About the host
Hosted by Karla Piner
I'm a furniture designer and have a passion for cleverly designed and beautifully made furniture and objects. I hope this passion comes across in Connell's House and Barn, which has been lovingly restored over a two year period. As well as designing furniture I also have a very keen interest in Irish and Scottish vernacular architecture, hence why I restored this beautiful old derelict thatched cottage, which was a dream come true!
I live twenty minutes from Connell House & Barn, so I'll always been on hand to help out guests and answer any queries. I'm very house proud, so the House & Barn will be squeaky clean when you arrive!
Why they chose this property
Connell's House and Barn was a derelict building when my family acquired it. It's the oldest building in Duleek village and was in existence during the famous 'Battle of the Boyne' in 1690. The Connell family lived here for several generations, hence the name, and it holds many memories for the people in the village still to this day.
It took two years to restore and re-build Connell's House and Barn and we are delighted to have saved this vernacular building for future generations to enjoy.
What makes this property unique
This is a genuine period thatched cottage, but it has all the comfort and warmth of a modern home, whilst retaining the character of the original building. It's furnished with an eclectic style of furniture and accessories and has some really comfortable beds, beautiful bed linen, white fluffy towels and great showers. A truly unique holiday home!
