Casa de los Leones is a guest suite with a southwest flavor (approx 800 sf) attached to the main residence, but with a separate entrance and private patio. It contains a living room, queen bedroom/bath, and kitchenette, and ample parking, located on 3 acres. It is an oasis nestled at the foot of the Tucson Mountain Range, boasting views of distinctive Sombrero peak, city lights to the east, sparkling night skies and incredible desert vistas and privacy. The kitchenette does not have a stove. It does have a microwave, toaster oven, crock pot and electric skillet. There is also access to an outdoor BBQ. The pool is located in the back of the house and is available for guest use. It is not heated, however. We have abundant wildlife roaming the area. It is not unusual to be visited by a squad of Javelina, coyotes, an occasional deer, sometimes a bobcat and numerous birds . We are pet friendly, but do encourage pet owners to remain with pets outside due to the wildlfe. Since we are located at the base of the Saguaro National Park, hiking and biking is close by. Numerous golf courses are also available. And the driving distance to downtown is actually about :20 minutes .

Our stay was enjoyable and relaxing. The view of the Tucson Valley is beautiful at night and the landscaping around the home is very tasteful. Sonya is a great hostess and we appreciated her knowledge of the area. Thank you Sonya for your hospitality

Many things about this stay were great. Sonya was a very welcoming, thoughtful host. The space available is quite comfortable and beautifully furnished. And the location is lovely--with lovely desert landscaping and near to the national park.

Best Wishes, Sonya
The location of the apartment was wonderful. There are 68 saguaros on the property. It is near so many great hikes, Saguaro National Park west, Desert Museum and not far from downtown. Sonya was a gracious host giving us access to her home and even offering to make us dinner when we arrived. We will definitely stay there again!
Sonya was very accommodating. The casita was clean and fully stocked. The bed was comfortable. The dogs had plenty of room to stretch their legs. This property is outside of the hustle and bustle of town, but still close enough to drive to! We would stay here again.

This place exceeded our expectations. It is clean, cozy, and the property is breath-taking. It's so close to Saguaro Nat'l Park, it feels like you are staying in the park, but with all the creature comforts. I couldn't stop taking pictures of the property, it's just so gorgeous. Great place to enjoy a sunrise and sunset and see wildlife. Hanging by the pool in her epic garden is amazing. The host is very friendly and helpful, and offered to make us food, which we took her up on the morning before we left (and it was delicious). She even gave us a basket of citrus fruit from her garden... so sweet! Just an overall incredible experience.

I had a lovely stay. The location is great, I loved seeing the local wildlife, and Sonya is a great host. It is a location with smoking, which I didn't notice when I booked it.
Sonya was a wonderful host and a fascinating person to chat with, and she provides a lovely space/property for some desert relaxation. We'd definitely book with her again!

My husband and I loved this location - out of town but convenient to everything we wanted to see and do. Sitting on the patio and listening to the sound of the water feature while enjoying the sights and smells of the desert was wonderful! Sonya was extremely friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of towels and other amenities.

the rental was fairly easy to get to the first time, not knowing where we were. Couldn't ask for a nicer, more accommodating landlord. If anything would arise, it was taken care immediately. We got the pleasure of spending time with Sonya and given various destinations she thought we might enjoy. We were here for 47 days and enjoyed every of them. We had all the privacy we wanted.
I loved that it was quiet and away from the fast pace of town. You could watch the birds and other critters that would wander by. There was space for my dog to play. The owner loved my dog and tried to spoil him! He loved her back! Sonya was very helpful if I needed anything and was a delight to be around.

Hi Nora
I so enjoyed your stay here. And I hope that whenever you return to Tucson, you'll come back, and of course bring Brodie, who is a total delight....and Mike too....and Vickie as well. I still haven't received your card, but will forward it on to you as soon as it arrives. Take care and stay safe.
We arrived as strangers to be met by two very friendly and hospitable women who showed us and our two cats to a cozy comfortable studio apartment with everything we needed, including a private patio overlooking the desert and mountains -- it was wonderful -- and because we stayed two months we were able to enjoy the location and the surrounding activites to the full. As I said, we arrived as strangers but left as friends.

