We had a lovely 2-week stay in Dar Sghira as a family of four. The house was well-equipped with sufficient linens, towels, and kitchen supplies, plus lots of guide books and maps to review. Our young sons especially enjoyed the experience of staying in such a unique, historic house. The mini-splits in the bedrooms kept us all comfortable during the chilly January nights. The weather was a bit too cool and rainy to take full advantage of the private rooftop terrace, but it seems like a great, bonus living space during in other seasons. Laurent was a great communicator and made sure we felt welcome throughout our stay. The home's location is convenient for exploring the Medina, though be prepared to wander and get lost as it’s part of the fun!

Great Riad in Medina

We enjoyed our few nights in this Riad. Ousted was very helpful with our stay. He organized porters, a tour and breakfasts and was very responsive to our questions. We were comfortable during our stay. The 3rd bedroom is creative.The laundry and the rooftop patio were a bonus. Wifi is limited to main floor but still good. Would stay again!

We loved the house and the location in the heart of the medina. The weather was a little cooler than we expected, and we all caught colds, but having Fatima, the wonderful chef, bring us warm dinners and breakfasts when asked was so nice. Heat in the individual rooms was fine, but we weren't quite prepared to spend a lot of time in the central area. Overall, the house was beautiful and clean, Oustad helped us get in and out of Fez whenever asked, Fatima was great, being in the medina rather than a tourist area was perfect, and we'd come back in a minute

Great spot!

A great spot in an amazing city. The apartment is apparently at least 300 years old, and has a huge amount of character. And an amazing view from a terrace. It's an incredible spot. As with anything in Fez, there are stairs. Also the Medina does not allow cars, and the apartment is near the heart of Medina, so it does involve considerable walking to get there. But the host Oustad will meet you at the parking lot outside the Medina gates with a cart for your luggage, and show you all the ropes. Fatima also made some amazing local meals for us, she was a great cook. All in all a 5 star experience!

Adventure in Fes

Our stay in Fes was brief, too brief, but it was the highlight of our trip across southern Spain to Morocco and then France. The Dar Sghira house proved to be the perfect place for us to unwind from the excitement and fatigue of travel and of exploring the medina. We were very comfortable there. I especially enjoyed the view from the rooftop patio. Our guide Mohamed shepherded us around the city and to several artisanal cooperatives to see artists at work with textiles, leather, fragrances, ceramics, etc. He was an excellent companion and gave us a wealth of information, matching the level of our interest in history. We got a keen sense of the medina as a living community, not just a museum, even though it has such a storied past. We chose to have multiple meals prepared by Fatima to eat in the home, and we took a cooking class with her, which was enjoyable (and rewarding!). She also helped us with the arrangements for the hammam. We were grateful for all she did.

Immersion dans la médina

Je cherchais quelque chose d 'authentique et nous avons été servis. Le riad est restauré avec gout, on s'y sent bien. Il est calme et frais. La vue sur la terrasse est superbe. On y sent le coeur de la ville. Oustad a repondu à nos demandes : taxis, porteurs. Tout le monde était la à l heure dite, avec le sourire, au tarif prévu et sans "embrouilles". Fatima cuisine super bien. Couscous et tajine copieux : un des meilleurs souvenir pour mes enfants. Petits déjeuners complets à la marocaine qui vous nourrissent jusqu'au soir! Personne discrète et très agréable. Bref, que de bons souvenirs.

Le Dar Sghira est une très belle maison , marocaine, propre. Elle est très bien situé au coeur de la médina. Très bons services proposés. Nous avons été très bien accueilli par Oustad, il est disponible et répond rapidement à nos demandes, merci à lui. Nous avons passé une agréable semaine à Fès, nous y reviendrons.

Sehr authentisches, etwas märchenhaftes Riad inmitten der Medina von Fes

Das Riad ist etwas verwinkelt mit engen Treppen und kleinen Räumen, die dem Haus einen einzigartigen Charakter verleihen. Die zwei Bäder sind sehr klein (Waschbecken und Toilette sind, wie teilweise auf Schiffen, in die Duschkabine integriert). Es hat eine Dachterrasse mit Blick über Fes. Aufgrund der Lage mitten in der Medina braucht man einen guten Orientierungsinn, um das Haus (wieder-) zu finden. Die Souks schliessen in Fes recht früh und die Medina ist abends recht ausgestorben außer mit äußerst penetranten Jungs, die einen den (falschen) Weg weisen möchten.

Nous tenons à remercier Mohammed pour son accueil sympathique et instructif ainsi que sa disponibilité durant notre séjour. Nous remercions également Fatima qui nous a si bien nourri matin et soir. Elle est non seulement une excellente cuisinière mais aussi une personne très attachante. Quant à la Dar Sghira, c'est une maison très agréable où tout est prévu pour les hôtes (même la balance pour peser les valises bien chargées d'artisanat fassi lorsqu'on repart). Ce logement est vraiment parfait pour déambuler dans tous les quartiers de Fes et en visiter toutes les splendeurs. La terrasse sur toit et la vue sont très jolies.

