About this property

Cabin on Lake Byllesby Minnesota Birding, Boating, Biking, Hiking, Colleges

This lovely, newly remodeled cabin on the hill top of Lake Byllesby is a great get-a-way or vacation only 40 minutes from the Twin Cities and 45 minutes from Rochester. We are 15 minutes from North Field. The home Carleton and St. Olaf colleges. We are about 10 minutes from Cannon Falls. Red Wing is around 30 minutes away. Our winter guests enjoy skiing at Welch Village which is about 30 minutes away.

The lake is a hidden gem for sailing, fishing and boating. We have an incredible view from the cabin that overlooks 2000 acres of undeveloped boy scout property. The left side to our property is a public park with boat landing. This makes it a quiet and private lot on the lake. In the winter months, the lake is popular for ice fishing.

Public beach is located across the lake.

Relax on the deck with a book and binoculars to watch soaring eagles, woodpeckers, blue birds, Herons and White Pelicans.

Birders from all over the area come to our shore to see rare and unique migrating birds . The lake is a man made lake created by a dam. Water levels are higher in the summer and start decreasing around the time of the first freeze.

We have 2 kayaks, 1 canoe and a paddle boat for our guests. I get many pictures of our guest on the paddle boat. Many family laughs. Life jackets are included. We also have beach shoes. Our shore line is rocky. There is a bike trail that goes all around the area. It is one of the most beautiful trails in the country. You and your family can ride your bikes from Northfield all the way to Redwing.

There is an outdoor dining table with 6 chairs, 2 lounge chairs with cushions, 4 adirondak chairs and a hammock for your use. Walk down to the dock for some sunning, canoeing or fishing. Enjoy the warmth of the fire pit overlooking the lake, toast marsh mellows, tell stories and simply just relax under the stars.

The layout of the cabin is very clean and simple. 2 bedrooms, 1 full bath, laundry area, heated sun room, living room and kitchen. The yard is big enough to play football, badminton, volleyball, bean bag toss. We have all of these games available for our guests.

There is also a flower garden and herb garden for your use.

Watch the incredible sunrises with your morning cup of coffee.

Great getaway on the lake

We loved our stay here! The house is very cozy and has everything we could want. The view was amazing and the location is nice and tucked away but still 12 minutes from town. We enjoyed the kayaks, swimming, fishing and hiking. Probably the best stocked house we’ve ever rented. Highly recommend!!

Peaceful and Beautiful Slice of Heaven

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at this little slice of heaven. All the special touches and decorations in every room are so fun. Coffee in the morning on the patio sitting on the yellow glider chairs, overlooking the lake and listening to the birds was the best! We had fun playing cornhole and my husband enjoyed the kayak. The dusk to dawn lights were so cool. Great place, would definitely come back!

Perfection!

The cabin was absolute perfection; the listing pics do not do it justice! Everything you need for a comfy stay was provided. It was just beautiful, both in appearance and location! The view from the deck is amazing. Very nicely decorated, immaculate and hosts Mike and Dawn were very friendly and helpful. Even though the weather was uncooperative, we had a great time and will definitely be returning when w next in Minnesota!

Annual Family Lake Trip

This was the fourth year in a row we have stayed at the cabin. We always have a wonderful time and are always able to relax and decompress. We loved seeing (and using) the new appliances in the kitchen! Thank you Dawn and Mike for always making your cabin so homey and comfortable for our stay. We had great luck fishing this year as well which made it so fun! We always love being able to use the kayaks, the canoe and the peddle boat. The convenience of the public boat ramp next to the cabin is also always a plus! And watching the birds and squirrels eat off the feeders is a highlight for my elderly mother (and the rest of us)! We look forward to going back next year!

November Cabin Stay

We were very pleased with our stay at the cabin on Lake Byllesby! We were on the property for an extended stay over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was a beautiful, private location. There was plenty of yard space for our Great Dane, plus additional grassy area next door at the public boat launch. The cabin is about 20 minutes to Northfield, 5 minutes to Randolph and 10-15 to Cannon Falls, so there were plenty of options for grocery shopping and restaurants. The cabin had absolutely everything we needed, from linens and towels, to cleaning products, pet supplies, games and entertainment! We didn't need to bring anything with us...it was great. For those looking to work remotely, the internet connection was fabulous; we didn't have any issue with video calling or live streaming. Dawn and Mike were excellent hosts; they were very responsive when we had questions regarding the home. You can tell they take great pride in their little cabin and simply want to share its pleasures with others. We can't speak much to water activities, as it was a little chilly. However, the lake views are beautiful, kayaks readily available and fishing access very easy. We're so happy to have stayed in this cozy cabin - we did a lot of R&R.

This is the 5th year in a row we have stayed at this cabin and we LOVE IT! This place has everything you need, including amazing views of the sunrise and the lake itself. We are always able to relax and disconnect from the stresses of life here. It's almost beginning to feel like a home away from home. We are already planning our trip back again next year!

Beautiful Peaceful Getaway

It was a beautiful property with so many fun wonderful things to explore in the house. The rooms were so beautiful. We absolutely loved how stocked the house was. There were games, pens, paper, scissors, towels, washcloths and soap. They were throw blankets and plenty to stay warm at night. We were able to take long walks and see the beautiful Creek nearby the lake and all the ice houses would light up each night. Watching the sun come up from the porch window. We also got to see natural wildlife. We seen chickadees, an eagle soaring above us, deer tracks and even walked out on the ice. It was a wonderful vacation spot with plenty of space to socialize and to do a big puzzle on the kitchen table. They had tons of cooking utensils and helpful condiments if you forgot yours. I would highly recommend this property.

It was ok

I have stayed at many many many rentals but this one I would not come back too Cons- 1- the laundry room smelled awful 2- very cluttered with stuff needs less personalizing 3- doors are some what crooked 4- getting down to the dock not the best needs improvement 5- need to use boat landing for kayak 6- mosquitoes were so awful. You could not sit outside including using the fire pit 7- waterfront needs a lot of TLC. It could be something really nice to sit by and overlook the water 8- The money you spend to stay there should go back into the property then it will be a very nice place to stay PROS- 1-overlooks the water 2-The beach down the road is was very nice 3-The grocery store in Cannon Falls was priced very nicely 4- very peaceful area 5-The bedrooms were a very nice size

Gorgeous lake view!

We very much enjoyed our stay at this cozy lake house! So much attention was paid to the details of decorating, and little extras in the kitchen (spices, coffee/tea, enough pots/pans, etc). REALLY enjoyed that the AC is central air, not noisy window units. The firepit was great! Remember to bring bugspray, and you need to bring/buy your own firewood (local stores sell). Absolutely gorgeous sunrise view over the lake was such a treat to wake up to!

We enjoy the great outdoors, family, friends and our pets. We fell in love with the Cabin on Lake Byllesby, the local area and the friendly people. We live in Austin, MN. We have local contacts that help us keep our cabin beautiful.

Why they chose this property

Centrally located to casinos, culture, hiking, wine country, water-sports, antiquing, the Minneapolis / St. Paul area, Rochester, Northfield (St. Olaf & Carleton), snow-mobile trails, hiking, skiing, golfing etc.

What makes this property unique

Love the easy access to the beach and lake living. It is 3 minutes to the best of golf courses. Wine tasting is right in town. We enjoy just BBQing, making a fire and relaxing. In the mornings I love to take the dogs for a walk to the park and along the nearby hiking trails right out the door. Watching the deer, golden finches, cardinals, humming birds.....
