About this property

Cabin Creek Hide-Away by Letchworth State Park, Waterfalls, Woods, Off Grid.

Our Off-Grid cabin is just 15 min. from Letchworth State Park. Cabin Creek Hide-Away features a secluded, rustic cabin right next to a cascading stream with beautiful waterfalls! With 100 acres of private forest, trails, and abundant wildlife, you can get away from it all, and be alone with just the people you enjoy spending time with! Even though there is no electricity at our cabins, we have provided all the comforts of home (no TV, sorry) including an LP gas refrigerator and heater, solar lighting, on-demand heating for hot water, and a composting toilet in the bathroom.

THE SPACE:
Our cabin is on 100 Acres of private forest with several water falls on a cascading creek!

Terry and I thoroughly clean the cabin ourselves in preparation for your arrival, treating ALL surfaces with anti-bacterial cleaners, including our mattress pad & pillow covers. When you come to our 100 acre private forest, you and your party are the only ones there. Our other cabin is a half a mile away. Your vacation stay here at Cabin Creek continues to offer what few other destinations can.

Our beautiful, knotty-pine cabin is off the grid, with options for rustic living with modern conveniences. The cabin is solar powered which provides convenient 12 volt electricity for lighting and recharging electronics.

An old-time, natural heating wood stove turns the coldest of winter evenings comfortably cozy, but the LP gas furnace offers another convenient option.

Cabin Creek feels like stepping back in time with your favorite people, but with the comforts of an indoor composting toilet, hot showering, and 1/2 size refrigerator powered by LP gas!

Bath towels, wash cloths, and kitchen towels are provided as well as a percolating coffee pot, fully equipped kitchen, firewood for heating the cabin during the winter months, and a small library of outdoor & self-sufficiency books provided. Campfire wood is available for purchase.

We encourage and prefer our guests to bring your own bedding to put over our fresh, clean pillow & mattress covers, but bedding is available at $15/bed, payable on arrival. Please let us know if you are requesting bedding.

Be sure to check out our other cabin on this travel site: CABIN CREEK GETAWAY. It's located one half-mile mile away from this one, perched up on the Southern rim of Cabin Creek Ravine.

Note: During the cold winter months is our Dry Cabin-Camp Shower Season. Due to our exposed plumbing, there is no running water available inside the cabin during the months of October through April. Water is brought in for you, with dispensers provided in both the kitchen and bathroom. A camp shower is provided in the bathroom, and with water heated from the stove, hot showering is still available. Our composting toilet remains unaffected by winter weather.

GUEST ACCESS:

During the winter season, we maintain the road leading to the cabin, so no matter how deep the snow gets, you can drive right in to the secluded site! Our snow removal is provided compliments of John Deere!

Our guests enjoy relaxing so many different ways here: Inside the the beautiful knotty-pine cabin, visiting out on the large covered deck, sitting in front of blazing camp fires, exploring along the half mile of cascading creek & waterfalls, getting out on miles of hiking trails, and seeing the abundant wildlife - 100 acres all to yourself! Adventurers will enjoy going down the 100' climbing rope to view the hidden water falls... the only way to find them!

Note: We do not accept Assistance Animals in our space due to a health/safety condition of one of the hosts. Assistance animals create a health or safety hazard to us.

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted for an orientation to the cabin, the property, area restaurants, and attractions in the surrounding area, which include Letchworth State Park, The Grand Canyon of the East. Dave and Terry live on the farm down in the valley, just a quarter mile away, so we are always available to respond to the needs of guests.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

The very best thing about the neighborhood is that there are no neighbors! The cabin is situated off a seasonal use road, right at the mouth of Cabin Creek ravine. Aside from the occasional vehicle traveling the road, you won't see or hear anyone who is not in your party!
We deliver a wonderful semi-wilderness experience in a rugged area that is sparsely populated and seldom traveled.

We like to joke that the Cabin Creek night-life is dominated by the wildlife... but that's no joke! In addition to the ever-present squirrels, chipmunks & racoon, it is very common to see deer and wild turkey in our forest. The yipping-howls of coyotes are commonly heard after dark while guests sit around the campfire, and seldom-seen bobcats can be heard calling in the night several times a year. Very rare pine martin have been spotted on the property, along with bald eagles & great horned owls. Bears do frequent our area, coming from the 7,700 acre wildlife management area across the valley. Believe us or not, during the 2015 deer season, Eastern Timber Wolves were observed as they passed by 2 different tree stands. Their extreme size and long, low howls heard along the base of the ridge confirmed they were definitely not coyotes! So if you're looking for an experience in a wild area... this is as wild as it gets in the entire Northeast!

FUN ACTIVITIES:

100 foot climbing rope descending to hidden water falls -On your own.
.22 caliber handgun & rifle instruction & target shooting by appointment.
Canoe rentals & river float trips by appointment.

Hot Air Ballooning over Letchworth Park -Outside Vendor
White Water Rafting in Letchworth Park -Outside Vendor
Fishing at Nearby Wildlife Management Area -On your own.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:

Location! Location! The cabin is within an easy twenty minute drive to so many great attractions: Letchworth State Park the Grand Canyon of the East, Stony Brook State Park, Swain Mountain Ski Resort, The Mount Morris Dam, and 7,000 acres of State Wildlife Management Area. Wine country tours start within an easy 40 minute drive, and Niagara Falls is a little over an hour and a half away!

