Boardwalk (#641693) sleeps up to 12 and Park Place (#418081) sleeps 20. If you want to rent both homes together you need to go to VRBO # 1171244.

Both Boardwalk and Park Place homes are ideal for family reunions, corporate retreats, social gatherings, church groups and nature lovers. Both homes have been used for small weddings. For large weddings the park's rentable community building is less than a mile away and holds 100 guests.

The beautiful 2000 acre wooded state park that surrounds you has a swimming area, a free boat launch, a community building that will hold over 100 people (ideal for small weddings and business meetings). The park also has 3 picnic shelters, 37 miles of mountain bike trails and 30 miles of hiking trails. Canoe and paddle boat rentals are available for use on the state park's own private lake. We encourage you to look up the Lake Norman State Park Website for more information.

There are wonderful homes in North Carolina in the mountains and at the beach but Boardwalk may be the very best home in the piedmont. With Lake Norman State Park around you, with all its amenities and the state's largest lake in front of you, you may come to the same conclusion.

The home, Boardwalk, is an ideal vacation rental. All four bedrooms are upstairs. The downstairs is one large room containing the living room, dinning room and kitchen. There is a large, shaded, open, upper deck across the entire length of the home facing the lake. Below this deck is a screened in porch which is adjacent to the living/dinning room. There is a full bath on each level. The upper level bathroom also contains the home's washer and dryer.

If you are a hiker, the park has over 30 miles of hiking trails, some short and some long. If you like to meander off trail this park is ideal as you would have to work very hard to get lost as the park is one big peninsula. Going downhill will bring you to the lake where you can just follow the shoreline. Going uphill will bring you to the state park road which runs along the ridge of the peninsula.

Mountain bikers have access to 30 miles of some best wooded trails in the area.

You can swim in your front yard off your own private dock. Fishing is allowed but you will need a state fishing license.

The home faces west across lake, resulting in many a rememberable sunsets.

Must be at least 25 years old to rent either of these homes.

If you bring a pet, check out time is 9 a.m. not 10 a.m. to give the house keepers more time to clean. Do not let your pet(s) get on the furniture! The home has leather couches on which you pet will leave scratches. Pet hair on beds, couches and lines require lots of additional cleaning.

Pet fees: $200 per dog per stay, 2 dogs maximum, Weight limit per dog is 20 lbs. or smaller. Check out time for those who bring pets is 9 am, not 10 am.

Park quite hours are from 9 pm until 8 am. Park gates close at night but there is a way around them.

Good family spot

This is a good, economical spot. The owner is super flexible with dates, which is nice. We saw some of things in the lake but nothing too weird (dead fish, neighbor that likes to run his boat too close to the docks, etc). Overall, we loved our stay and would do it again.

Excellent location and well equipped

The house is well stocked and maintained, but not fancy. The thing that separates this house from others is location. If you want a luxurious stay, this is not your rental. If you want a old-school lake house with a great and convenient location, this is it.

great views, nice house, great trip!

We had a family get together at this property and the sister property. This house is a little more of a cabin feel, a little more dated than the other home. But it was great, and has the better view and dock of the two. we had 12 adults and 11 kids and we had plenty of room between the two houses. Jack was very easy to work with, gave great instructions for check in etc. Great place, highly recommend it.

Awesome stay at Boardwalk!

We needed a large home near Mooresville, for our nieces HS graduation. We travelled from Florida, New York and Michigan. This property was perfect and Jack was very accommodating! The house was large enough and had plenty of very comfortable sleeping areas.the kitchen was functional and the open floor plan was perfect, the large screened porch was very comfortable. We had everything we needed including kayaks and a canoe to explore the lake. The house was clean and organized, I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet retreat on Lake Norman!

Boardwalk

We spent a long weekend (4th of July) at the Boardwalk house. It was a perfect lake weekend - -the weather was very cooperative and the house was very accomodating for our group of 8 adults. All four bedrooms are upstairs, allowing folks to nap without being disturbed by general house activity. The living room/kitchen area is fairly spacious -- but we spent most of our time outdoors. The kayaks, canoe and small sailboat were a definite draw for our group. The area of Lake Norman is fairly calm, with some boat traffic, but nothing crazy (even though it was 4th of July weekend.) We brought our cornhole game set and the backyard area was a perfect setting for play. The hammock was a popular spot for our group - I don't think it was ever empty! The kitchen is well-stocked - everything we needed and then some. Jack was delightful to work with. He met us at checkin and answered any questions we had.

Lake Norman State Park Home Review - Boardwalk

We booked this house, along with the other home on Suprement Court, Boardwalk, together to accomodate out of town family members for our son's wedding. The younger adults stayed in Boardwalk while the older adults, including our 96 year old grandfather, stayed at Park Place. Park Place provided an excellent retreat with it's multiple decks and dock. It was also a great gathering space for the entire family (24 adults+) and shared several wonderful meals around the large table. The wheelchair accessable first floor provided easy access for our grandfather into the bedroom and bathroom plus the other bedrooms provided a wonderful retreat when needed. The Boardwalk property, has a wonderul outdoor dock that provided hours of fun for swimming, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Jack(owner) has several canoes and kayaks plus fishing poles available. Boardwalk also has a wonderful screened in porch for those evenings to keep you bug free. Lake Norman State park has miles of jogging and hiking trails as well. All in all, a wonderfull time for our extended family with the convenience of housing a number of people in one area. Definitely check out these two properties.

