About this property

3, 6 or 12 month options, close to Seattle, dining, shopping-Waterfront beauty

Available April 1st, 2025. Coastal themed, fully furnished and well appointed home with a dedicated parking spot. Spend your days relaxing in the sun, lounging in the shade, exploring the beach, watching eagles, ships, tugs go by while you curl up with a book, or take a stroll on our country lane. Less than 30 minutes from Seattle or Bellevue and 10 minutes from Boeing and thr Paine Field airport in Everett. The Haven has a private entrance in our home. Picnic Point is halfway between Edmonds and Mukilteo. The Picnic Point Park with public beach has tide pools and is 1/2 mile easy walk. When the tide is out the vast beach stretches out in front where sand dollar beds, crabs, urchins and star fish can be found hiding in the sea grass. If you're here in March and April it's common to see humpback whales going by as they feed, breach and swim between Picnic Point and the southern tip of Whidbey Island. We are minutes from Boeing at Paine Field, the largest building in the USA. Numerous Museums and historical airplanes are very close by.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. THERE ARE MANY STAIRS!
Thr Haven is in our home, which is waterfront and was built on a steep lot. Please note, as shown in the last photo, you go down a very long flight of stairs to enter the rental unit and back up those steps when you leave. If stairs are not a problem, you will enjoy unobstructed views and a beautiful setting to rest and relax.

2. THERE ARE NUMEROUS TRAINS, DAILY AND SOMEWHAT LESS AT NIGHT
Waterfront in our area means trains, and our guests will hear (and sometimes feel) trains as they go by. For some, the sound is soothing and relaxing. It's just part of the local charm on the Lane. Earplugs are used by some for sleep, and we provide a white noise machine that’s easy to select your preferred sound and choose a volume that suits your needs. A fan is also available in the room.

3. QUIET, PRIVATE LANE
Our Lane is a quiet, narrow, country Private roadway and many local residents have lived here 40+ years. The nights are extremely quiet, and we ask our guests to honor "quiet volumes" anytime after 9 pm until 7:30 am.

Beautiful spot on the water

This was a perfect place to both work and relax. The owners do a good job of describing the place, including the warning that there are steep stairs to access the entrance. The view is fantastic and relaxing on the deck was perfect. I can't wait to go back.

Amazing!!

This place was wonderful! I was staying for 3 days and ended up adding two more days to my trip. The view is unbelievable, the trains were fun to watch, they didn't make much noise. I have stayed at many places over the last 20 years and I have to say, this is my favorite place.

Easy get away!

The Haven was spectacular! The stairs were worth the view; having the full wall of windows overlooking the sound was amazing! The kitchen had everything we needed and the little table on the deck was perfect for us to enjoy coffee in the morning and our meals outside. This will definitely be on our list to come back to!

Great waterfront property with amazing sunset view's

Very Comfortable and memorable experience. Working in Everett that week, I stayed 4 nights. A lot of steps to get down to the unit but worth every step. The trains going by were fun to watch, I looked forward to the next one coming by. Really enjoyed watching the fishermen and crabbers in their boats from the deck and the view of the sunset is priceless. Overall, a really special place with great hosts! Thank you Don and Sara

Beautiful

Beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Well organized and stocked with everything you would need to cook. The owners are one text message away and responded immediately. I had a little trouble with the code to enter but Sara was quick to remedy it. She is also gracioulsy sending me my wedding rings I left behind. As a solo travelor I felt safe. The property is in a beautiful location with an amazing view of the sound.

Quiet and great views!

The rental was beautiful, had everything we needed, and had great views. The stairs are a bit steep, but we knew that going in. Hosts were accommodating and communicated quickly with us, though we never met them personally. That was okay as we felt like we had privacy and like it was our place to come and go as we pleased. The road in and out was pretty small and very dark at night. I might not have felt entirely comfortable on it with a large SUV or truck, but worked out with our small rental vehicle. We would definitely stay again.

