About this property
Riverfront idyll in Shields Valley, 10 min to Livingston
This hidden gem is a slice of heaven - beautifully decorated on the inside; professionally landscaped on the outside with thoughtfully planted garden beds, trees and a vast swathe of native wildflowers; situated right on the Shields River; and surrounded on all sides by the Absaroka-Beartooth, Bridger and Crazy Mountain ranges. It is ideally located for exploring the Livingston area and enjoying many activities all year round.
The home is ideal for couples, small groups and families. Decorated in a relaxed blend of western and contemporary styles, tasteful furniture, artwork and well-appointed amenities the home is perfectly set up to be your home away from home.
The master bedroom has a queen bed; the second bedroom has two singles. Each bedroom has spacious built-in closets and ceiling fans. The main bathroom has a full-size tub with shower; the second bathroom has a large shower.
The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, with ample counter space and a large breakfast bar with 3 bar stools, opening to the great room. The great room features a gas fireplace with stonework flanked by magnificent picture windows looking out on a grove of trees, lawn and down to the river with mountain views beyond. The gas fireplace warms the living space and creates cozy ambiance during winter. A small writing table by a window nook in the great room provides an ideal space for reading, writing or using a laptop.
The outdoor deck offers the perfect place for morning coffee, afternoon cocktails and dining alfresco with river and mountain views, a gas grill, comfortable outdoor dining and lounging furniture.
Situated on 8 acres in the Shields Valley, with private river frontage on the Shields River, the property features many delightful places to relax, explore and enjoy. There are a number of unique out-buildings from the property's previous ranching life - including barns, a bunkhouse and a root cellar. Animal and birdlife are abundant - including deer, black bears, moose, coyotes, wild turkey, Sandhill cranes and bald-headed eagles.
The rental includes all the comforts of a well set up home: Wireless high-speed internet; DISH TV (200 channels); DVD player; Audio receiver wired to speakers both inside and outside the house; Laundry room (with deep sink, washer, dryer, iron, ironing board and ample hanging space), Mudroom (with more storage), Kitchen (with electric range and oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker & grinder, blender, mixer, good selection of bake-ware and a large collection of new table and glassware); Linen closet with bath towels, soap and linens. We also provide many extras in the laundry and kitchen like cleaning supplies and kitchen basics so you won't feel like you have to stock the house from scratch for your stay.
We look forward to welcoming you with a gift basket of home made goodies, local coffee and a complimentary bottle of wine.

About the host
Hosted by Victoria Schilling

We are a young family of four living in paradise..
I am a transplant to Montana from Sydney, Australia via London and New York. Despite having grown up in a large coastal city in Australia, and worked most of my career in the corporate world in big cities, life in the country was the dream - a place to breathe fresh air, take things a little more slowly, appreciate nature, enjoy quality of life and raise a family. My husband is a local - he grew up here, went to school here, runs a business here and his family all still live here.
It was an easy decision for us to start our family life together here, and create a home for our two wonderful children. We love where we live, and hope to be able to share it with you someday.

Why they chose this property
We have lived on a neighboring property since 2008 and love living in the Shields Valley. A rare opportunity to acquire this particular property presented in 2013 - we knew how great it was from living next door - a diamond in the rough, with river frontage and private river access; an ideal size of 7 acres with interesting original out-buildings and an old ranch house with great bones; as well as an ideal location in its proximity to Livingston and area amenities and attractions, yet still being out of town enough to feel country.
What makes this property unique
The guest house is the original home on the property. After extensive renovations and remodeling the end result is an inviting, comfortable retreat. All on one level it is ideally laid out for easy living, with a well-equipped kitchen, plenty of counter space, dishwasher and breakfast bar. The kitchen opens onto the great room with vaulted barn-like whitewashed ceilings, large picture windows, gas fireplace with stone surround, tasteful furnishings and dining area with French doors opening onto a large outdoor deck. The home is set up as we would like it set up for ourselves, our family and friends, so there are a lot more of the little extras and conveniences that make it even more like a home away from home.
Right on the Shields River, fishing access doesn't get much better. River access also provides easy opportunity for swimming and tubing. With river and mountain views from inside the home and from the deck, country living here is idyllic.
The property has all the benefits of a country retreat, yet is just 10 miles to the historic town of Livingston with all its amenities, services, outfitters, shopping, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, museums and galleries; 40 miles to the larger town of Bozeman and Bozeman Yellowstone International airport (BZN); 70 miles to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park; and 40 minutes to Bridger Bowl Ski Area.