Great time with Family on the LAKE

This was our 3rd trip to Lake Norman. Have always stayed farther south- being north WAS GREAT!!! The dock is sufficient and the kids fishing there was successful. The house was everything a Lake house should be. Comfy and a place to lay your head after a LONG day on the water. The screened in porch was perfect for the evening. The kitchen had everything you would need. The appliances are newer and work great. The living spaces are conveniently located at Lake level with all bedrooms upstairs. This location is NOT in a cove but seems to be protected from the main channel. Our 23'+ boat trailer fit on the property with some creative parking. The boat ramp is very close and the Blue Parrott restaurant was an easy 20 min boat ride. Food and drinks were GREAT. Another memorable trip to Lake Norman- will stay up North again!!!!

Hidden Gem

12 of our friends rented Jack's house for a long labor day weekend and it was nothing short of perfect. The house has a great layout and comes with everything you might need. The kayaks and canoe that come with the property are in great shape. Although we never wanted to leave the house, there is a grocery store about 15 minutes away which was incredibly convenient. And I can't forget to mention the beautiful state park that surrounds the property. Looking forward to coming back next year!

Rustic Getaway

My family had a lovely time staying at Boardwalk. We were attending our grand daughter's wedding and this property was the halfway point for the activities planned. The property house is rustic and homey. We had plenty of room to sleep 6 adults and 4 small children upstairs. We were able to accommodate 2 additional family members on the sofas downstairs. Large downstairs area enabled us to visit and enjoy each other. The small children enjoyed the sandy beach in the little cove not far from the house. The canoe and kayak ride was a highlight for them. The house was clean and the owners made us feel very welcome. The lake was beautiful and so relaxing. Wish we had had more time. Thanks Jack and Dave.

Boardwalk for 12

We had 9 adults and 3 children staying for a long weekend (5 nights). There was plenty to do for all. We canoed to the island and spent time on the sand bar and hiked in the state park that is within walking distance from the rental. The grilling area was perfect as well as the large screened in porch. The weather was perfect and we spent most of our time outside. We would definitely recommend this rental for the outdoors type. The inside does need some minor updating but all in all a great time was had by all.

Host profile image
The owner, Jack Greene, was the West District Naturalist for the North Carolina State Parks for 14 years. He has worked as a tour guide on cruise boats in Alaska and on the Columbia River. Currently he is a world wide nature guide and has led 15 groups to Africa, and has led groups to New Zealand, Costa Rica, France, Thailand, British Virgin Islands, Newfoundland, western United States national parks and many other locations.

Why they chose this property

There are only 2 homes in the World listed on VRBO that are inside a state park . BoardWalk is one of them. The other home is called Park Place (VRBO # 418081) which I also own and it is on the same street as BoardWalk.

The Statesville Airport is 8 miles away and has a 7002 foot runway for those who would prefer flying by private plane. Lots of NASCAR people use this airport for their private jets.

The Charlotte Airport has commercial flights and is 50 minutes away.

There are great locations in our mountains and our beaches but this home is the best location in the piedmont. 2000 acres of woodlands at your back and to your right, the state's largest lake in front of you. A large state owned island is across from you. By far the best location and vacation rental on the whole 36 mile long lake.

Along with the canoe and 2 kayaks there is also a sunfish available for those who can sail or for those who want to learn. Nature hikes, wine tours and sometimes live music venues can also be arranged. Transportation to and from the Charlotte or Statesville airports can also be arranged.

Maximum of 2 dogs are allowed. Both under 20 lbs. Pet fee is $200 per pet per stay. Check out will be at 9 am for pet owners.

Park quite hours are 9 pm until 8 am. Gates are locked at night but there is a way around them.

Must be 25 or older in order to rent.

BIG WATER meets your pier, lawn, boathouse and ramp. Outdoor activities abound: water sports, hiking or mountain biking at your front and back doors. Half mile off your shore is an island where the great blue herons have had a rookery the last two summers. Another, smaller island, just as close is where osprey have nested for the last ten years. Walking by the lake shore you will have your own private wooded park with natural beaches, fishing spots and coves. Watching the Sun set behind the herons with its long tongue of fire dancing on the water brings your day to a sigh.

What makes this property unique

The only one of two vacation rental homes in the World that is inside a state park is what makes this home unique!

This listing and description is for BoardWalk. It has 4 bedrooms each with a Queen beds, 2 sleeping sofas and 2 bathrooms. The boat house has kayaks, a canoe, a sunfish, paddles, life vest and lake toys are stored .

BoardWalk has:
- 4 bedrooms upstairs
- 2 sleeping couches downstairs in the living room area
- A full bathroom is on each of the home's 2 floors
- washer and dryer are located in the upstairs bathroom along with washing detergent
- no bunk beds
- on the main channel
- boathouse with 2 kayaks, 2 canoes, life vests, and paddles
- a sunfish sailboat is also available for those who know how to sail. If you don't know how to sail, lessons can be provided, if desired.
- 2 charcoal grills, one of which is Green Egg. If you don't know about this grill, please look it up on line.

Now here are some of the amenities that no other vacation rental in the world can offer you.

- 35 miles of hiking trails
- 30 miles of mountain biking trails
- 13 miles of shoreline
- Fishing (state permit required)
- Largest Public Swimming Area on the lake, with Bathhouse, showers, lockers and snack bar less than a 2 minute drive away. Or if you prefer a 45 minute trail hike through mature hardwoods.
