About this property

Northwoods Cabin with Expansive Moose Lake Views and Direct BWCAW Access

Stay at one of Ely’s few cabin resorts located directly on a Boundary Waters entry lake. From our docks on Moose Lake—Entry Point 25—you can paddle or boat directly into the BWCAW without driving or shuttling to another launch.

Perched atop one of the highest points on our property, Kirk’s Cabin offers an expansive view across Moose Lake toward the Boundary Waters wilderness. Distinctive windows, beautiful custom woodwork, a fireplace and screened porches give the cabin plenty of traditional Northwoods character while making the most of its remarkable setting.

Kirk’s sleeps up to six guests in three private bedrooms. One bedroom has a queen bed, while the other two each have two twin beds. The cabin also includes a bathroom, comfortable living and dining areas, and a full kitchen equipped with a range, microwave, toaster, cookware, dishes and silverware. Satellite internet is available with generator backup.

Kirk’s sits above the shoreline rather than directly at the water. Guests can walk or make the short two-minute drive down the resort driveway to our shared central waterfront. There you’ll find multiple docks, a boathouse, fish-cleaning house, and boat and canoe area.

Stays of seven nights or longer include use of a 16-foot Lund fishing boat and canoe at no additional charge. The boat has a floor and swivel seats. A motor is not included, but motors are available to rent separately.

Moose Lake offers excellent fishing and direct access to the Moose–Newfound–Sucker lake chain and the Boundary Waters beyond. Guests can enjoy everything from a quiet morning paddle to a full day exploring the BWCAW. Nearby hiking options include the Secret/Blackstone trails and Kawishiwi Falls, along with many other routes through the Superior National Forest.

After a day of fishing, paddling or hiking, return to the screened porch to enjoy the fresh air, listen for loons and watch the changing light over Moose Lake.

Kirk’s is a traditional Northwoods cabin and does not have air conditioning. It is pet-friendly and makes a comfortable home base for families, anglers and outdoor travelers who want convenient wilderness access without giving up a full kitchen, comfortable beds and reliable internet.

Bed linens, cookware, dishes and standard kitchen equipment are provided. Guests should bring bath and kitchen towels, food, personal items and charcoal for the grill.

Most summer reservations run Saturday to Saturday. Shorter or more flexible stays may be available depending on the season.

Vosburgh’s Custom Cabin Rentals is a family-run Moose Lake resort with generations of experience welcoming guests to this special corner of the Northwoods. We’re happy to share local knowledge and help guests plan fishing outings, day paddles and nearby adventures.

Unmatched beauty and service!

From the moment we walked in , Willie and Betsy were absolutely fantastic. We were met promptly and pleasantly, shown to our cabin, and it was clear that if we needed ANYTHING, all we had to do was ask. We stayed in Cabin #9, at the top of the bluff, and the views were out of this world. We stayed during the height of the Perseid Meteor shower, and were not disappointed. The skies were crystal clear, and virtually no light pollution. We visited several of the museums in Ely, and highly recommend making the trip to Soudan to visit the mine. Me and my two boys (11 and 13 years) loved it. They warn against people who are claustrophobic, but none of us felt particularly closed in, and there were no tight spaces. In my opinion, the darkness was the only thing that may cause difficulties for some people. We didn't have much luck fishing, but it seemed we were the exception, as the fish house was bustling the whole time we were there. We have every intention of coming back next year!

Ely for Memorial Day Weekend

The cabin was nice. Beds were comfortable. Fishing boat and motor that we rented were great. Unfortunately, the weather provided no help with the fishing. Only criticism I have of the place was the satellite TV. It was worthless unless we wanted to buy a movie. It would have been nice if there had been at least a DVD player in the cabin for the kids and entertainment at night. I was told I could have saved $ had I contacted the owners directly on the cabin rental. Good to know for future reference. Otherwise, it was a nice place with great views from the cabin. I feel the whole family had a good time for the weekend.

It was more than we anticipated. The view is worth the trip. You won't miss your cell phone.

I rented the property for my father's birthday get away. The cabin was clean and stocked with everything we needed. We did not have any kids with us, and we slept 5 adults in the cabin comfortably. We all remarked on how we didn't miss the TV or the distraction of a cell phone. It was truly a peaceful place. The staff on property was pleasant and more than helpful. They came to check on us each morning and remove the garbage and recycling. They also offered to help get the boat in the lake and helped us with canoes. It was refreshing that the 'extras' didn't cost extra. Also I appreciated the opportunity to bring our dog with us, he enjoyed his Ely adventure as well. Thank you Willy for everything.

We’re a family-run cabin resort based in Ely, Minnesota, with deep roots in the Northwoods. Our family has welcomed guests to Moose Lake for generations, and we take pride in carrying on that tradition.

We love fishing, paddling, hiking and spending time outdoors, and we’re always happy to help guests make the most of their visit. Whether you’re planning a Boundary Waters day trip, looking for a good fishing spot or simply hoping to slow down by the lake, we want you to feel comfortable and at home here.

Why they chose this property

Our cabins are located on Moose Lake, about 20 miles east of Ely and directly on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Moose Lake is BWCAW Entry Point 25, so guests can paddle or boat directly from our docks into the Boundary Waters without driving or shuttling to another launch.

The area offers world-class fishing, wonderful BWCAW day paddles and beautiful nearby hiking at places such as Secret Blackstone and Kawishiwi Falls. We especially love the quiet, the expansive lake and wilderness views, the sound of loons and the feeling of being surrounded by the Northwoods while still being within driving distance of Ely.

What makes this property unique

What truly sets our property apart is its direct access to both Moose Lake and the Boundary Waters. Guests can begin a fishing trip, day paddle or longer BWCAW adventure right from our central boat landing—no need to trailer a boat or drive to another entry point.

We’re a long-established, family-run cabin resort rather than a single standalone vacation rental. Our family has welcomed visitors to Moose Lake for generations, and we offer the experience, equipment and waterfront facilities that come with that history. Guests have access to docks, a boathouse and a fish-cleaning house, along with fishing boats included with weekly stays and motor rentals available separately.

Each cabin has its own character and setting, from shoreline locations to hilltop cabins with expansive views toward the Boundary Waters. Together, they offer a rare combination of comfortable cabin living, resort services, world-class fishing and immediate access to one of Minnesota’s most remarkable wilderness areas.