Good experience

Clean, comfortable, spacious. Stairs down to the bottom, then one level up to the unit was challenging (over age 60), but felt more in shape after the week. For out of town guest and myself it was perfect, between Seattle and San Juan Island. Went to Underground Seattle tour, Chihuly Glass, Pier 57 Wings Over Washington, and the Ballard Locks. Walked on Friday Harbor ferry, rented a Chevy Tracker from Susie's Mopeds and zipped around the island. Tried to see whales, went to Roche Harbor, Amaro Farm, and Krystal Farm. Spent the night at Discovery Inn which has very spacious, lush grounds with seating all over and a hot tub. The owners were easy to communicate with. Thank-you!

Relaxing with a view that's never the same!

Our stay at The Haven was relaxing. It is a great place off the beaten path but close enough to go on day adventures. The view is amazing and changes each day. We spent a lot of time on the deck watching the fisherman and one morning, when the water was calm, we saw dolphins and seals. Sunsets were amazing too! When it got too cold in the evening we could still enjoy the view sitting inside. The Haven is a quiet getaway - even with the occassional train that passes by. The hosts of The Haven are great and made sure we had everything we needed. The kitchen was sufficiently stocked - even spices in the cupboard. Thoughtful additions throughout - outdoor blankets, a fan, umbrella, binoculars - to name a few. The descriptions and pictures accurately represent The Haven - no surprises. We would return!

Visiting my son.

What a treasure! The photos and description don’t give it justice! I never realized that the location is literally right off the water. The balcony looks over a back yard, train tracks, beach when the tide goes out and the most spectacular views of islands across the Sound. The unit was super roomy and comfy with all the amenities. Easy communication with the owners who were super nice. I will be back and next time with my husband. The stairs were not bad at all, with a nice railing and motion lights at night. The view was worth every step!!! A bald eagle even swooped up right in front of the balcony! Besides the joy of seeing my son that I haven’t seen in so long, what an extra treat to stay in such a nice place.

The property and owners are first class

Went to Seattle to watch some baseball. Don and Sara were great to deal with and layout very clear instructions both before and when you get to the unit. So there are no surprises and it is very easy to feel at home quickly. This is a great home with good finishing, appliances and amenities. The patio is a great place to relax, watch the sunset and bbq. Yes there are a lot of stairs, but this is a good heart starter for the day. Note: You do need a car to get to shopping, dining etc. This location is removed from the commercial services. However, nothing is more than a 10 to 15 minute drive away.

Stunning views, well-appointed home away from home!

76 stairs down, another 4 up, another 23 up but SO worth it!! My husband had a 4 wk old siatic issue but after a week of climbing up and down the stairs it worked itself out, truely! ...and we aren't young either! Don and Sara have a gorgeous well-appointed rental unit that is fully stocked, with even a washer & dryer! They are also very respectful of your privacy and are available if you have any issues or concerns (we had none). There are trains that run along the shoreline, but cannot be heard in the unit so sleeping was never an issue. We actually enjoyed watching the trains! Near to the unit are restaurants, shopping, and in walking distance is a public beach, and an old shipwreck (seen from the deck). We would reccommend this place to anyone who wishes for a spectacular view, privacy, all the while being close to the city of Seattle, or in just a few hours, the BC ferry that took us across to Victoria, BC for an overnighter to celebrate my husband's birthday. Thank you Don and Sara for a lovely stay! We would return without question if we were to find ourselves back in Seattle!

Beautiful Haven on the water

This was our first time in a VRBO and we were not disappointed! We moved to the area from Maui and wanted to stay somewhere other than a hotel to look for a new home to live in and found this little gem on the water and so happy we did! It was a fabulous place to come back to in the evenings and a great way to start off our new life in Washington! The apartment itself was more than beautiful with everything you could possibly want or need available. Beautiful views, a comfy bed, a well stocked kitchen, a beautiful large bathroom, fast WiFi and overall superb accommodations. I haven't ever been around trains and I'm a light sleeper which worried me a little, but they never kept me up and I actually slept really well and found the sound of the trains very relaxing and we enjoyed watching them go by! The stairs...well there are a lot of stairs and the owners are very detailed and upfront about them in the description but I think it just added to the overall appeal of the place. No complaints here. Even though the apartment seems very secluded we were within a short drive of restaurants and other amenities, best of both worlds! The owners Sara and Don, are both very gracious hosts and responded to messages quickly. The check in and out process was very easy. I would like to stay here again during the summer to enjoy more of the beach area and will recommend to my visiting friends and family as well! Mahalo nui loa, Stephanie and Michael

