In the winter, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and sledding are 45+ minutes away at Mt. Hood Meadows, and 1+ hours away at Mt. Adams.
Taylor Avenue is a quiet street that borders Hood River's Jackson Park, which has tree-shaded picnic tables, a playground for children and adjacent tennis courts and pool.
Definitely plan to have breakfast at the nearby Pine Street bakery, then head on down the street for delicious organic food and deli items from the Farm Cafe. La Taqueria (3 blocks away on 13th Street) offers some of the best Mexican food and margaritas in town!
The cottage has a driveway that can easily accommodate two cars. On-street parking is also provided.
The cottage is within easy walking or biking distance of almost anything you'd need. In a pinch, Columbia Area Transit can provide dial-a-ride, door-to-door service through the Gorge.

Such a gorgeous view out the back sunroom. This is the perfect stay for a couple who wants a quiet spot that is still close to restaurants, shops, and wine bars! Would absolutely stay here again!
Wonderful, cozy cottage. Had everything we needed and was conveniently located to downtown. Nice neighborhood. Leigh was very responsive with any questions we had. Loved the place and will definitely be back. David & Lynda

Cozy, quaint home-perfect escape!
This cute bungalow provided charm and relaxed comfort for a perfect weekend get-away! We appreciated the architectural design and history of the home! The location up the hill from downtown gave it a bit slower pace amidst a few quaint establishments such as Marley's Pub and The Pine Street Bakery. Thank you for a nostalgic, restful stay!

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. Please come again!
We loved this little 95 year old house. It had wonderful period details, a lovely big backyard with a beautiful view of Mt. Adams. The kitchen was well stocked and the house was very comfortable with a great location in a quiet neighborhood. We would like to stay there again in the future.

Thank you, Gayl. We would love to host you again! However, the City of Hood River has outlawed free-standing short term rentals, as of this month. We will still be renting out our cottage, but only on a 30-day basis. This is sad news for us, as we have loved our 9+ years of being an AIRBNB Superhost. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best to you, Leigh
A lovely flow of days at this sweet cottage. A bakery, a brewery, a baseball diamond all nearby. We had fun daydreaming what we would do with paint & tile to make it even sweeter.

Hood River Charmer
Loved our little house in Hood River. It had so much charm. It was the perfect size. It had a great view of Mt Adams and was walking distance to an amazing bakery and restaurant (Pine Street Bakery & Pine Street Restaurant). Loved the town and loved our little house. Would highly recommend this place for a couple or small family.

We wanted to stay somewhere that was quiet on the 4th of July. This cottage fit the bill perfectly. Normally get a nice view of the mountain- wildfires put smoke in the way, but we could see it was there. Nice yard.

Cozy and Relaxing Cottage
We had a wonderful stay in Hood River at the mountain view cottage! There we spectacular views of Mt Adams off the back sun room and yard. The yard was perfect for our dog to play ball and tire him out. Leigh was very understanding and flexible when we asked to extend our stay and extra night. We appreciate her accommodating us!! We can't wait for our next visit to Hood River and the Mt View Cottage.

We look forward to hosting you again, Kathy. Autumn in the Gorge is an amazing time: warm days, cool night and beautiful fall colors!
The property and the house are adorable. There are flowers blooming everywhere and there is a gorgeous view of the mountain from the cutest little enclosed sun porch. Its an easy walk to several little cafes and restaurants. The couch and bed were super comfy. It had everything we needed to rest comfortably and get ready for a wedding we were attending over the weekend. Also an easy drive to several wildflower hikes. We would love to come back in the future for more hiking and exploring and next time bring our kids.

Beautiful Little Place with Amazing View
My husband and I stayed at the Mountain View Cottage with our teenaged daughter and two dogs. The house was lovely, with everything we needed for a great stay! All of us agreed that the beds were amazingly comfortable - a huge plus compared to some vacation rentals we've stayed at. It was nice to have a back yard, as well as having the park so close by. While you are in a little neighborhood, you are a block from small markets and restaurants, and downtown Hood River is definitely in walking distance. Leigh was super helpful and prompt with all communications. We would most certainly stay here again.
The place was very nice but it was 100 degrees outside and their air conditioner was not up to the job. It was a sweat box in there

We're very sorry, Robin. It's unusual for us to have such extended heatwave. I wish we had known as we could have brought another unit over. Thanks for the heads up.

