About this property

Eclectic on the Square, by Veeve

This one-bed apartment is in a fantastic location near Russell Square - the very centre of the City. Sleeping up to four guests, it's a brilliant base to walk to the British Museum, Oxford Street, Soho, Covent Garden and many other central attractions.

If the location of this one-bedroom home – a few steps from Russell Square, a five-minute stroll to the British Museum, and a lively walk to Soho – doesn’t entice you, then the tastefully eclectic design style will. Hop off the tube and walk only a few feet to find yourself in this first-floor apartment in a classic Georgian building, where colourful prints, maps and art pieces adorn the walls, natural light pierces every corner, and a unique charming character permeates every room.

Warmth and colour radiate through the living room as soon as you walk in. The beautiful wooden floors complement the timber tones of the eclectic, lopsided bookshelf while juxtaposing the blue accents of the walls and soft furnishings. Two sofas surround a large coffee table which can convert into a dining table, providing a clever way to maximise space in this bright, cosy room.

The kitchen offers a minimalist haven within this maximalist home: tasteful tiles and a grey-green fitted cupboard are the standouts here. All the regular amenities are here too, including a fridge/freezer, gas hob, oven and dishwasher.

The bedroom oozes character and personality while still retaining the warmth and comfort of the living room. A giant super king-sized bed ensures a restful night’s sleep, sitting under vibrant vintage posters. Another bookshelf offers a choice selection of novels, and an antique bedside table complements the rustic wooden texture of the gorgeous wooden floors. The en-suite bathroom is exquisitely elegant, bedecked in dark brown on the floors and walls that gives it a stately feel. Here you’ll find a shower, toilet and large wash basin.

We Love
The location – situated right next to a tube station and less than a minute’s walk from one of London’s most iconic squares, this home is a gateway to Central London like nothing else.

Home Truths:
No smoking, pets or parties. The apartment is on the first floor with no lift access. Although we always endeavour for accuracy, there may be rare occasions where the listing photography and description do not provide an exact representation of the home’s amenities.

Nice flat in a good location. Needs better property management.
I'd like to give the property owner *5 stars* and the property management *1 star*. Pros: The flat is exactly as pictured and right by Russell Square station, excellent grocery market, movie theater and more. Kitchen was surprisingly well equipped, and the bedroom has a rare king-sized bed. The only reason I'd give property manager Veeve *1 star* is that check in was prompt and convenient. Thank you. After that, a zero ... Amenities confirmed in advance did not exist (TV to watch football, which was the reason for the trip to London). There is however a small screen and WIFI, so you can watch some limited programs like Netflix. On our first of 7 days, the power went out due to a fuse. We figured that out fortunately, because it took property management 24 hours to check back by e-mail. The shower had hot water on the first two days, then none thereafter. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooks, but due to the unexplained power issue, the oven would not heat (even when all other appliances and outlets were shut down). So no TV, no oven, no showers, and no help from Veeve. The info handout for the property was not for this flat, and another was sent by e-mail, but still the details did not match the property. So either twice the wrong info, or just outdated info. For example, no clear instruction on sorting rubbish or disposing of recycling. So again, no regrets about the property, but if you choose Veeve you will be on your own. I'm a vacation homeowner myself, and I have rented homes in Italy, US (from FL to CA), Mexico and Latin America. In my opinion this homeowner deserves better support on his vacation rentals.

Why they chose this property

A bookish oasis in the heart of London, this is where the legendary Bloomsbury Group — the artists and writers who were said to “live in squares and love in triangles” — met and worked in the 19th century. Home to a multitude of fantastic book-stores, not to mention the British Museum and the University of London, Bloomsbury’s illustrious literary tradition is alive and well.
