About this property
Spacious Group Cabin Overlooking Moose Lake with Vaulted Ceilings, Loft & Porch
Shorewood Cabin at Vosburgh’s Custom Cabin Rentals is spacious, scenic, and designed with group getaways in mind. Perched just above the main landing on Moose Lake, this timber-style cabin offers direct lake access, unforgettable sunset views, and a peaceful setting ideal for family retreats, fishing trips, or multi-group adventures. With its large footprint and open layout, Shorewood is built for gathering—whether that’s around a meal, a fire, or the screened porch looking out over the water.
For over 50 years, Vosburgh’s Custom Cabin Rentals has been family-owned and operated, serving generations of paddlers, anglers, and Northwoods explorers. As one of the last remaining cabin resorts with direct access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), we take pride in offering guests the perfect blend of remote wilderness access and resort-style support. From outfitting advice to boat rentals, we’re here to make your time in Ely unforgettable.
Shorewood is a wonderful option for families looking to share the magic of the Boundary Waters with their children—while still enjoying the comfort and ease of cabin life. With many nearby day trip paddle routes, including the popular Lake One loop, it's an ideal home base for introducing kids to canoe country. Moose Lake is excellent for fishing and swimming; children love jumping off our docks. While we don’t have a pool, the lake provides plenty of fun and refreshment. Our website offers additional nearby day trip paddle and hiking suggestions to help plan your adventure.
Shorewood features two private bedrooms on the main floor, each with a queen bed, and a large split loft upstairs with six twin beds—comfortably sleeping up to 10 guests. The cabin includes a full bathroom and a half bath, a well-stocked kitchen with open living and dining space, 20-foot vaulted ceilings for a lodge-like feel, and a free-standing fireplace for cozy evenings. The large screened-in porch provides panoramic lake views and a front-row seat to Moose Lake’s incredible sunsets.
As part of the resort, Shorewood guests enjoy full access to our docks, boat house, and fish cleaning facilities. Weekly rentals include a 16-foot Lund fishing boat with swivel seats. Optional rentals include 25 hp electric start/trim motors ($375/week or $75/day), depth finders, trolling motors, canoes, and live bait. Guests are also welcome to bring their own 25 hp motor or smaller.
Additional amenities include free parking for multiple vehicles and boat trailers, provided firewood for the fireplace, and all linens and blankets (please bring your own towels). Starlink WiFi is available in the boat house. The cabin has intermittent WiFi, making it an excellent spot to unplug. Pets are welcome but must be supervised and not left alone in the cabin. Smoking is not permitted indoors.
Shorewood is available May through October. Additional state and local lodging taxes not collected by VRBO may be due at check-in. Minimum stay requirements may apply during peak seasons. For larger groups, an adjacent cabin, Tanglewood (sleeps 6), is also available to rent.
Inquire directly about the procurement and availability of BWCA permits.
Whether you’re launching a canoe into the BWCA, casting a line at dawn, or winding down under the stars, Shorewood offers the space, setting, and history to make your Northwoods getaway truly memorable. Book your stay today and experience why families have returned to Vosburgh’s for generations.

We’re a family-run business based just outside Ely, Minnesota, with a long history of helping guests experience the beauty and solitude of the Northwoods.
For generations, we’ve shared our love of fishing, paddling, and quiet mornings on Moose Lake with families and friends who return year after year. Hosting gives us the chance to introduce new guests to the rhythm of the wilderness—slow mornings, sunset paddles, and time together that’s uninterrupted by screens or schedules.

Why they chose this property
Moose Lake sits at the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and looks directly into Canada’s Quetico Provincial Park. It’s remote enough to feel truly wild but still accessible by car.
We chose this spot for its panoramic lake views, quiet shoreline, and direct access to wilderness travel. Shorewood sits just above our main landing, offering easy water access while maintaining a sense of separation and privacy from the day-to-day outfitting activity below.

What makes this property unique
Shorewood is one of our largest and most versatile cabins, perfect for families, small groups, and reunions.
Its 20-foot vaulted ceilings, split loft, and screened porch overlooking the lake give it the feel of a true Northwoods lodge. What makes it truly special, though, is the balance it strikes between comfort and wilderness—you can sit by the fireplace one minute and be in a canoe heading into the BWCAW the next.
Many groups choose to rent Shorewood together with the neighboring smaller cabin for a multi-family getaway—gather together during the day, then retreat to your own space at night.
