The Charter House formally known as The Charter Room. A 3 bedroom house for rent

Cozy three bedroom house. This use to be an apartment is attached to our family home in Ocracoke, but we have moved out and opened the entire house. The part designed as a mother-in-law suite has a queen size bed(sheets are not provided) and a roll out single cot. Cable TV 32 inch flat screen and wireless internet in the master suite. Small eating table in the front room and a full bathroom with a large outdoor shower. You even have your own deck. The main part of the house is accessible through the laundry room. The main part of the house has an open floor plan and two bedrooms and a bathroom. Pets are allowed for an additional $50. If you want to do early check in there is an additional $45 fee. It is extra added stress for our cleaners to have everything ready for those that get here on an early ferry. Normal check in time is 3:30 pm and check out time is 11:00. If you want to check out late it is a $100 fee.

We do NOT post on Craigslist, so if you see it there, it is not us renting it. We only go through VRBO/Home Away.

We do not offer refunds for weather related cancellations, ferry issues, or illness. We highly recommend that you purchase optional travel insurance.

The Charter Housr

Ellen and Russel are amazingly kind and courteous hosts. Super responsive to messages and are willing to help however you need. We were able to rent a golf cart (for a great price!) through their company Buccaneer Rentals, of which two of the carts were on the premises—made rental very easy! Overall, we highly recommend.

Island get away

Cute place. Cozy calm and quite my fav things on a vacation. They bathroom is big and nice and the outside shower is great .. it’s big and completely private. We enjoyed it very much.

Fantastic location and stay

Ellen and Russ met us when we arrived and made sure we could access the rental. And we were warmly greeted by their dog, noodles. Ellen made us feel like long lost neighbors that were reunited. It made for a wonderful weekend. The rental has alit of charm and comfort.

Great for one or two people and a small child. Had everything I needed, plus. Very comfortable bedroom. New AC worked great. The owners were very responsive. And they have golf carts on site for rent. I would gladly rent at this property again.

Good for couples

This place is nestled in the heart of Ocracoke as walking distance from the marina and the main strip. The owners are pretty responsive even through the late hours and last minute inquiries. A little about this property, it is between two shops and is attached to an existing house. From the looks of it, it was part of the house which was later converted to a rental space and this is immediately visible. Advertised for 3, but I say that is pushing it, a couple might enjoy and have ample room, but anything more than that is a crowd. Upon walking in, you'd noticed that once a front porch was converted to a living room or something similar (this seem to be an afterthought), divided by an accordion door to the bedroom with a comfortable bed. Keep walking and you'd reach the small kitchen (3ft from the bedroom) to the left that's suitable for 1 person and has microwave and stove, then followed by a locked door which could be the entrance to the main house and across from it is the bathroom. I can't express enough that this is a small rental. Watch out for the TV with an unsecured stand as it may get tip over and you'd be responsible. Watch out for the bed frame as you walked pass as you'd likely hit the wooden corner piece and you'd be in pain for a while. Key left in the house didn't work so I had to call the owner to get the code to the door, should have been given the first time around. The phone number of one of the owners published on this site is incorrect (to the owner, please verify this). My overall thought, this is decent for a quick getaway for a couple that don't mind the limited interior space. Kudos to the owners for being flexible on my request and the response times.

Wonderful stay

First off, house was huge which was a big plus. Check in was easy and the owners had golf carts for us to rent which made things a breeze. No complaints at all! Will definitely rent here again. Thanks for a great stay

Nice little beach cottage

This property had almost everything you need. We were traveling from Oregon so we’re a little unhappy we had to buy sheets, towels just for a two night stay. This has always been provided in any short term rental we have booked, it should be required. Great location and parking. Very close to everything.

Quick Getaway

We booked this property for a quick trip and had a great time. The property is easy to access and has an outdoor shower that was perfect for us coming off the beach. The property managers were very helpful. We saved money renting a golf cart on-site and used a ratchet strap from our truck to secure our car seat for our three-year old. We’d recommend this property and would stay here again.

Charter Room Cornelius Stay

Charter Room was adequately spacious for two people. The shower stall was very nice. There was plenty of silverware and dinnerware in the kitchen. We really liked the back deck for hanging wet clothes and rinsing. We really enjoyed the stay!

Been off and on Ocracoke since I was a child. Growing up there in the summers. Have many friends there and spend as much time as I can on the island. I live in a small farming community and am also a farmer. Would like to retire to Ocracoke someday...that story was written a few years back. When Covid hit we moved to Ocracoke and lived here. It has been a wonderful experience. Our son graduated from Ocracoke School and we have loved living on the island full time. But we are now working on the retired portion of our life and decided that traveling would be a fun thing to do. So, you may or may not see us on Ocracoke!

What makes this property unique

We tried to make it similar to a nice hotel room to be familiar to everyone. Now the Charter Room, is open as a 3 bedroom house. This place is close to everything. If you like visiting Ocracoke you know about the local restaurants and bars. Golf carts are popular and for rent everywhere, even on site. Biking, clamming, shelling and fishing are just a few activities to do in Ocracoke.
