The Nest at Winnall is a unique, luxury self-catering holiday cottage dating from the early 19th Century, situated close to the beautiful Wyre Forest in the heart of rural Worcestershire, England. The cottage sits adjacent to Winnall House, an imposing Grade II listed Georgian manor farmhouse, and is nestled in a small valley of unspoilt countryside which slopes down to the River Severn.
The Nest has been lovingly restored by its family owners, retaining many period cottage features but with all the modern luxuries you would expect. The interior has a chic retro design feel, with many vintage details, so you can truly 'step back in time' and forget all the stresses of daily life during your stay here.
On your arrival at The Nest, a walled gateway will take you through to your own private, enclosed courtyard garden. The patio area has been made from original quarry tiles reclaimed from the old cottage floor, and with its atmospheric lighting it is just perfect for secluded evening barbeques.
Sleeping up to four people, The Nest at Winnall has two bedrooms - one with a king size bed, the other with twin beds. Both have 1000 pocket sprung mattresses as well as soft cotton goosefeather and down duvets and pillows. One room has views over the private courtyard and the other looks out over the lawns of the main house.
There are two bathrooms in The Nest - a spacious and modern ensuite for the king room and a large family bathroom which also serves as an ensuite for the twin room. This has a roll-top bath and original Victorian washstand. Both bathrooms have fully enclosed showers with vintage-style fittings, heated towel rails and of course... thick, white, fluffy Egyptian cotton towels.
In the large and open plan kitchen diner 1950's fabulousness can be found in the retro-styled appliances and vintage artefacts. Complementing those is a clean and fresh modern fitted kitchen, which contains everything you will need during your stay (electric oven/hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine/tumble dryer, kettle, toaster and also a DAB radio with Bluetooth connection). The midcentury feel has been brought through to the dining area, which has room to seat four people very comfortably.
The cosy double-aspect lounge has a real wood burner fireplace and sumptuous, warm decor. It has a 32" widescreen TV, Freeview and BluRay DVD player and also free Wi-Fi available. On warm summer days the French Doors can be opened out onto a pretty patio which overlooks the lawns of the main house. The retro look is carried through to this room with period-style furniture and original midcentury wall lights.
We love families! We can provide everything you need, including a travel cot/crib, highchair, baby monitor, steriliser, change mat, potty, toilet seat, step stool, bathmat and bed guards. There's a full range of plastic plates, bowls, cups and cutlery, as well as a training cup and bib for the little ones. Of course we also have a collection of childrens books, games, toys and DVDs.
Included in your stay is a really *welcome* Welcome Pack - milk, butter, home-baked bread, free range eggs from our own chickens, home-made jam/chutney, seasonal fruit from the garden (when available), home-baked pie/cake and a bottle of wine.
The Nest at Winnall is the the perfect tranquil oasis from which to explore the beautiful surroundings of Worcestershire, Shropshire and the Cotswolds with ease. Visit our website nestatwinnall.

Simply lovely! The nest lives up to it’s name and gave us a great place to feel at home and visit the area. The home is perfect for families with (small) kids with everything you could think of provided.

A perfect cottage
Everything was just excellent from the welcome to the standard of facilities at the cottage. In over 20 years of staying at cottages in the UK this one was the best, a real 5 star quality.

This is a very comfortable property finished to a very high standard.
We stayed at The Nest for 4 nights and we were extremely happy with the facilities provided. It was extremely quiet location with easy access to local facilities by car.
Everything is provided and we loved the welcome pack. We even visited and bought some wine from the local winery as a result of the wine in the welcome pack.
Karen made sure we wanted for nothing which made for a very comfortable stay.

About the host
Hosted by Karen Bastock
We are the owners of 'The Nest at Winnall' and we moved here to the beautiful Severn Valley 8 years ago. We are lovers of lots of space and fresh air, and so decided to make a lifestyle change to a slower pace of life. Our move was also fuelled by the desire to let our two boys roam free and have more of an adventurous childhood amongst fields, woodland and nature. A new life in the country brought with it the inevitable introduction of animals into the family. Currently we have four chickens (Margo, Belle, Grace & Pearl) and two cats (Bonnie & Clyde). No doubt this list will continue to grow! All our animals are very friendly, and our chickens produce the most amazing bright yellow free-range eggs.
David loves chopping wood, cooking, tackling the garden, mountain biking and a nice dark ale. Karen loves making cakes, bread, jams and chutneys, growing vegetables, chicken-tending, upcycling and a great gin & tonic. As a family we are often walking, biking, having friends over, watching films, reading books and enjoying meals out - when we're not dashing around between swimming clubs, scouts & cubs, basketball and drum lessons... So much for a more relaxed pace of life!
Why they chose this property
The cottage, which is joined to the main house, was in a very poor state of repair when we bought the house and land. It has always been a dream of Karen's to own and run a unique holiday retreat. So we put all our efforts into restoring the cottage and re-naming it 'The Nest' - to reflect this welcoming, luxurious and secluded place, with all its home comforts. Our aim is to look after you, our visitors, so that you can come and relax, enjoy, and have the best possible time during your precious time together.
We can't wait to meet you and your family, and welcome you here soon.
