Located on Spafford Landing (also known as Wickwire Point), our Waterfall Cottage overlooks a beautiful and private waterfall. The pristine waters of Skaneateles Lake are just 100 yards down the driveway, with great swimming, fishing and boating.
Our beach has unobstructed and dramatic views of the lake, and from our location on the east side of the lake, we enjoy spectacular sunsets, often around a bonfire.
Our 45-acre property abuts a 300-acre nature preserve with great hiking trails.
Cottage has 1 bedroom with double bed. Sleeping loft has three twin beds. The loft is great for children aged 5 and up (steep ladder might be a challenge for younger kids). 1 bathroom with shower. Wood stove (firewood included) and electric heaters for cool evenings. No TV, but WiFi is included.
Lakefront has level beach. We have a canoe and kayak (with paddles and life jackets). Sturdy rowboat with 6HP outboard (gas included) available for additional fee of $100. Mooring available if you have a boat.
The kitchen has everything but a dishwasher -- full size fridge, electric stove/oven, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker. Even a Cuisenart. Plenty of pots/pans/dishes, etc.
Dining table seats 4 comfortably, or 6 in a pinch. We also have an outside table/chairs for dinners al fresco. Propane grill on site (gas included).
We're a nice canoe/kayak ride from "Staghorn Point", where kids can find a Skaneateles treasure: staghorns -- actually, horn coral from when the area was under the ocean. Should you want to leave the lake, there are wineries, museums and other attractions in the area.
Our family summered in the Waterfall Cottage while our children were growing up, and we have wonderful memories. After we built a year-round house on the beach, we started renting out the Waterfall cottage. Most of our guests have stayed with us every summer for several years.

This place has it all. A waterfall right out the front door. A grassy beach with shade trees and crystal clear water. A great area to kayak in. Beautiful flower gardens for evening walks. The host couple was extraordinary! We felt like family friends. It was a heavenly vacation!
The property we stayed at was very nice and clean. It everything we needed and then some. We even had access to a fresh herb garden! The waterfall sounded like rain and the background noise was very soothing to sleep. The beach's water was very clean. Our communication and interactions with the owner could not be beat. He helped us every step along the way with accommodating items we needed, helping us and answering our questions. I wholeheartedly recommend this rental to anyone else looking for a nice nature getaway with all the amenities.
Just an awesome location if you are looking to disconnect and unwind on a really excellent property at the south end of the lake. This was our second consecutive summer renting from John and Robin, and they are some of the nicest people and best hosts you will ever find. Highly recommend.
Very cute cottage with a very relaxing waterfall right in the backyard! I loved sitting outside catching up on some summer reading! Just what a teacher needed after a long school year! The lake was absolutely beautiful and fishing was awesome! Our hosts were very helpful and kind. Our kids had a great time and it was a good to have our family time.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Waterfall cottage. It was so relaxing to have the sight and sound of the waterfall right outside of the cottage. The cottage was cozy and clean and has a well equipped kitchen. The owners are nearby and eager to answer any questions and provide suggestions for things to do and see. A short walk to the lake for swimming, boating and fishing in the crystal clear water of Skaneatleles Lake. Lots of hiking opportunities right outside of the cottage. Downtown Skaneateles is a 15 minute drive and has a nice selection of restaurants. Highly recommend. Look forward to getting back there soon.

We're glad you had a good time, and you're welcome back any time!
We had such a nice time at the cottage. Such a peaceful, lovely property that allowed us to really relax. John and Robin are such friendly hosts. We loved Fishing from the dock, swimming in the lake and taking boat rides to search for fossils.
John and Robin are very hospitable, friendly, and helpful. I can appreciate their love for the area as it is quite beautiful. The cottage we stayed in is adorable and met all our needs. We enjoyed our stay very much. The waterfall in our backyard was spectacular and hearing its continuous flow was very peaceful. The short walk down to the lake was very enjoyable and swimming in the lake is ofcourse the best. I have never found more clean and soothing water as that of lake Skaneateles. And the view from our beach was awesome!
Robin and John are absolutely wonderful hosts, and two of the nicest people you will ever meet. My wife and I rented the waterfall cottage for a week with our 3 boys (ages 13/11/6), and we had an absolute blast. The property is 100% as described in the listing. The cabin is very clean, and the peaceful sound of the waterfall takes modern everyday stresses away. We took advantage of the fabulous hiking trails, swam every day, and caught over a dozen smallmouth bass up and down the Spafford coastline. We’d highly recommend this property, and will, very likely, rent the space again next summer

We also had a good time watching the boys have such a good time. We'd be happy to have them back!
John and Robin are wonderful hosts. A bit disappointed that the cottage wasn’t on the lake but the waterfall in the backyard was manically! A lovely spot for rest and relaxation.
A wonderful and unique opportunity to visit one of the cleanest lakes and quietest spots in the country. John and Robin are super hosts and their property was perfect for our family vacation. We're already excited to return next year!! :-)

It was s perfect family vacation
We stayed in John's cottage for almost a week in mid-August, two adults with two small children.
The location is just perfect! A short walk to the lake next to a flowing waterfall, a quiet rural environment and a paradise for those who love and appreciate nature.
John and his wife were traveling with friends almost all the time of our vacation, but they left us a well-equipped home and allowed us to enjoy their balcony, the vegetable garden, and the boat.
The only thing that bothered me a little was the ladder that leads to the upper half of the cottage. This is a simple wooden ladder that is not suitable for small children and older people will find it not very comfortable.
The cottage itself is small but cozy and well-equipped with everything necessary.
Beyond that, it really is a unique place and we had a great experience. John is a great guy very kind and caring.
We look forward to returning in the future

About the host
Hosted by John Hinchcliff
We've summered on Spafford Landing our entire lives. Our three children grew up here, exploring the woods, swimming, and boating, going outside in the morning and returning when they got hungry. It's a special place.
Why they chose this property
Our family has owned property on the Lake since the 1940s, and when our neighbor decided to sell in 1992, we didn't hesitate to buy this property. Our original family homestead has passed down to cousins, and Spafford Landing remains a large part of our family heritage.
What makes this property unique
Our Waterfall Cottage is a sanctuary from the stresses of modern life.
