About this property

Martin Ridge Ohio river view

Our guest house has 4 bed rooms. The master bed room has a California king bed the others have 2 queen size beds. There are two full beds for the smaller people with a fight to see who gets to sleep in the coveted Crows Nest. We can easily sleep 20. The kitchen in stocked with the usual pots, pans, dishes and the apliances linens provided. Outside patio has wood and a fire pit. Deck just out the patio doors in the kitchen has a grill with charcoal in the garage. This home was built by our son in 2002. it is one of 3 homes on our 200 acre farm. It sets at the very end of Martin Ridge in the center of the farm. The closest house is to the rear of the guest house 1/8 mile away. The only thing beyond this dead end road is the remaining part of the farm, a herd of beef cattle, a 6 mile river view, miles and miles of hills and hollows, starry nights ,moon and sun rises and sets, and lots of natures wild southern Indiana critters. The name of our farm is Peaceful Hills, come stay with us and you will come to appreciate the meaning....

This was our second stay on Martin Ridge and it was perfect! The home was clean, comfortable, and well equipped. The hosts are helpful and kind. And the view is just heavenly. This was a wonderful place stay and we highly recommend it!

Beautiful view, several open spaces for family time, large bedrooms, clean bathrooms, great water pressure and up to date appliances. Firepit with sidewalk entrance to home. Extra refrigerator/freezer in the attached garage.

Guys trip

We had a great time fishing and hiking the area. The locals were all friendly and you could watch the moon rise over the Ohio River from the backyard. The owner was very helpful and the property had everything we needed to have a relaxing trip. We will definitely be returning.

Wonderful trip

I highly recommend this property in Derby, Indiana, for a family getaway. The combination of stunning river views, the fire pit for roasting marshmallows, and the ability to fly kites make it an excellent choice. Furthermore, the cleanliness of the farmhouse is impressive, and you can feel confident that your family will have a comfortable and relaxing stay.

Beautiful, fun and relaxing

This was our third time vacationing here. We just love it. Once again, we had a wonderful stay. It was so relaxing and beautiful. The house is clean and welcoming. The pool is fun and enjoyable for everyone. The kids (and adults) really enjoyed the cows as well as the stunning views. Joann and her husband are amazing hosts and we appreciate all their help and answers to our questions about farm life. We highly recommend this beautiful property.

This was our families second time to stay at Martin Ridge. We love it here. Something for everyone, pool, fishing wonderful surroundings. The house was immaculate and it is equipped with everything you would have in your home. Joanne and her family are wonderful hosts. Met her grandsons and they are polite, respectful and wonderful boys. Already booked for next year!

50th Anniversary Celebration

Beautiful home, beautiful view of the Ohio River. (Especially at dawn) There were 18 of us. We grilled, played games, flew kites. Everyone had a wonderful family weekend together!

Men’s Group Retreat

The location and atmosphere couldn’t have been better. Seven men came together for our annual retreat. The space is beautiful and spiritual. We ate, drank, walked and sat by the fire. The view of the forest and river make this a unique and special place. We hope to come back again,

Quiet get away

He had a lovely stay, we had beautiful views and ample space. We really enjoyed our stay. We were able to go to another property the owner had to see the eclipse, since this home was at 99% totality. Joann when above and beyond and we have already discussed coming back. We couldn't see house numbers on the home and it took us a minute to find the rental.

College friends weekend getaway

Very private and peaceful location. The views were much better than expected. The hostess stocked the kitchen with paper tableware and even plastic silverware. Unexpected but much appreciated. Well stocked kitchen. Very clean and spacious.

We were born and raised right here in Perry county. I was raised on a dairy farm and my husband, Phil was raised on a hog farm. We purchased this farm in 1972 and have lived here ever since. We raised 4 children here. My Great-Great-Great Grandfather, Mason Carter came to Perry County in 1813 from Kentucky. Phil's Great-Great-Great Grandfather, Jules Etienne came here from Florenville, Belguim in 1850. Perry County has been our family home for generations. We have made our livings on the land as farmers and woodsmen. We have a deep love for this area and an equally deep dedication to the natural resources that sustain rural life and provide such a unique atmosphere.

Why they chose this property

Our son Robin built this home in 2002 with the intention of raising his family on his boyhood farm. Opportunity called them elsewhere and we bought his home. We have visitors here often to paint or just admire the view. It seemed like a no brainer to freshen the house up a little and use it as a guesthouse. Located in Perry county we have the same hilly landscape as Brown County but not the crowds.

What makes this property unique

Besides the unbelievable view if you have never experienced the utter joy of living high above the rest of the world on the very end of a ridge, with the only light at night from the sky and the only sounds coming from nature and you are in for a treat. If you are familiar with scenic Brown County you will fall in love with Perry County. The same beautiful landscape less the crowds plus the Ohio River.
