About this property

Beautiful, Peaceful Lakefront Home in woods. Canoe, Kayaks, ATV trail access.

****************🚭 property****************

Loon’s Nest is truly a peaceful lakefront country setting, in the woods with ATV and snowmobile trail access, located 20 minutes from Dover-Foxcroft in central Maine, about an hour from either Moosehead Lake or Bangor. It is “The Way Life Should Be” with early sunrises and gorgeous sunsets with 125’ of pristine water frontage. It is a very clean and well appointed; beautiful, lakeside, Timber Frame home with all Hemlock wood interior that proudly displays “Old World Craftsmanship.” It is well maintained, very comfortable and calming with plenty of room for all. It has been newly furnished with exquisite and thoughtful touches throughout, including high-end furniture and appliances. A true gem in the heart of nature that offers all the comforts of home (including WiFi) and some extras.

Master has a charming wood stove near the Amish made king bed w/adjustable base to raise head/feet to your liking. Matching armoire and two chests of drawers are also in this room. A large window lets you wake up to the beautiful lake view to start your day off right, which also allows for the harmony and gentle symphony of crickets, owls, tree and bullfrogs with the mystical sounds of loons in at night. Indulge in catching up with some reading or just rest, unwind and enjoy a nap in the power recliner w/optional heat, adjustable headrest, and rolling back massagers, outlooking the picturesque window onto the lake. Master also has a 65” 4K smart TV w/sound bar & 4K Blu-Ray dvd player as well as a convenient door that opens to the back porch. Master bath features a jacuzzi tub w/plenty of jets and partial seat built in to the side.

Living room offers a leather sofa that has a pullout queen bed & upgraded mattress. All wood with cathedral ceilings and large windows to let plenty of light in with gorgeous views of the lake. The magnificent stone fireplace invites you to build warm and cozy memories as you snuggle with loved ones. There are several indoor board games for the evenings. Oil is the main source of heat with convenient thermostats for those chilly months.

Updated kitchen has everything you would expect & more for all of your cooking/serving needs w/stainless steel appliances* and easy pull out shelves to facilitate storage & reaching pots, pans, and smaller appliances.

Appliances/extras: (2) XL pots for cooking lobsters, crock pot, Instant Pot/Quick Pot (rice cooker/steamer/etc.), 4-slice toaster, coffee grinder, espresso machine & tamper, coffee pot, electric kettle. Whole beans and ground coffee are complementary. Theater style popcorn machine (popcorn is complimentary). This home has exceptional water from a private well with a “1 micron whole house filter”, changed very regularly.

Second floor:
Queen bedroom has an adjustable base w/a massaging (more like vibrating) option and charging ports on both sides, a 43” smart TV w/Blu-Ray/dvd player, a comfortable rocking chair, two skylights, and a Juliet balcony.

Twin room has a daybed, a trundle bed, 42” smart TV w/DVD player, and one skylight.

Both rooms have railings and overlook the living room. Please be extra careful in stockings on the stairs. *Please note that this home has animal furs and hides.

Outside: 💐

Back porch features rustic rockers & zero gravity chairs. Off the back porch are two picnic tables and a Traeger smoker/grill. (Pellets for the Traeger are complimentary and in the basement.) You’ll find three “stacking racks” in the kitchen to be used in the Traeger for larger quantities of ribs so that juices and sauce do not drip off.

Outdoor lawn games include; croquet, lawn darts, corn hole and frisbee.

The fire pit at the water’s edge is a perfect place to gather around and bond with loved ones to better connect with family and nature. It has a large grill for over the fire cooking or leave the grill off & just roast some renown “Maine red hot dogs” or complimentary s’mores ( plenty of roasting sticks are provided ). In the mornings; the spring fed, mirror-like lake reflects the sunrise and foliage with the fragrant smells of nature. The evenings reflect God’s glory in the moon and stars, with the sound of crickets, fish jumping and the majestic loons.

Interested in “flying” into tourist mode? Make this your peaceful home “nest” to come back to after a day of serious shopping at the outlet stores in Bangor (45 min. drive, where Steven King lives) or Kittery (3 hr drive), a trip through Acadia National Park & visit to Bar Harbor (just over 2 hr drive), or head to Greenville & Moosehead Lake (51 min drive), Maine’s largest lake, beautiful, & moose outnumber people 3:1! Do some hiking, sightseeing tours/flights (try a moose safari) or some other summertime fun activities (moose safari and whitewater rafting gets our vote)! Wild Acadia fun park is another great place to take the children. There are several “U-pick” farms in the general area for seasonal, organic produce.

