About this property
Picturesque Getaway Tippecanoe River
A secluded place for your family to have alone time. Come be in nature.
Perched on the bank of the Tippecanoe River, this house hangs in air like a treehouse, giving optimal river views. The house and river offer leisure and vigorous activities: There's a prolific flowering garden, a screened in porch, outdoor patios, swings, tubing, chair surfing(river lounging), fishing, hiking, bird watching, games, bon fires, nature walks to mention a few. Come be in the wild. A river resident and unmissed neighbor, the great blue heron, unknowingly catches the attention of a room, even if only flying by. A walk to one of the islands, or across the river, is always a fun, and sometimes tricky activity. The Tippecanoe River stands two and a half feet tall at normal height. There is a mile loop that takes you through the neighborhood, for those walkers and runners.
The open kitchen looks down upon the living and dining rooms, making it the central hub of the house. The concrete patio, under the house, is a great hangout year round...sun, rain, lightning storms. This house is a great getaway.
This is not a party house. No bachelor parties. No loud noise or fires after midnight due to neighbors. People live on the Tippecanoe River. Please respect them and this beautiful land we all share. No shooting wild life from the property.
*The fireplace inside the house is unworkable. It is not listed as an amenity. Fires can not be made in this fireplace, sorry for the inconvenience. There is also no TV at the house. Streaming shows from your computer is fast and easy.
Thank you

About the host
Hosted by Patrick Schuette

I grew up in Lafayette. For eight years in my teens and younger, I attended Camp Tecumseh, my neighbor now. I have such fond memories of this part of Indiana. On Friday nights, you can hear the drumming and cheers from closing camp fire, a joyous occasion.
I completely renovated this house, for it was deemed inhabitable.

Why they chose this property
This property is unique by its remote location, big open rooms and spaces to enjoy your friends and family, and it's beautiful flowering garden that yields all summer long.
You will certainly see ducks, and geese, and the Great Blue Heron. In springtime, goslings are plentiful. If you are an early riser, expect to see a deer somewhere on the property, they are even sometimes spotted on an island in the river. There are lots of other birds and tiny critters that live along the Tippecanoe River. In 11 years, I have known of no negative encounters with wildlife in the area. Indiana Beach is 20 minutes north.
The house is close to a relatively shallow, slightly swift river. There are an assortment of activities to do. Even watching the river from a comfortable chair is remarkably soothing and rejuvenating.
The kitchen, living, and dining rooms are all connected, with the kitchen three steps up, to have excellent views of the main family spaces. The outdoor concrete patio, under the house, is the perfect place to enjoy being outside, while completely being shielded from the hot sun or a chaotic rain storm.
The garden has been a project of my fathers for many years, with my assistance. Flowers start blooming in spring and continue through late summer and fall. The assortment of hostas provide elegant flowers for months, as each bloom when they are ready. Resurrection Lilies pop out of the ground for only a week usually in late July.
