A lovely place to stay. An absolute stunning view over the bay across the Aegean sea to the isle of spetses. My wife and me used the place as base to exploring the peloponnes but it absolute lovely to stay there and explore the area. To get to the place is a quite bit of a challenge. A 6 min. Hill walk from the town Square or drive around on the half hill on a bumpy washed out dirt road. Definitely helpful to have an old jeep or something. Not the best for our old Civic. So we desided to take the walk. Elisabeth the owner was very helpful and lovely and we hope to get back in a few years.

A beautiful place to get away from it all

A colourful, charming house with a very homely feel and stunning views. Great for watching both sunrise and the stars. We enjoyed the area around the house, the local taverna (including its weekend souvlaki nights) and tavernas beside the nearby beaches (we particularly loved Livadi). A daytrip down the Mani peninsula was just about manageable (and definitely worth it), and the town and ruins of Mystra were beautiful. Highly recommended!

Exceptional authentic accommodation

This wonderful house is recommended to anyone looking for authentic accommodation in the midst of a mountain village. The terraced garden with its Mediterranean plants and the refreshing pool make even the July heat bearable. Only rarely is the absolute tranquillity interrupted by the neighing of a donkey or the nightly howling of a few golden jackals. Numerous secluded beaches and villages are within easy reach by car, as are the towns of Tyros and Leonidi, where things are a little more turbulent. Elizabeth is an extremely friendly and caring host who responds promptly to all requests and has lots of good tips. We thank her very much for her hospitality and will definitely come back.

A place of natural beauty

Situated in a great location, The villa itself was fully equipped with everything you need for day to day living, but you must understand this property, which is at the top of a mountain village, is simple, but spacious, with a rustic feel. Elizabeth is a great communicator, who is more than happy to answer any questions at anytime, and is always available to support if needed. Pay attention to the directions given to find the house, especially if using the road less travelled that takes you to the back of the property. It’s a drive that needs calm and confidence, as does the short walk on the sloping path down to the back of house. Whilst it may feel at first like a long way up, it’s worth every effort! If peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle is what your looking for this is a great place to be. The location gives you the best of both the mountains and the sea. There are a plethora of stunning beaches to choose from if you can ever pull yourself away from the sensational unspoilt views from the terrace and the pool at the property. Ideal place for couples, families or friends that are looking for a place to unwind, relax and have a truly peaceful break.
House and terrace area from the back gate.
Sampatiki beach, 10 minute drive from the house. Quiet, calm and warm waters, perfect for families.
Morning view from the top terrace, perfect for a morning coffee

Phantastic view - but with a few compromises

Traditional stone house, in a lovely little village, high above sealevel. The walk up the hill is truly exhausting, but ok we had been warned abaout that upfront. There is no local co-host on the ground to meet and greet you, so you will have to find your way on your own based on the route description, which has some flaws - in particular the house number was nowhere to be found... Once found, the house offers a spectacular seaview indeed. On the lower end of the experience: The beds are either very worn out and soft (master bedroom) or very hard and totally unflexible (other bedrooms). The interior is decorated more in the style of a provencal countryhome than typically greek, so it reminds a little of that Coldplay song: It was all yellow :-) Lots of cushions and carpets give it a cosy feel. The house was very cold when we arrived (night temperature around 7 degrees celsius, inside and outside...) so the first night was truly terrible. The heating features a hidden switch in a bookshelf, which was not mentioned in the house description. We only learned that via whatsapp from the owner on day 2 after complaining about the bitter cold. We were quite annoyed by the quality of the beds, so we decided to not stay for the full 2 weeks we booked (and paid) - we left after 5 days and rented something else, on our own extra costs. Sad, to summarize, but I'd say: There are many better options in the area.

