This unique and luxurious house, is located next to the Marston Hills Canyon, in Hillcrest, a couple of blocks from University Avenue, within walking distance to some of San Diego’s finest restaurants, bars, shops, the Zoo, Balboa Park, Museums, Theatres, Balboa Golf Course and many other attractions.

Within a five minute drive you can be in downtown San Diego, the airport, Seaport Village, Petco Park (home of Padres baseball team), the Convention Center, Little Italy, Embarcadero, Fashion Valley mall, North Park, the Chargers' Qualcomm Stadium, historic Old Town, the Marina, many of the best restaurants, nightclubs, bars and much more. You can also enjoy Ocean beach, Liberty Station, San Diego's best breweries, Point Loma, Pacific Beach and Sea World, which are only ten minutes away.

An amazing diversity of restaurants and cuisines are available within walking distance of the area. You can enjoy Japanese, Mexican, American, Thai, Indian, Persian, Greek, Steakhouse, Vietnamese, Chinese, Brazilian, and more. Should you choose to stay in, for a relaxing night of grilling or cooking at home, you will find a Ralphs, Whole Foods and Trader Joes within a couple of blocks. The house is situated on a cul-de-sac end-street, peaceful and quiet next to the canyon, but also close to everything. The property was recently fully renovated, and The City of San Diego and Town Council honored the property with the LION award of the year for enhancing the appearance of the City.

Parking in San Diego can be very complicated. San Diego Villa includes one gated off street parking spot for you. It can accommodate even the biggest SUV.

In SD Villa, you will be able to enjoy the best and most luxurious amenities like a King-size bed, Egyptian cotton sheets, and more. The large walking closet can accommodate all of your clothes, without cramping, as well as your shoes, your souvenirs and shopping bags. The living room is incredible comfortable and spacious; Have breakfast in the granite peninsula and prepare a romantic dinner in the beautiful dining table. You can also use it as an spacious desk where you can connect your devices to the home Wi-Fi network, check email, plan your trip and work from your vacation home. Crossing just outside of the beautiful door, you will find your own outdoor area with a grill, dining table, a beautiful work bench to sit and relax while having a glass of wine, and more outdoor amenities always usable in sunny San Diego. Cute bungalow in a great neighborhood

Check-in was easy, the property was clean, comfortable, and a there was cute little courtyard to sit in the nice weather and listen to the birds. The neighborhood is walkable annd near great food spots. All in all an excellent experience and would book again.

Great spot for a romantic getaway

Great area

Had a wonderful stay. The location is close enough to Balboa Park to walk, and some great restaurants nearby also in walking distance. I came to visit daughter and nephews. Had a nice BBQ. Lights on patio weren’t working. Messaged Ricardo and even though it was a holiday he had a repairman out to fix that day! Very responsive. Very clean and I was comfortable.

Sweet little cottage in Hillcrest

This little cottage is beautiful, well stocked, and convenient to restaurants in Hillcrest! Walkable with ease. Close to Balboa park! I loved it and will be back!

San Diego Refuge

The Zen Villa was the perfect home base during our visit to San Diego! The neighborhood is quiet and lovely. The property itself is secluded, calming and relaxing. Our host Ricardo was always reaching out to make sure we were happy. We hope to stay here again the next time we come to visit my son and his girlfriend.

Relaxing weekend

Enjoyed staying at this property. Gated parking and front area made for extra sense of security. Would have enjoyed using hot tub after 10pm, but over a very pleasant experience and a great place to recharge.

Zen Getaway in Prime Location

This property was absolutely perfect. Comfy bed, private parking, wonderful outdoor space that is totally private with a relaxing hot tub. Had a little trouble with the bedroom tv, Ricardo had IT there installing new tvs immediately. I highly recommend staying here. The location is perfect, close to everything. I look forward to staying here again. Pet friendly, my grand dog stayed with me, and he highly recommends the outdoor space.

(Wishing I could give it 4.5) I agree with all the glowing reviews: great location, nice (small) house that is very private. Ricardo was in contact with me right before the stay, making sure I had all the info and directions, during the stay to make sure I'd gotten in, and at the end. He also sent a long list of restaurants, etc. All supplies are there: it's so rare to find plenty of soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and dishwashing detergent present in the unit. If they give you anything, it's a courtesy amount to cover you till you get to the store. Here's why I didn't give it 5 stars: 1) The cleaners use a strongly perfumed cleaner that has a lingering smell. Fabuloso. I could still smell it after several days and after having the house open regularly. This is an easy fix! 2) There's no blender (minor, but I do like my smoothie in the morning). 3) If there is more than one person, there is an extra charge. Although that makes sense, it was just less than $30/day, so the price was really a lot higher than expected. My bad: I didn't pay attention when I paid the bill. Nevertheless, I think there should be more explicit communication about that extra charge.

We had a wonderful time at this property! The host, Ricardo was so helpful. Everything was exactly as described (and even better in person). The place was clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location was perfect—close to a lot of nice places in the Hillcrest area. Communication with Ricardo was smooth and easy. They were responsive, kind, and made check-in/check-out super convenient.We’d absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a great [weekend getaway/family vacation/work trip/etc.]!

Nice small house in great location!

