About the host
Hosted by Mandy
Welcome to Kalinya Estate. My husband Chris and I bought the Estate as a country escape for our family nearly 20 years ago and discovered a passion for hosting and building relationships. My background as a Clinical Psychologist provided a blueprint to fostering such relationships and encouraging others in a similar way. Consequently, to promote meaningful connections, we offer an un-rushed experience through a 2-night minimum stay.
Chris and I love sport and music, so the estate grew over the years to be the ultimate family playground. Our hope is that Kalinya will bring your family and friends closer, that they will have the time of their lives using all of the facilities and spending quality time together.
Chris and I moved to Bargo to get away from the city, to enjoy the best of rural living with our family. I am a Clinical Psychologist by background, and love spoiling and looking after people. We set up Kalinya to cater for large extended family or friendship groups. We love that there is plenty to do at Kalinya for anyone who stays; from the old to the very young, from the active sportsman, to one who enjoys a good book.
Why they chose this property
Kalinya Estate is located in the village of Bargo in the Wollondilly Shire- The gateway to the Southern Highlands. The Wollondilly neighbourhood is a beautiful scenic rural area. Lots of large properties, farms and undisturbed Australian bushland. The area is still full of honest country people who delight in having visitors come to enjoy their unique villages.
Kalinya Estate is ideally located just 2.1kms from the M31 Hume Motorway. A 60 minute drive from Sydney CBD, and 10-30 minutes to Mittagong, Bowral and Berima. 1 minute to the local shops, train station and pub.
This region is blessed with 2,560 square kilometres or fresh air, rolling hills, native wildlife and unspoilt bushland.
Animal lovers can discover our very own Australian Wildlife Sanctuary and experience getting close and personal to some Aussie natives like the Wombat, Kangaroo and Quokka. Next door you can also learn about the resident Dingos at the Bargo Dingo Sanctuary. Nature enthusiasts can rejoice with a hike in the great outdoors, picnic at one of our national parks or a visit to one or all of our five iconic dams.
Foodies love our charming country cafes, popular bakeries, authentic restaurants and historic pubs. Sip on a coffee over brunch, treat your taste buds with freshly baked goods, sample a locally grown produce or stop in for a gourmet lunch.
Enjoy leisurely browsing a range of unique small-scale boutiques and shops that offer one of a kind keepsakes, trinkets, giftware, apparel and more that you won’t find anywhere else.
Amazing growers and suppliers surround the Estate, so you can experience the freshness first hand! Our working farms, orchards and cellar doors are open for you to pick, taste and take home delicious local produce. Experience berry picking, fruit picking, flower farms, beer, spirits, cider and more.
What makes this property unique
Kalinya Estate is an Australian Colonial, heritage-listed, luxury Estate; offering exclusive high-end accommodation at a private acreage for groups. With sporting, musical and recreation facilities catering to guests of all ages, it offers opportunities for work, relaxation, entertainment and more. The Estate’s accommodation features three separate buildings, The Homestead, The Lodge and The Barn, all of which are a short stroll from each other through the gardens. All three spaces have been magnificently restored, with all of the quality modern updated fixtures you need. Kalinya Estate is a private venue, taking only one group at a time.
‘The Homestead’ is one of few original Australian Colonial Mansions- 1860's Victorian Georgian. This house is where all of the guests staying on the estate gather to share meals, due to the large entertaining spaces.
'The Lodge' was the original medical centre for the whole region- originally name Emohruo.
'The Barn' was originally used to build submarines and after that was used to care for champion dressage horses.
Kalinya Estate is located in the rural town of Bargo within the Wollondilly and welcomes its guests on the land of the Dharawal people. We aim to honour their culture and love for the environment, whilst showing respect to their elders past, present and emerging. ‘Kalinya’ is itself an Aboriginal word, which translates to ‘good, beautiful and honest’; the intention at Kalinya being to reflect these words in conduct and interactions.
Kalinya Estate is entirely unique because of the high end sporting and musical offerings. There is plenty to do for everyone, no matter what the weather is. In the squash court, you can play racquetball, squash or handball. There is a 17m fully tiled heated pool and a therapeutic hot tub. Use the gym, foosball, billiards, table tennis, air hockey, or vintage arcade games. There is a piano lounge with a concert grand piano. Enjoy the ducks, chickens, orchard, and natural pond ecosystem.