I have been renting our beautiful house for over 25 years and have had consistently good feedback. The house has its own unique style and character which radiates warmth and a glow. The photos in the advertisement are a faithful representation of the interior design of the house with its ‘sunlit yellow space’ . Vrbo have confirmed there is no expectation of a ‘ meet and greet ‘ service on site at their rentals . In the pre-booking emails, telephone conversations and digital information before you go , I let guests know where to find the key to let themselves in. I am always responsive and available on the phone to support you should any difficulties emerge. The house is set in a rural Greek village where the Greek culture is still very alive and present . There are no roads in the village - there is a donkey path running past the house . The hillside location offers spectacular views of the islands and Aegean Sea. The house does not have easy access and this is made clear in the advertisement and when I talk to prospective visitors in the telephone calls (at least 2) before the holiday . I am always clear in my recommendation that the house is not suitable for anyone with a physical disability or serious health condition. The house has a number of different systems to choose from to heat the property including an open fireplace . Whether summer or winter , the house is a perfect retreat . We hope to retain its charm against the backdrop of the busy world we all live in .

Dear Arthur, thank you for your feedback . I am very sorry about the mosquitoes . Unfortunately there is a degree of unpredictability regarding the mosquitoes as they vary at different times of the year , from one year to another and on weather conditions . I am glad you were able to enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool which is always a delight after a walk in the hot sun . I was puzzled by your comments on the location of the house . As you know , we had a long telephone conversation before the holiday in which I particularly noted that it is not possible to take the car to the front door . I described the short walk of 200 metres down the hill to the house and the way back . I emphasised that the house is NOT the place to go if you have any mobility issues or problems walking . I am over 70 and can do the walk without difficulty. I hope you were not surprised by the lack of Wi-Fi as this is clearly stated in the advertisement. The house is indeed well situated for archaeological visits and a number of completely unspoilt beaches - there may be a maximum of 20 people on a 1 km beach in mid August . We always hope that guests will enjoy the peace and ‘respite from busy life’ in the provencal decor of our greek home with its spiral staircase and varying levels of terraces and living quarters . We have deliberately left a wide range of books in our little library to make the visit as agreeable as possible. We feel that the accommodation and facilities are well reflected in the price of the house in the summer period . We would be happy for you to return to our unique get-away whenever you might like to. All the best Elizabeth

Dear Valerie,Thank you for your feedback . I understand from my housekeeper that it rained during your week in Greece which was very unfortunate for you . This is likely to have contributed to the level of mosquitoes during your week , for which , of course , we have nets on the windows and hanging nets over all the beds . As you may remember , I telephoned you in advance of your holiday , as I do with all prospective visitors . The purpose of this first phone call is to state clearly that it is not possible to park the car in front of the house and that there is an approximately 200 metre descent to walk to the house and a walk back up the hill to reach the car . I emphasise CLEARLY that the house is NOT place for anyone with mobility issues . I am over 70 and can manage the hill without difficulty. In the phone call , I also note the particular arrangements in Greece for toilet refuse, the electricity arrangements in the event of a blackout and rubbish disposal arrangements . I always add that staying in the village is like being in a ‘time warp’ , away from the hubbub of modern life . I follow up the phone call with emailed detailed written information about the house , environs and recommendations for beaches etc.I always suggest a follow up phone call after reading the information to make sure visitors have everything and know everything to meet their particular needs for the holiday . Throughout the holiday I am available on the telephone to help you if you need anything . I was puzzled by the drawing of attentionto no Wi-Fi as this is clearly stated in the advertisement. Google maps show visitors that nearby Leonidio is 12 kms away from the village (15 minutes in the car) . There are two good sized supermarkets in this pleasant town with everything one needs for a holiday . As the house is in this charming typically Greek village , the end of the garden wall adjoins the end of the garden of the neighbouring house as one might indeed expect in a village . The house and pool are completely private, not at all overlooked with a sea view. The pool is built into the hillside and , as per advertisement , not presented as an Olympic sized one . We are sorry that you were not able to enjoy our beautiful house as much as we do . We always wish our guests will have a totally restful and relaxing get-away in our home . We feel the facilities of the house are well reflected in the price for such a property at the height of the peak season. Elizabeth

Dear Melanie, Thank you so much for your very lovely comments ! We are always absolutely delighted when visitors enjoy the house and environs as much as we do . The pandemic has meant that two summers have passed without us visiting Greece so the longing for the beauty and the magnificent views in Melana , as you say , is intense . Much of the house was decorated by the previous owner (over 20 years ago) , a French interior designer , and we have kept the original colours and rustic look which has always reminded me of rural France and Provence! We would love you to come back sometime and can recommend autumn and spring as magical times to be there too ! Once again thank you very much for your kind words .
