and take scenic hikes this is the place to stay. We also played The Rock golf course only ten minutes away at the foot of Table Rock and I would recommend this course to anyone who enjoys golf.
Great family retreat location!
We chose to have our extended-family Christmas celebration at the Shamrock House this year and, by all accounts, it was a roaring success! The main cabin, bunkhouse, and trout-stream house provided a great venue for our family of 17. We enjoyed the charm of the buildings and surrounding property. We went on two nearby hikes to waterfalls (5 miles and 2 miles in length) and visited the lookout tower at the top of Sassafras Mountain (the highest point in SC!). We also enjoyed walking the grounds and made a bonfire in one of the firepits. The quiet, peaceful mountain experience was perfect for our needs.
The living amenities in the properties were suitable for our needs of sleeping and feeding our gang. We prepped meals in the Trout House and served everyone in the main cabin. One note of caution is that the sleeping quarters in the bunkhouse were pretty tight and we had to move one guest to a couch in the main cabin.
The hosts were very accommodating and everything was pretty much as they described. The wifi was critical as there was no cellular service from any of the providers that we had. Note that the extended wifi service did not reach down to the "honeymoon suite" in the bottom of the Trout House so a couple of us were truly "off the grid" at night.
All in all, a very unique, fun, and nice property.
Great Thanksgiving Family Vacation
Our family had a great Thanksgiving at the Shamrock House. The three houses can accommodate several families with children. The children loved the open areas to run and play. They loved cooking hot dogs over the open fire pit. The home is rustic but a lot of fun.

Why Nathan McGowan Owner / Manager chose Rocky Bottom
My life-long dream has always been to own a cabin in the mountains. I literally searched for years, and never could find a place that "checked all of the boxes"...until I found The Shamrock House. We fell in love with the charm and history of the property, and look forward to creating memories at this wonderful place. We are forever indebted to the previous owner, who renovated the buildings and grounds to bring the property back to its former glory, and now you have an opportunity to enjoy the results.
What makes this House unique
It is truly unique. The grounds cover 10 acres bordered by Rocky Bottom Creek and the Jocassee Gorges Heritage Preserve. There are extensive stone walls and walks laid down in the 1920's and many specimen sized trees. Many different wild flowers can be seen throughout out the growing season including rare Oconee Bells and Trillium's. The main cabin is constructed of cedar logs with American Chestnut paneling and floors. The extra large porch of the main cabin has hand made tables, chairs and swings by local artisan Bob McCall. The Trout Stream House has great views of the Bear Meadow and Rocky Bottom Creek. Locals tell tales of Nancy the Ghost who makes herself known from time to time in the main cabin (seems to be only when the adults have had a drink or two!). Maybe yes, maybe no. And, President Lyndon Johnson liked the place well enough to spend some time at The Shamrock House himself. The location is such that one can be on the Foothills Trail in less than five minutes and at Lake Keowee or Jocassee in 30 minutes, and also Brevard or Pickens in about the same time.
