Ocean Stay overlooking Playa del Viuda
SPECIAL 2023 SUMMER / AUTUMN OFFER. 15% DISCOUNT IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH! ENQUIRE ABOUT OUR SPECIAL OUT OF SEASON LONG TERM RENTAL RATES
Excellent fully equipped modern house located just metres from the beautiful Playa de la Viuda beach and minutes from the picturesque village of Punta del Diablo, part of Uruguay's golden coast. A cool glass of wine on the roof terrace taking in the majestic Atlantic Ocean, a well grilled steak from the open air parrilla after a hard day on the beach or taking in the beautiful scenery around this charming coastal fishing village are all on offer when you decide to stay with us.
The house is modern and elegant spread over 3 levels with decks with ocean view on each level. There are 2 bedrooms en suite on the ground floor both with access to the beach facing deck, a spacious living area on the first floor, which provides the choice of eating indoors or al fresco on the deck, whilst taking in the morning sunrise over the ocean. The property is completed by a further bedroom and roof terrace on the second floor. The house sits in its own garden with full size uruguayan barbeque and seating area. Fully equipped, wifi, satellite TV/DVD, washing machine and fully air conditioned; we even provide the wood for the fire and the barbecue. For cooler autumn evenings sit in front of the open hearth whilst enjoying a glass of Tannat. The village of Punta del Diablo has all amenities and is located within 3 hours of Montevideo Airport, 50 km (30 mi) from the Brazilian border. Other areas of interest close to Punta del Diablo are: Cabo Polonio is about 40 minutes south. It is a fun, wild trip in old ww2 4x4 trucks through the sand dunes and along the beach – there is no road or other vehicle access. There are a few restaurants, but the village is famous for its sea lion colony and the expansive views from the top of the lighthouse - in season you may even see migrating Southern Right whales. Alternatively if you are interested in colonial history why not visit Fortaleza Santa Teresa, a national historic museum which is halfway between Punta del Diablo and Chuy; built by the Portuguese before the Spanish took it over and still in a great state of repair. Or if you fancy a boat trip and walk through woods there is Monte de Ombues is on the way to Cabo Polonio, you can take a boat to visit the forest, the most extensive Ombues forest in the Plata region.
The coastline provides long golden beaches, warm summer swimming and good surf opportunities. Restaurants serve locally caught fish and the other staples of the famed Uruguayan cuisine: Steak, Chivitos and Milanesas and fresh pasta. so there is always something delicions to eat when the appetite strikes. Try Panes & Peces in the summer season for live music, La 70 for great home made pasta and a decent house wine, Il Tano if you fancy something out of season.

Lovely home in a great town
This house had everything we could have wanted: Nice decks, a parrilla, wonderful location. We cooked a big dinner and had everything we needed in the kitchen. Matthew and Alejandro were very helpful. Punta Del Diablo is a great, relaxing beach town, with three interesting beaches to explore. Well worth a visit!

Thanks Travis,
I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Punta del Diablo is evolving from a students disco town to somewhere everyone can enjoy without being mobbed by the crowds.
We continue to improve and maintain a high standard in the house so pleased to hear all was up to scratch.
All the best
Matthew

Many thanks Luis, will let Alejandro know viz the negative points, house is meant to be perfect for our guests arrival
We had a wonderful time at this house. I do t think the pictures do it justice. There are wonderful shaded balconies with views of the ocean on each of the three floors. The kitchen is well equipped. The Parilla is wonderful and wood is available. The beach is a short walk over the dunes and we enjoyed long walks every evening. Satellite TV was available to enjoy the finals of the world cup and internet was reliable. We greatly enjoyed our time together at this house and in Punta del Diablo. Thank you Matthew and Alejandro.
This home is fantastic. The experience starts with Matthew, the owner, who is so friendly and helpful and responsive even though he doesn't live in Uruguay. The property manager, Alejandro, is right there in Diablo. He too is very friendly and helpful and available on a few minutes notice if needed. The house itself is amazing. While we were only 2, it can easily accommodate many more people. The place is cozy and has a very homey, comfortable feeling. The place is well equipped and plenty of hot water (not always the case in S. A.) The beautiful expansive beach is reached after walking through gorgeous dunes. Dry wood for BBQ and inside fires is supplied in abundance. We recommend Matthew's place without reservation. A visit to Uruguay has to include Punta del Diablo and would not be complete without spending time in Matthew's home. Jack and Michelle

Beautiful well equipped home in a stunning location.
Matthew’s home in PdD was fantastic. Well equipped, clean and convenient yet far away enough from town that allowed peace and quiet. Views amazing. Owner always highly and promptly responsive to even the smallest question. We recommend this property without reservation to anyone. Thank you.

Truly a home away from home
My husband and I booked a week in early March. We fell in love with the place right away and ended up staying in this lovely home for 3 whole weeks!
The home is spacious with lots of comfortable spots to enjoy the ocean views, sunshine and cool breezes. You will find everything you need for a perfect stay.
The kitchen is fully equipped, complete with our-door sitting areas & wood burning grill. You will however need to supply all food items, even pantry items/staples. We prefer to do our own cooking so we were fine with this. There are plenty of good shops for groceries near by or drive into Chuy if you don't can't find what your looking for, you'll definitely find it there. If you want to dine out, there are plenty of options in town, just 5 minutes in the car.
The third floor deck is an great place to take afternoon sun, have late afternoon cocktail or star gaze at night. The star are fantastic!
The house stays pretty cool but the ac works like a charm if you need it.
There is a brand new clothes washer and a clothes line out in the yard, so that makes life easy too.
There's a beach umbrella and beach chairs as well as beach towels available for a day at the shore as well as as a small cooler to keep your drinks cold in the hot sand! Seriously, they thought of everything! The beach is a 5 minute walk thru the sand dunes and is huge. Nice walk to the light house or to town!
There are some fun things to do near by if you can't take anymore relaxation. Both the owner and caretaker can advise you.
The property is clean, well kept and has all the amenities mentioned in the listing description. If you need the house cleaned or if you need anything at all just contact the caretaker Alejandro. He is terrific and came to our rescue more than once! He can give advice about things to do in the area, where to eat or drink, he can fix any problem and knows everyone in town. He's a real gem. Oh, but brush up on your Spanish because he does not speak English.
We would highly recommend this place to anyone. But definitely go for more than just few days. It's a great place to unwind, relax and enjoy yourselves!
Thank you for everything. We hope to return someday!

About the host
Hosted by Matthew
A globe trotter for work and having the opportunity many years ago to work in the north of Uruguay i was struck by the openness and friendliness of the locals. After a couple of false starts finally settled on this property at the north end of the Golden Coast, largely unexplored but gradually being recognised as an unspoilt area by those travellers who want to get away from the touristic centres such as Punta del Este
Why they chose this property
We looked at several properties along the coast before settling here. The peacefulness of the area, the view, the wonderful setting and obviously the well constructed house design were factors. Sitting on the deck eating breakfast with a cool breeze, the sunshine and the Atlantic Ocean as your morning companions are irreplaceable
What makes this property unique
SUPER SUMMER / AUTUMN 2023
LIKE THE HOUSE, WHY NOT BUY IT AND LIVE A RELAXED BEACH LIFE IN A SECURE COUNTRY AWAY FROM EUROPEAN AND NORTH AMERICAN STRESSES!
Peace, tranquility and an air of overall relaxation are what the area brings. The house was actually constructed as a primary residence for a British music composer so has all the amenities and design you would expect of a permanent residence rather than purely a summer home. I have tried to maintain this and improve the property since buying it and want my guests to enjoy the area and the house as if it was their own.
