Climate and Weather Information:
Durango sits at 6512 feet above sea level and enjoys an ideal four-season climate with moderate temperatures year-round. Durango winters are usually mild and sunny with temperatures staying between 10 and 50 degrees. Despite Durango's snowfall averages about 71' each year, snow removal is manageable because Durango is sited in a low, sun-drenched valley. Spring brings warmer weather and rain (annual precipitation of 19' per year). Summer temperatures seldom climb more than the high 80s and rivers and reservoirs stay relatively full in summer, filled by melting snow from deep winter snows in the San Juan Mountains. Fall days are comfortably cool and dry, the perfect time for a mountain hike or a drive on one of the area’s Scenic Byways.
Purgatory Mountain Ski Resort has four different terrain parks for everyone from the new boarder to the most advanced
• The Paradise Freestyle Arena will cure all of your rail-riding, big-air ills.
• The Pitchfork Terrain Garden is home to a 300 foot Half Pipe, plenty of rails, bumps, and a medium sized jump at the bottom for some serious air.
• Divine Comedy is located just above the base of the high speed 6-pack chairlift. It’s the perfect place for the experienced terrain park enthusiast.
• Angel's Tread is the newest terrain park complete with two 8 ft. flat boxes. At the Heart of Purgatory Mountain Resort Purgatory Village offers just about everything you'll need on your visit. Take in the majestic views of the San Juan Mountains while perusing a variety of shops and restaurants, and of course skiing or riding the beautiful mountain. The Village is the center of your vacation, where you can relax in a beach chair in front of Purgy's or watch the evening alpenglow over the Needles Peaks. [ Durango Winter Planning Guide ]
Interesting Fact Purgatory Mountain came into its modern day name in 1776 when several Spanish explorers were traveling on a nearby river. Some of their party got lost, and their bodies were never found. The other travelers believed the souls of the lost men would be relegated to Purgatory, and from this legend was born the designation, Purgatory Mountain, which originally opened as Purgatory Resort in 1965 and now operates as the year-round Durango Mountain Resort. Following this legendary expedition, the river was named “El Rio de las Animas Perdidas” or the River of Lost Souls (now the Animas River.)

Great place to stay in Durango. Close to everything. Just right outside Durango. Easy access to Purgatory. Grocery store, gas station and hardware store all within a mile.
We went to celebrate my twins for graduating and we had a super nice long weekend. We played during the day and relaxed at night in a beautiful home! Thank you for making it feel like we were at home.
Absolutely beautiful home! Would definitely book again. Our stay coincided with historic flooding in the area. The homeowner was very helpful with our questions and ensuring we felt safe. Kids loved the trampoline and adults enjoyed coffee and a view on the front porch! Fall colors were so pretty! Beds were very comfy. Easy access to downtown Durango and surrounding activities.
This property was simply amazing. The house itself has everything you could possibly want. The outdoor area though is simply spectacular. I was so glad I didn’t overbook our activities while we were there because my kids just wanted to play outside. It was very relaxing for everyone and we will definitely Request to book again.
We have been to Durango many times and have always wanted to stay at this property because of all the fun things they have for the kids. We decided to splurge this year and my kids had a blast. The host was very responsive when we messaged him/her with questions. We had an amazing time in this beautiful home!