Beautiful view, beautiful rental

My husband and I stayed in this lovely location the week after Thanksgiving 2016. Yes, the stairs are challenging and if you forgot something in the car you thought twice about how much you really wanted it. We are in our late 50s and in good shape. The stairs are wooden and being a wet climate they do tend to get slippery. I would not have wanted my elderly mother to attempt them. Carrying my big old suitcase up and down didn't bother me at all because my husband did it, ahaha! And he didn't complain any more than usual about my over packing. I did at least carry the groceries. The trains did not bother us. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed watching them. The television was a nice one although we probably only used it twice while there. We did appreciate the little speaker to hook up to our phones for music. The kitchen and bath were well stocked, the furniture attractive and comfortable. The bed linens were exceptionally nice. The dishwasher worked well; we cooked quite a few of our meals there. The place was built for someone much taller than me but they even had a small step stool, which I appreciated! There was plenty of hot water, good lighting and the temperature was easy to maintain comfortably. There were books and games as well as local information provided. We saw harbor seals out the window (Thank you for supplying an umbrella and binoculars, I forgot to pack ours) Grocery stores and other shopping are nearby. While the owners were present and my husband did call them with a concern/question which was handled with NO problem, we saw them only once in passing and had no other contact. Downtown Seattle is a bit of a drive but that is not why we were there. We explored the islands, I enjoyed the ferrying experience as it is something I have only done rarely in my life. We spent an afternoon walking the downtown district of Edmonds; it is charming with many tempting stores and restaurants. The Everett waterfront area was also nice with a fun stony beach, a walk along the water and an educational display at the old light house. My favorite was Picnic Point Park. We went a couple of times and spent several hours there, yes, in cold, wet November. It was beautiful and interesting and something this landlocked gal from southwestern Pennsylvania doesn't get to experience too often. I would be very tempted to stay here again should we return to the area. Thanks!!

About the host

Hosted by Don and Sara Christensen

Host profile image
We fell in love with this property from the first moment we pulled onto the Lane in 2011. There is a steep wooded bluff to one side of the Lane and Possession Sound stretching out in beautiful blue to the other side. The sunsets we see here are spectacular in every season. We watch weather systems come and go where we can see 8 miles out into the shipping lane, the south end of Whidbey Island and the lights of Hansville in front, Edmonds to the South and the picturesque Pacific Queen shipwreck to the North. We are halfway between Edmonds and Mukilteo, so at all times 2 or 3 of our beautiful Washington State Ferries can be seen as they take their passengers from the mainland to Whidbey Island or the Peninsula and back. The home is so close to the water we often feel like we live on a cruise ship. The sound of gently lapping waves is something we will never grow tired of, and when it's stormy the white caps and crashes of the waves breaking on the bulkhead reminds us why the name Wind and Tide was given to this area.

Why they chose this property

This is a beautiful new unit with large windows, 9 foot ceilings, 8 foot doors and elegant but comfortable furnishings. The home is a reverse 3 story, which means the main floor is at street level, and the unit we've created as a guest studio is down a long flight of steps, with its own private exterior access on the 3rd floor deck. The neighborhood is part of The Wind and Tide development, and like most waterfront, has a wide range of unique and interesting homes. When you walk the lane you will see cabin style homes that have been here for 100 years as well as new construction and everything unique in between.

Although we are waterfront, the water and beach is best accessed via the Picnic Point Park which is 1/2 mile to the south. Railroad tracks and a bulkhead that's challenging to navigate separate our property from the water. Also, see the tides website I've included to check for minus tides while you are here. The seafloor here is extremely level, so there are miles of tidepools to explore when the tide is out, but during high tide the only access is Picnic Point Park.

What makes this property unique

Eagles fly past at deck level numerous times a day, and it's common to spy a seal, sea lion or otter as they fish in the shallows. In summer the mother seals leave their pups tucked into the rocks of the bulkhead, but we respect them and give them distance despite their sweet cries. Humpback whales and orcas are sighted year round, and chasing fish in the tide pools during minus tides never gets tiring.