Leave for day trips and come back to relax & recharge at the peaceful “nest,” or enjoy your entire vacation here to unwind, play and rest; escape the stresses and pace of a busy life. Pack in your food with a favorite bottle of wine and you may find it difficult to go out to dinner or step away from the beauty and tranquility that this home offers. Paddle or row the canoe (3 person) or take a kayak (1 single and one tandem) out to fish (4 poles provided) or skip the fishing and just soak up the calming beauty, day or night. Have fun in the clean and clear water on any of the several floaty lake toys. Two hammocks in the yard for outdoor leisure and naps, one doubles as a two person hanging chair swing. If you’re an early riser, you may just see a moose—we have! (Dawn & dusk are the best times of day to see them—we’ve seen moose twice on our road, less that a half mile away!) The gravel road is just over 2 miles and is wonderful for beautiful and quite, peaceful walks, jogging or bicycles. We often see chipmunks, rabbits and deer during the day and with a flashlight, you may spot a porcupine or moose after dark. We have seen moose day and night. The majestic bald eagles, Osprey, turtles, weasels, ducks, Great Blue Herons and loons, of course, are regulars on the pond. (If you are interested in bird watching, go a step further & a Sibley’s guidebook for North American birds is on the bookshelf and binoculars are provided.

Swimming is always at your own risk. Life jackets/preservers are provided in various sizes, as well as beach towels for lake use. We offer a shallow wading area that is great for the whole family (water shoes are beneficial), with access from the shore or steps from the 40’ x 12’ dock.

Linens & towels are provided. If you forget anything, there are local stores in Dover-Foxcroft, just 9 miles away (Shaws grocery store, 20 minutes). Paper towels, dish soap/detergent, laundry detergent, softener sheets, TP, and hand soaps are provided.

*Plenty of wood for the fire pit, fireplace, and wood stove is all complimentary.

Four fishing poles are provided but the tackle is not, please bring your own and don’t forget the bug spray.

Loon’s Nest
We recently enjoyed some quality family time at this stunning lakefront home for the 4th year in a row. We’re hesitant to share how wonderful it is because we’d like to keep it our secret! The home is private and quiet with quality furnishings. Very comfortable beds and furniture. Everything you need is there including special touches like a basket of hand towels with toothbrushes, razors, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner etc. It was warm and cozy for a November vacation and looks like the perfect summer vacation spot with fire pit and dock with kayaks and canoes. We would definitely recommend this property for a rental.

My husband, Darrol, is from Salem, Oregon. After high school, he spent 4 years in college (culinary student) and then spent about 16 years as a chef in San Francisco (yes, I have my own personal chef)! In 1996 he made a career change to gain benefits/retirement for himself & family. Darrol has been a peace officer since, and will retire in December of 2021, so we will be living on the west coast until then.

I am from Bangor, ME, where I grew up in foster care from the age of 10. Accustomed to moving every so often, it was fitting that I married an Airman in 1990. I’ve lived all over this country and spent four years in Misawa, Japan. Our final base was Beale AFB, which is how I became stuck on the west coast, and where, a few years after I was divorced, I met my personal chef, AKA my husband.

Why they chose this property

Short story: We found our retirement home that we love.

Longer story: My husband had never traveled much, outside of the west coast, until I brought him to Maine in 2016. He hasn’t been the same since (nor have I). The people, especially, have influenced him greatly, as well as the beauty of having four distinct seasons (he can’t wait until we can ice fish on our pond and snowmobile from our house to town). So, following that initial trip, we became students of Realtor.com! We had been looking to retire in Montana or northern Idaho but our trip to Maine that summer was an emotional “homecoming” for me. Tears started flowing (unexpectedly) as we drove from Boston up RR1, along the coast...and I’d never lived on the coast. I didn’t realize, until then, how much I missed the ocean, the architecture New England, and the people. Especially the people (hospitality, friendliness, integrity). I also have two older brothers, given up for adoption at birth, that retired back to Maine, and two “sisters” I’ve reclaimed. Life is about relationships. We do our best but it is difficult to cultivate relationships from opposite sides of the continent.

We prayed about finding the right property for us. We had to LOVE it, afford it, and be willing to sacrifice until retirement, if we found it prior to retirement. We found we could purchase a home w/land, or a home w/water (w/in our budget). Water won out. In the interest of retirement, it made more practical sense...less to take care of as we age.

This home was the last we looked at on our list that year; it wasn’t even on our list (thanks Deb)! We went by ourselves to look & see if we wanted to schedule a tour before we left. I stepped onto the dock & a Blue Heron flew over & landed on the dock about five feet in front of me. He looked straight at us, examining & tilting his head back and forth. After a minute or two, he flew off. This experience combined w/the loons calling out, made us sure that this home was worth it!

What makes this property unique

Our next door neighbors are the BEST! They are the last house on our road and have been above and beyond in helping us get settled, keep an eye on the house, and have even helped & answered questions from some of our guests.

We have a housekeeping crew as well as a property manager on call at all times if any issues/problems arise. We want our guests to leave happy, with a desire to return.

We have some fun & unique water floating toys and four nice-quality floating lounge chairs. (For the kids, envision a teeter totter and a “hamster wheel”).

Location is great...grocery stores, shops, and dining. Close enough to Moosehead (largest lake in Maine), Mt Katadin (Maine’s largest mountain and one end of the Appalachian Trail), and Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor to take day trips for hiking, sightseeing, river rafting, biking, shopping, and/or eating (my favorite)!