We would have liked to have had any communication with you during your stay?. We reached out to you twice to see if you arrived and if the house needed anything for your stay, with no response from you. We understand that the new “ Jenn Aire, high end induction stove top” may be new to understand and that is why we leave specific instructions, it is also considered to be the best source of cooking heat. We supply a numerous amount of “Le Creuset” high end iron cookware that works along with it We also had soaps and shampoo under the sinks in each bathroom. It seems like simple communication may have made your stay more pleasant. Please see the other numerous reviews that compliment the kitchen.
Everything about this house was awesome. Form the cleanliness to the the localization of where it was. Far enough away from town and close enough to everything we needed. Great stay. Really enjoyed it.
The house was exquisite - just as described, perfect location, amenities to spare. Everything was perfect upon arrival and Jason was very helpful throughout our stay. My family and I stayed at the property for 3 days and everything from check in to check out was easy and wonderful. The pictures do not do this property justice. The waterscape alone was amazing. We would sit down by the swimming pond or on the balcony listening to the water, watching the sun rise, and having a great time making memories. There was plenty to do on the property- to keep my kiddos busy for hours! Couldn't recommend this place more!
This is one of the best properties I've ever stayed at. The hospitality was second to none. From a warm welcome message and gifts from local shops, to an abundance of golf balls, to serene surroundings, Jason and Cissielya's property had it all. 5/5 would recommend, worth every penny. The theater was awesome, hot tub was great, and even the non-golfers enjoyed hitting golf balls. We kayaked and swam in the pond, had fires by the water, and had a great time enjoying conversations at the many seating areas both indoors and outdoors around the property. This location being a great middle ground between Silverton and Durango made it convenient to get to Ice Lake to hike, but also head down town to Ore house for an incredible steak dinner.
Great house beautiful location!!!! The train does come by 3 times staring earlier in the morning and 3 times in the afternoon evening and does a loud whistle. The train was cool but jarring
at first. You can literally stay at the house for multiple days and have plenty to do and a lovely time. The hosts were very accommodating as well.
We had 4 generations for this trip and the home was perfect for all. The views are unbelievable. The home is very comfortable and has lots to do. I even went swimming with my great granddaughter in the pond and I'm nearly 82 years old. There is a trampoline. lots of movies and a projection tv. We had a family movie every night. The kitchen is very well stocked. I highly recommend this home and we will be returning next year!
Do you like things that are awesome?!?! Yeah, me too! Property and the grounds are top notch, and the owners were super easy to work with/communicate with during the vacation. Having the iconic Durango to Silverton train roll by several times a day with a front row seat was super cool when we weren’t hitting golf balls across the pond. Memories made, three thumbs up (it’s a long story).
Our family had a week of fun and relaxation at the property. Our son couldn’t get enough of the trampoline and swimming in the pond! The location was great being just outside of Durango and worked very well as a launching point for day trips to Pagosa Springs, Telluride and Ouray! We had a great time and hope to be back!
We really enjoyed our stay! The only reason for 4 stars is that we felt the listening (specifically pictures) made it seem like it was a little more remote. It was very close to the main rd in Durango. This did make it convenient for getting into town and it was fun to watch the trains go by.
Also - the lower level (where two of the bedrooms are) had no AC. This ended up being ok for us since the weather was mild, but it did get hot down there during the heat of the day.
The kids LOVED the beach and the trampoline. And the view was stunning. Overall a great stay!
Beautiful property and amazing home for entertaining
Hosts responded quickly to all questions and requests. We had 5 adults and 2 children under 3 so needed to bring our own pack and plays and other toddler/baby gear. Home has great porch we sat on to wave to the passenger train as if came by several times a day. Kitchen has all new top line Jenn Aire appliances. There were directions for using the induction cooktop which was helpful. Lots of condiments and kitchen staples are provided so check the cabinets and frig. before you go shopping. The bar area has 2 beverage refrigerators and an ice maker which was well used during our trip. We used the Apple TV for all our favorite Disney movies on the projector to keep the little ones happy. Did not try out the gaming system but seems like it would be a hit The trampoline was a favorite spot for our 3 year old as was the sandy beach. The adults enjoyed the hot tub, beach, and the tee boxes and putting green. The views to the mountains are spectacular from any room on the main level. Family from Durango stopped by to visit and commented on the beauty of the home and grounds. It is a luxury property in a great location. P.S. Be sure to get a white pizza from the Schoolhouse and stop for some liquid refreshment at The Nugget( both are just a few miles north on 550 towards Purgatory). Downtown Durango has some great restaurants as well!
Our family enjoyed this beautiful property, which has amazing landscaping and a well-stocked house with everything you need to relax and entertain. Great communication with the owners. We would definitely visit again!
Property was both stunningly beautiful and exceptionally functional. We had a multi-family Vacation, and this place provided lovely amenities. From the trampoline, to the hot-tub, to the beach, and the decks; we couldn't have asked for more. Plenty of space to gather together, or retreat for some solo R&R. Not far from town for a good brunch, and a gourmet market with everything we needed within 5 minutes. Hosts we're wonderful, and checked in to ensure we arrived safely, and to see if we needed anything. Stairs throughout the property, so if you travel with infants, you may want to bring a baby gate- they may have had one but we didn't check. 10/10 would return, and the personal family touches throughout the home made it feel like you knew them personally.
Would highly recommend staying here! Amazing views and stunning home! Kids loved the trampoline, beach, and exploring around the outdoors. Bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and clean. Kitchen is beautifully designed and updated and has all you need. We all enjoyed the movie room! Great location just a short drive from downtown Durango. Hosts are very welcoming and responsive. Would absolutely recommend this home!
Really enjoyed our stay. Felt right at home. Trampoline is broken and could not enjoy golf features due to no balls or clubs.

Glad you had a good time. Please come and visit us in the summer months, that is when the trampoline and golf coarse are open. As we stated in the house instructions that we sent out, those items are seasonal. We are glad you felt at home.
Our family of 4 spent a relaxing vacation in this beautiful home. It was very spacious, had every amenity we needed, was clean and comfortable. The views from the kitchen window are amazing and is in a great location. We would love to stay here again when it’s warmer so we can enjoy the private beach and putting green.