My wife and I, and our West Highland Terrier, spent a week here and really enjoyed it. It's small but had everything we needed and was well stocked (e.g., plenty of hangers, towels, coffee pods, etc.). It was also very clean. The bedroom is a little tight with the comfy king bed in there, and the bathroom is a bit tight if you are trying to get past someone at the sink to go to the closet (but there's another entry into the bathroom to mitigate this issue). Everything worked well (except a couple of burned out lightbulbs, and we didn't try the outside washer and dryer). The house is in a great close-in neighborhood. I presume property crime can be an issue in town, but the house was surrounded by a high fence with a locking gate and felt secure. Our car was within this fence, which is a bonus since street parking can be a challenge in Hillcrest. The driveway did in fact fit a large SUV, but getting in and out of the driveway from the alley often required a three-point turn. We loved the location as it was steps from trails into Balboa Park, and no more than a ten minute walk to most restaurants, shopping, and the farmers market on University. Access to freeways was also very convenient in this location, and the neighborhood was surprisingly quiet at night. We will definitely consider this property next time we come to San Diego.

Conveniently Located and Nice

The place is nice and has many of the necessary items if you plan to spend time with simple meals and relaxing on the front porch. With a short walk you can access multiple bus lines that traverse and connect much of the city. We rarely drove or spent money on ride share.

Small dirty Property with rude property manager

The pictures make this place look way better than it is. First off I had an issue getting into the property as the property manager Ricardo sent a list of rules without the lock box code. When I called him he was extremely rude, “don’t you read” “are you going to let me finish talking”. I’ve never been treated that way by a representative of a rental. When I finally got him to understand the code wasn’t on the pdf he sent me he gave me the code with an apology. Such a condescending man. The reason I chose this property was for the hot tub. When I open the lid I notice the water is about 8 inches low now even covering the top jets. I get into the house and it is very small and has the feel of a cheap motel with dirty walls and yellow lights. I would not recommend this place. I paid a lot for it for two night and didn’t deserve to be treated like I was nor was worth any of the money. I spent.

Great vibes, great atmosphere and great location

This home met all our expectations. It was within walking distance to the Zoo, Balboa Park and restaurants. Arrivederci, recommended by Ricardo was a favorite restaurant that became family and community.The home was comfortable for us in a very quiet neighborhood. There are even trails down the street to go the the Park and Zoo. Ricardo was receptive to any of our needs and met all our expectations. He made our stay easy and comfortable.

Business Trip

Everything is as listed, perfect for me and my wife. I had meetings all day and my wife wpuld be alone. She felt completely safe at all times. The private hut tub is absolutely spotless. Only feedback woud be to adjust the shower valve to allow for a hotter shower. Shower was just warm but sinks had very hot water. Overall very convenient to Everything but tucked away and very quite neighborhood. We loved it and will be back

Anniversary getaway

Loved this villa. It had everything we needed and the location was absolutely perfect. The only thing we'd say probably needed updating (for us) would be the mattress. Will definitely be revisiting on our next trip!

Perfect Rental, Amenities, and Location

Zen Villa is a perfect private home with an ideal layout, wonderful kitchen, nice furniture, very comfortable bed, private patio and very nice hot tub. Having the parking spot inside the home's gate was both extremely convenient and secure. We very pleased with location due to the walkable proximity of Balboa Park and so many restaurants, coffee shops, bars, ice cream shops, grocery store, etc. In addition, we felt safe in the neighborhood, and enjoyed chatting with others we met on our walks Lastly, many thanks to our host, Ricardo, who provided detailed information, answered any questions quickly, and clearly wanted to ensure that we enjoyed our stay.

Cozy and comfortable

We went for a short trip with family and pets. The stay was really cozy and comfortable. The location was so convenient 5 min from zoo, 30 min from safari, 15 min from beaches and the downtown is just a few minutes of walk. Everything was clean and all amenities were functional. The host was quick to response to any queries. Overall a great stay and will definitely recommend.

Hillcrest Jewel Box

My fiancé and I stayed here on Sept 12th -15th. The neighborhood is a real gem. The home is within walking distance to University Ave. where there is a wealth of restraunts, bars and cafes. Just walking through the neighborhood was a pleasant experience with perfect weather and beautifully manicured properties of many varied architectural styles. The home itself has its own private parking area for your car which we really appreciated. The outdoor courtyard is peaceful and the hot tub has a privacy screen making the outdoor area very enjoyable. I would definitely stay here again and Ricardo the host was very easy to communicate with. Kevin

One word - FANTASTIC

My husband and I have stayed in several places in San Diego and this one, hands down, is the best. From the front courtyard, which allowed plenty of room for us to safely and securely store/charge our e-bikes, to the well laid out interior, to the gated parking area in the back, this place was ideal. The host was friendly, communicative and always quick to answer any questions that came up. It was great for our dogs, a perfect dog walking neighborhood and central to everything we love about San Diego, Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, and Hillcrest. The next time we need a rental in San Diego, this will be the one we get!

Great little house

So well located. Great place to walk to great restaurants and Balboa Park. Our host, Ricardo, was so helpful and very responsive. The house itself was well appointed and had everything we needed. We did bring our electric car and Ricardo supplied a level one charger. It certainly is not fast, but was helpful. There is a great Electrify America station not far away for Ultrafast charging. The only things I would bring up for consideration are: 1) They do charge an "extra person" charge which was not something we had ever run into in any other VRBO home. Ricardo was great working with us on this. 2) The bathroom is "cozy" and a bit uncomfortable for 2 people. Just need to plan around that. 3) The toiletries supplied are not great quality. We had brought our own shampoo and conditioner, but the soap supplied was not good, so we went out and bought our own. If this is something you are particular about, just be aware. Overall, this was a very comfortable house for our 4 days stay.