Great little cottage
The cottage was cute and just right for 2 people. It was not rustic by any means. The place was clean, the queen bed was comfortable, the living room was cozy and the kitchen was fully stocked.....it could just use a microwave. The cottage had clean sheets and towels too. It included all paper goods such as toilet paper and paper towels. The washer dryer in the basement was very handy after a day of hiking and mountain biking. The location is great, walking distance to basic restaurants and close to the Main Street Leigh was very friendly, helpful and was quick to respond to emails.

Thanks, Cindy. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Please come again!
small, older home, charming; kitchen outstanding; very quiet neighborhood (nothing going on in immediate area); neighbors very pleasant and friendly; laundry in basement a problem, stairs a bit treacherous and handrail had spiderwebs; the dryer was packed with towels and linens, and there was a note that said something about the next person was responsible for that stuff - i took some towels out to bring upstairs and a bug bit me - so i suspect they had been there in the dryer for many turnovers.

Hi Karen
We're sorry you were dissatisfied with the washer and dryer in the basement--an amenity we provide to our guests. The steps to the basement are concrete with a sturdy railing; I will remind our housekeepers to be sure and clean the railing of spider webs.
The housecleaners do sometimes leave the last load of linens in the dryer, especially if the time between guests is short. In the summer we never have more than a day between guests, so the laundry could not have been in the dryer more than 24 hours.
This is a really cute little cottage located in a good part of Hood River. Check-in was very simple. We enjoyed our stay. After check out, I sent a thank you text to the owner telling her what we enjoyed about her property. I also added a couple of suggestions to make it even nicer. I prefaced this by saying sometimes you don't notice things because you see them so often and sometimes a fresh set of eyes may notice things. For instance, there were cobwebs in the windows, some of the woven window coverings were shredded, the woodwork could use a new paint job as it is very chipped up. I reiterated to her that we very much enjoyed our stay and that I was not pointing these things out with intention of offending her. I also sent pictures. She did not even respond so I'm going to assume she was offended. If they would do the small things I would give this place 10 stars. Very poor communication after I took the time to tell her our honest opinion.
My wife loved the charm of this small little cottage!!! I've been told that this will be the place we stay from now on. Great location and has everything you would need for your stay.
The property is perfect for a couple. We trading off making breakfast at "home" with breakfast sandwiches at the Pine Street Cafe. There are plenty of places to eat (and drink) within walking distance. We also enjoyed an evening drink at the peaceful backyard table with the view of Mt. Adams.
This is the place we've been looking today in Hood River. The house was charming, true to the period in which it was built and everything is better with a mountain view. We'd love to stay again.
Perfect house for couples. Great location on quiet street so you can walk to several wonderful restaurants and markets. The owners are very responsive and helpful with any questions. Will definitely be back!
The Mountain View Cottage has a fabulous view of Mt. Adams on a clear day and is just blocks from parks, trails, great bakery, shops. It is cozy and warm and a bit funky in a good way. Perfect spot for exploring Hood River and Columbia Gorge.
Arrived late afternoon on a rainy day so it wasn’t until the next day when the sun came out and the clouds lifted that I realized what an amazing view of Mt Hood this house has! Charming house that retains a lot of character but has nice updates. Location is awesome and close to many local gems away from more crowded areas but still easy access anywhere.

Older home in a nice neighborhood near a park for the dog. House was well equipped. A bit worn but expected for an older home. Area was quiet. Heater worked well.

About the host
Hosted by Leigh Hancock
Leigh and Bengt have lived, worked and played in the Columbia Gorge since the early 1990s. They were joined in 2001 by their son Finn and in 2007 by their border collie Pippin. Bengt is a hydrologist, Leigh is a writer and college instructor, and Finn is now a sophomore at college. They all four enjoy camping, hiking, mountain biking and sports.
Why they chose this property
The Mountain View Cottage is a sweet, light-filled 1925 cottage with a great yard and beautiful views of Mt. Adams. In the right season, feel free to pick cherries, peaches or pears on the property; in all seasons, the best bakery in town is just two blocks away. We love our cottage and hope you will too.
What makes this property unique
We fell in love with the cottage the first time we saw it because of its 1920s charm. We love how every room is filled with light and all the little details that make it cozy and welcoming. The Mt. Adams view out the back windows is spectacular and the deep back yard lends itself to lazy afternoons and bar-b-ques.