Casa cómoda, con todos los servicios disponibles: internet, TV satelite, cocina completa, camas muy confortables etc. Mohamend muy amable y servicial y Fátima una gran cocinera, especialmente recomendables sus desayunos. El único problema, por lo que no le damos un cinco, es porque la única ventilación grande de la casa entra por la claraboya del techo y no se podía abrir por algún problema, supongo que temporal, lo que hacía que la casa tuviese poca ventilación.

Karakteristiek maar oncomfortabel

Koud, smerig en donker huis. Harde bedden, een klein dakterras waar de vele zwerfkatten hun behoefte doen, lichtknoppen zwart van de viezigheid, plakkerige deurklinken, dikke lagen stof overal, kapotte pannen, stinkende toiletten. Onze contactpersonen aldaar waren Fatima en Mohamed. De maaltijden van Fatima werden ons warm aanbevolen door verhuurster. Maar voor hetzelfde geld aten wij vele malen beter in een nabij gelegen Riad (Dar Bensouda: voortreffelijk!) Mohamed bleek een gesjeesde zakenman. Rekent hoge tarieven voor de transfer en rondleidingen. Autoritair naar zijn medewerkers, zoals de chauffeur die ons van het vliegveld op kwam halen. Een vriendelijke jongen van rond de 20 jaar die flink op zijn nummer werd gezet door Mohamed toen hij op ons verzoek uitgebreid over zijn studie vertelde. Ongemakkelijke situatie. Slechte service, slechte woning, wat een afknapper. Beslist geen aanrader!

Beautiful Home in Fes

Dar Sghira is a lovely house with lots of character and charm! It was comfortable and clean, and we loved all of the gorgeous decor. The rooftop terrace was lovely as well! We had Fátima prepare breakfast for us, and wow!!! It was enough to feed an army, and delicious! Everyone was kind and helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay!

Nous venons de passer une très belle semaine dans le Dar Sghira. L'accueil de Mohamed est très chaleureux et il est toujours disponible et efficace quand on a besoin de lui. C'est vraiment un "facilitateur" de voyage inégalable. Nous avons également eu le plaisir de goûter au tajine, au couscous et au petit déjeuner de Fatima (délicieux et copieux à la fois). Bref l'authenticité du Dar allié à la gentillesse et l'efficacité de Mohamed et Fatima ont fait de ce séjour une belle immersion dans la Médina de Fès.

Maison située en plein centre de la médina. Accueil très professionnel et néanmoins chaleureux de Mohamed qui fait tout ce qu'il faut pour vous rendre la vie agréable. Merci encore à lui ! Le dar est confortable et "véridique", mais il n'est pas adapté aux personnes ayant des difficultés de déplacement, car les escaliers sont rudes et les marches très hautes. On se sent vraiment au Maroc dans le Dar Sghira.

Cozy house to rest your aching feet after getting lost in Fez.

This house was great. It felt cozy and lived in which made us comfortable. Isabelle arranged for someone to pick us up at the airport, and then Muhammad met us at the R'cif gate into the old city and guided us to our house. He was very helpful and happy to give any advice that we needed. The house itself is very unique, and it lets you really feel like you are staying in a part of the extensive history of Fez. I would highly recommend printing out all of the maps that Isabelle emails, they were very helpful to find our way back. The old city of Fez is an absolute maze, you will get lost. Getting lost is half of the fun. Don't worry though, there are plenty of people that will guide you back to the R'cif gate for a few coins. I loved taking advantage of the terrace; beautiful views overlooking the city. My only qualms have nothing to do with the the property, but more the city in general. When walking back to the house we were constantly being told that we were going the wrong way because there were only house in that direction, and that they could guide us to our riad. The neighborhood kids also found us to be quite the novelty and would knock on our door and try to come on to our terrace to talk. They were just curious though. Even not being able to speak their language, I was able to get them to leave off. Ultimately, we had a great time staying at this house, it certainly made us feel like we were not just tourists but travelers.

Leben im Herzen der Medina

Unsere Unterkunft vermittelte einen authentischen Eindruck vom Leben in der Altstadt von Fes. Die Wohnung erstreckte ich über mehrere Etagen um einen zentralen Innenhof und war zweckmäßig ausgestattet. Fatima bereitete auf unseren Wunsch das Frühstück und kochte das Abendessen. Dadurch bekamen wir auch einen guten Einblick in die marokkanische Küche, mussten uns aber erst an die Mengen, die sie hervorzauberte, erst einmal gewöhnen. Die Lage ist sehr zentral, so dass man fußläufig alle Sehenswürdigkeiten gut erreichen kann. Wer wie wir, mit dem Auto unterwegs ist, findet am Rande der Medina einen kostengünstigen, bewachten Parkplatz.