Very comfortable casita with great access to Saguaro NP!
My wife and I enjoyed 3 lovely nights at the Southwest Casita Oasis while spending our days hiking in Saguaro NP and Madera Canyon. Sonya was an excellent hostess, showing us our home away from home and answering all of our questions. The bed, couch, and chair were all very comfortable; the kitchen area fully equipped; the TV was large; there was a library of really cool books, and the overall experience was one we really enjoyed, especially after a day on the trail! Highly recommended!

This was the cutest little casita. It was decorated so cute. The bed was just right, the bathroom (although small) was very nice, and the kitchen area had everything we needed. The host, Sonya, was such a friendly, helpful and interesting person. She even offered to do our laundry for us - "just put in the the hamper by the door and I'll be glad to do it for you." How nice is that? Unfortunately, we had more than 3 loads between the 2 of us, so we opted for the laundromat to get it all done at once. We saw javalina wandering around and saw the hummingbirds too. There was other wildlife, but we were so busy with attending wedding functions, we didn't really get to spend much time enjoying it. We would stay here again, if we are in Tucson.

Loved our stay. Hoping to see wildlife, we saw coyotes (2) in first five minutes. Pool was awsome, and location couldn't be beat. Sonya was a great host. She had excellent suggestions and even offered to do our laundry. When we come back to Tucson we will stay hear again.
Sonya was a wonderful host. She provided restaurant recommendations, nearby hikes and other activities to do in the area. It is the perfect location to be right outside of the city. Super close to the national park and other hikes. We had a great time.
This was an awesome place to stay! My dogs and I enjoyed this place so much! It is close to whatever you’re wanting to do! Minutes from trails, shopping, and food! Sonya was an amazing host and so helpful and sweet!! If I am ever able to make it back to Tucson I am definitely going to look this up again!!

About the host
Hosted by Sonya Dougherty
I have been working as a realtor, serving the Tucson area, for the past 16 years. Prior to that I was in the airline industry for over 35 years as a Flight Attendant, Purser, and various management positions. While flying, my travels generally took me to Europe, the middle east, the U.S., and occasionally the far east. I commuted to New York to fly international from Tucson for about 13 years. My husband (who was a pilot) and I both worked for Trans World Airlines. It was back in the glory days when flying was still fun for everyone! I was born in St Wolfgang, Austria and came to the US as a child, but still return there frequently and I'm still fluent in German (but with an Austrian accent/dialect). I have been widowed now for over nine years. It was then that I decided to open a portion of my home to guests as a vacation rental. During my own travels, my husband and I usually stayed in B&B operations or small Inns which we so enjoyed and afforded us the opportunity to get to know the local people better. This inspired me to do the same for visitors coming to the US and the southwest. I've lived in Tucson for 29 years now since coming from the San Francisco Bay area and am very familiar with the sights of the southwest, restaurants and tourist attractions, as well as our local golf courses. I'm happy to share that information. I have two adorable indoor cats which live in the main house, Sadie and Felix. And currently, I have a housemate, Colleen, who is also a widow and friend (and also a realtor). If you decide you want to stay permanently, I'm happy to sell you a house!
Why they chose this property
Here at casa de los Leones, you have the feel of the country and the serenity it provides, but you are only approximately :10min from the freeway with easy access to downtown, the Saguaro National Park, and a variety of golf courses. There is an abundance of wildlife which inhabits my property, such as Javalina, Bobcats, Quail, Coyotes, numerous birds and an occasional deer. There are stunning mountain views as well as city lights. It feels like a nature preserve. This is why I love living here, and I think you will enjoy visiting here. I am surrounded by stately Saguaros(cactus) on my property, which grow only in the Sonoran desert. The properties here back up to the National Saguaro Park. Wade Road winds around to Picture Rocks and then over the pass into the Park which is home to the famous Desert Museum and Old Tucson (where many of the western movies were filmed). It's truly a southwest gem.
What makes this property unique
Beauty of the environment and the natural wildlife is the most unique benefit. While floating in the pool (during warm months) you are immersed in this habitat. There are nearby hiking/biking trails....and horses too, if you are so inclined. I have some horses next door as a matter of fact......but they aren't available for riding. And then there is the "hostess with the most-ess" !