GETTING AROUND:

Cabin Creek is in a rural area. Guests will need their own vehicle to get from the cabin to state route 70, from which all area attractions are easily accessed.

Cabin Creek Hide-Away

We loved the cabin and location. We visited Letchworth State Park and Stoney Brooke State Park. They were worth the drive from NJ. The cabin was beautiful and had everything we needed. The compose toilet was no issue. I would definitely stay again.

An adventure

We loved the cabin in the woods. Unfortunately it was extremely difficult to get to and our first attempt was not successful. Ended up backing down a steep road to get out. We ended up going a different way and did make it. We also were hoping to see some type of wildlife but only heard birds. Finally, we were disappointed that the water only got warm and therefore the dishes did not get washed in hot water.

Magical stay in the woods

Wonderful experience for us on our 42nd anniversary. The cottage is a beautiful hideaway in the woods...it's equipped with everything needed and is clean..impeccable. The woods are alive with sounds. The large porch is perfect. We loved every minute. Our host David was so helpful. Much to see in the surrounding area. We highly recommend this getaway!!

It was a true hide-away

The cabin was quaint and cozy with everything that we needed. David was a wealth of information including telling us how to get the trails to hike. It was a peaceful way to begin our unplugged vacation. Sadly we did not see any bears, coyotes or deer. If you in the area certainly take the time to visit Letchworth State Park.

Beautiful, quiet cabin stay

My husband and I spent 4 nights in the cabin (late June). It was better than we expected! The shower was nice and hot with great water pressure! There was also convenient lighting around the cabin, but had the option to use candlelight as well. We spent a lot of time sitting on the porch and by the campfire listening to the wildlife. Some nice hiking around the property and very close to the Letchworth State Park. The hosts are very responsive and wonderful to chat with. We had intermittent phone service, but that was definitely for the best!

Everything it claims to be + excellent hospitality.

We had a fantastic stay at the cabin. It is off grid, but with modern conveniences of light, indoor plumbing, hot water on demand and refrigeration. "Modern rustic". Comfortable indoor accomodations and very spacious porch that we would have used more as living space but for an unseasonable cold snap. The property itself is a gem with scenic topography (from the gorgeous giant cabin windows), perfect fall colors, secluded hiking, and a feeling of wilderness. Our host was attentive, responsive, and effortlessly friendly. We felt he was truly committed to making our stay the best it could be. Nearby Letchworth is one of the prettiest parks ever. The natural beauty is amazing, and the man made and historical features and infrastructure are timeless.

Peaceful bliss!

This cabin had everything that we wanted and so much more. We unplugged ourselves and enjoyed Dave and Terry’s wonderful property. No electricity, no problem. The solar lights really surprised us with the amt of light they gave off. We thoroughly enjoyed hiking the property, although we have to admit climbing the rope down the ravine was not our “cup of tea”. Sitting outside late at night enjoying the spectacular star display is something us “city folk” don’t have access to. We are sure we will be back to this cabin, and look forward to another few days of unplugged happiness. Thanks again Dave and Terry for sharing this beautiful property with us.

Beautiful cabin tucked away in a quiet peacful setting.

The Cabin Creek Hide-Away exceeded our expectations. Having rented other cabins, we found this one to be larger, cleaner, more comfortable, and better equipped than any others. The large windows let in lots of light and nice views of the trees. The large front porch is fantastic, it allowed us to enjoy the outdoors even on a rainy day. Each night was spent sitting by a campfire, with a sky full of stars, and fireflies dancing in the trees. You can play your music and nobody will complain, or turn it off and just enjoy the sounds of the forest. Within a short drive are state parks, swimming spots, and lots of small towns to visit and explore. In four days we ran out of time before finishing off our list of adventures. If you are looking for a cabin with some peace, quiet, seclusion, and in a beautiful nature environment, then we highly recommend this spot.

We had a great time getting away and off the grid for a bit! I did go through withdrawal from my cell, but then it made me focus on the beautiful scenery. The cabin was up high on a mountain, so make sure you have an all wheel drive vehicle. Had hot showers and a nice kitchenette with small frig. The big windows near the comfy bed was the best! There is a DD near by for your coffee fix too! But I learned how to use the old coffee perculator on the stove. Will be coming back soon!

My husband and I are professionals who both love the great outdoors! We have come to love everything that Cabin Creek has to offer with its beautiful forest, cascading stream, 3 waterfalls, abundant wildlife, and rugged terrain. Whether we're hiking, riding our horses, or 4 wheeling on the trails, we absolutely love it here! As much as we enjoy the beauty of God's creation that He blessed us with, we didn't feel right about keeping it all to ourselves. So, we invite you to come and enjoy it with us!

Why they chose this property

It's so close to home, and there really is no place quite like it! Our "Hide-Away" is so secluded amongst the hemlock trees, and it's nice being there all alone together. The deep woods are so peaceful, the sound of the stream cascading over the rocks is relaxing, and the waterfalls are simply beautiful! Then, as we go hiking, there's always the excitement of seeing deer, wild turkey, bald eagles, owls, pine martin, raccoons, and those ever-present squirrels! At night, we can hear the calls of coyotes, and even a bobcat once in a while!

What makes this property unique

Cabin Creek Hide-Away provides you with PEACE, PRIVACY and FREEDOM... 3 things that have to be enjoyed together, and are seldom found anywhere but the deep forest! Out here, our night-life is dominated by the wildlife!
