Jim’s house worked great for a few of us to stay on a family wedding weekend. Jim was very responsive before and during our stay. The home itself has plenty of room to spread out (there were 8 of us one night and 10 of us the second night). The exterior of the home needs attention and yard maintenance and upkeep. Kitchen is very well stocked.

Liked the fence yard but it was all dirt and no grass. But it worked fine for our dogs. Nice TV area, good kitchen and beds were comfortable. Plenty of room.

This house is absolutely beautiful! There was plenty of room for all of us, and we really enjoyed our time there. It was also an excellent location, because we could use the lake, and there was also a playground kitty corner from the house for our grandchildren.

Christmas Getaway

We had a wonderful time at Friedhem being able to spend time with family during a challenging time with my husband's health issues. It was great to be close to downtown Lindstrom and walk through town during our stay. I was able to get to Mass on foot on Christmas Eve. It was a beautiful night and we felt safe. We keep talking about the wonderful memories that were made. We were plenty warm and had more than enough space in the home to spread out. Thank you for a memorable Christmas celebration at The House of Peace!!

Great spot for family gathering

We had grandparents to grandchildren stay at this house and it was a nice, big space to gather and enjoy meals and time together, while also having separate sleeping "wings" for each family! Loved the charm of the older home and walkability to the park nearby, and how close it was to the City. Only drawback was the backyard and steps down to the dock - not for the elderly set or handicapped, but the cantilevered deck overlooking the lake was nice. Thank you for a wonderful time and lifelong memories!

Quintessential MInnesota Lake House

Everything you would expect from a historic Minnesota lake house. Plenty of room for everyone to gather. Easy, sandy bottom lake access. The kids and grandkids all had a great time. We just wish we would have stayed longer. We were having such a good time at the house, we never took the time to explore the town!

Beautiful house and great location!

First off, the host was very accommodating and was prompt and detailed when answering my questions. Check in was very easy and there was a book of information to help with any questions around the house or about local things to do. The house is beautiful and was fun to stay in! Us girls (We stayed for a girls night) did some local things during the day and then had a nice homemade dinner out on the porch and did a bonfire later. Definitely would recommend this stay!

Perfect family gathering on the lake!

This charming yellow historic house has so many nice areas to hang out. We were a little surprised at the "rustic" feel to it and the original main level is showing its age. But once we got used to the decor and all adults staying with us got settled, we quickly made it our home. The property is perfect for family gatherings around the kitchen or on the porch or by the fire or on the deck overlooking the lake. I would suggest this house for any season booking as it has all year charm and room for 6 adults easily! Thanks to the hosts for providing our perfect VRBO getaway.

Charming historic house

The house met our expectations. It was conveniently located, tidy, and spacious. We had rain during our stay and were very thankful we had the spacious house during our stay. The house was stocked with pretty much everything we needed during our stay. Jim was very easy and nice to work with. We would recommend to friends or family if they are in the area again.

We love the spaciousness and charm of Fridhem!

We had our second annual “Rosettes” weekend at Fridhem and we recently booked our third! We have a large group of ladies and children, and there was comfort for all. We took kids down the block to the park and playground. We shopped the darling Lindstrom shops. We dined at Gustaf’s and had flights of wine at Winehaven. Everyone had a great time. Perfect for our needs!

The Yellow House

After planning to come to the yellow house in 2020, but being unable to, we were delighted to make it there this year! A lovely house on the lake with the perfect deck for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. Lovely bedrooms that gave everyone a relaxing place to escape to, and a well equipped kitchen to make cooking a joy! Thanks Jim!

Lovely stay

We just had the most wonderful weekend at this beautiful home. It was spacious, clean, and the accommodations were perfect for our family. The bedrooms were large and they were two gathering spaces inside the house that accommodated our large group. The outdoor space was amazing. A large deck overlooked the lake and there was a quiet spot for an evening fire. There was plenty of green space for my grandkids to toss around the football and a fenced yard for the two small dogs we brought with us. We loved it and we hope to stay here again.

Daughters wedding

What a wonderful stay! We were able to accommodate family & friends whom helped celebrate our daughters wedding. All the bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. The kitchen had everything, as well as well marked so you could find things. We especially enjoyed the deck & our morning coffees as well as our evening social hour. Absolutely spectacular view of the lake! Jim, the owner was very quick with responses to any of my questions leading up to our stay. We would absolutely come back!

Historic experience!

Jim was very responsive with all our questions. If you are looking for everything to be perfect, this might not be a property for you. This is a historic home with lots of character. Everything works well, no issues. Worked perfect for our group of 11. Plenty of bedrooms to allow everyone their own space. Beds are dated, and are fine, but are not the newest on the market today. Outdoor space is fantastic with a deck overlooking the lake with plenty of seating and grills. Fire pit separate with plenty of seating. Would definately consider staying here again if we were in the area.

House worked perfectly for us!

We loved the character of the house and the roominess. We had a great time. The owner was responsive and ensured our stay was pleasant. The website is a bit misleading on the actual available beds. There are only 2 beds (1 king, 1 queen) on the main floor, the upstairs has 1 king, and 2 full size beds. There is not a sleep sofa/futon in the 2nd floor sitting area (or any place in the home). There is however, plenty of room for air mattress beds if needed. We would rent this house again! Thank you!

About the host

Hosted by Jim Casey

Host profile image
Caryn and Jim Casey have been married for 40 years (as of 2022). We have two grown daughters, three rescue dogs and two grand-dogs. We love Lindstrom and being at the lake as a contrast to our busy lives in Burbank, CA. Jim has a background in architecture and sells real estate in California.

Why they chose this property

It was love at first sight. We found the house quite by accident. Jim was doing research comparing different real estate websites back in 1999 for a seminar he was giving to a real estate board in Florida. Jim was an internationally recognized technology speaker and trainer in the real estate industry just as the internet and digital technology was changing the real estate business. Our dream house scenario was an older home with wrap around porches on a lake and within 45 minutes of the Twin Cities. Fridhem popped up on his computer screen and the family jumped in the car and drove to the property more out of curiosity than anything else. When we walked up the front sidewalk we were captivated. Because of the original condition of the home and the unfinished attic we knew we could make this a special home for our family and for our retirement (you can live entirely on the first floor if necessary). That same year our two daughters announced their dreams of acting so we packed them up and took them to Burbank to attend school and audition for television and film. Jim spent over a year remodeling the home and commuting back and forth to California until the whole family returned for summer vacation. We never imagined we'd be turning the house into a vacation rental, but it has been a wonderful experience for us sharing the house and still getting to enjoy it throughout the year.

What makes this property unique

Walk to downtown on our tree lined street and enjoy privacy and incredible views of the lake from our large deck. The house is large and yet features lots of little, intimate spaces to congregate or enjoy some alone time. Live in an historic home with all the amenities you'd expect from a 5 star hotel including an exercise room, free WIFI and a smart TV for your Netflix and Amazon Prime viewing pleasure. With a local winery, many restaurants, antique shopping, nearby trails, tennis courts and golf, not to mention the wonderful lake and trophy fishing, everyone can find something to pass the time. Fridhem is a local treasure which everyone in the community has heard stories about in its over 120+ year history. We purposely do NOT rent the house for large events like weddings because we feel it is best for family get togethers and quiet vacations. Our friendly neighbors are there when you need them, but will give you your privacy. We hope you will treat them with the same friendly respect!
