L’’Ancienne Boulangerie, built in 1821, was the old bakery for the hamlet. It is situated centrally amidst fortified medieval villages, swimming lakes, wine and Armagnac domains and summer village fetes. Your bilingual hosts are available to help with questions anytime, but are discreet and non-intrusive leaving you to experience the property as your own. The nearby village of Castera-Verduzan (7 minute drive) has a small grocery store, bank machine, cafe, bistros, bakery and butcher. We had a lovely stay at this traditional gite in the Gers. A great pool with the most beautiful views, well stocked kitchen, spacious rooms and fantastic garden for the kids. The owners have thought of everything, with garden games, table-tennis, bikes etc so no members of the family will be bored. Lots to do in the surrounding area, I am sure we shall be back before too long! Thanks to Susan and Yannick, they are great hosts.

Thank you very much Juliet for staying with at our gite, The Old Bakery. It was a pleasure having you and your family.
A warm welcome and guided tour from Yannick & Susan on arrival.
The Gite was as described, nicely decorated with original features and lots of little added extras. Set in the most peaceful, panoramic surroundings with superb views, just what we were looking for. Our girls couldn't wait to see the pool and they were not disappointed.....we couldn't get them out! We had some wonderful days out and visited pretty towns and villages and would highly recommend a visit.

Liked: Cleanliness, communication, location
Not perfect
Good: Beautiful setting; pleasant poolside environment; large amount of indoor and outdoor games and equipment; reliable wi-fi.
Not so good: Advertised smoke detector had been removed and the fire extinguisher was nowhere to be seen; cramped understairs shower room with inoperable extractor fan; old fridge; small, old top loader washing machine; pool-cleaning robot not working.

Hello Andrew, Thank you for submitting your review. Smoke detectors are installed in every room at every level. You simply didn't see them because we put them in places that they would not be seen. The fire extinguisher is located under the sink. The understairs bathroom with shower & restrooms has been one of the most appreciated room by 99% of our guests over the last 5 years. The fridge is in very good working condition despite being "old". The washing machine is very good working condition and is not old; we have had many families of 4-5 guests very happy using this washing machine. The pool cleaning robot had some difficulties at the end of the season because it had been running for 4 months straight and non stop. But we are getting it ready and nicely tuned up for 2023. Thank you for staying at our gite and in our beautiful Gers.

Charming French Countryside Retreat
This lovely farmhouse was the perfect escape for me from the bustle of my Paris adventure. The setting is idyllic, extremely private and quiet. It really was like my own private retreat amongst the sunflower fields, birds and scattered farms dotting the countryside. The house was comfortable and charming. I could take a stroll, lounge by the pool or bike around the area to appreciate the beauty. The entire property just invites one to relax and take in the surrounding vistas. There is a small village 10 minutes by car to get supplies or dine out.
This is the ideal family or friend vacation home for those looking to get away and reconnect with loved ones. I will definitely be back again when the sunflowers are in full bloom to witness how glorious that must be!

Dear Michelle, We are so glad our little 'peace' of Gascony could offer up a respite and be the healing salve you needed. Come again anytime. Sunflowers bloom from end of June to mid-August. July is their brilliant zenith!
Traditional and spacious Gersois Gîte, former bakery, in French 'Tuscan' landscape. Interior created with love. Stunning views from heated (!) swimming pool wich allowes swimming in early spring. Tennis court, bikes and activity games available. Owners Susan & Yannick live next door, have total respect for privacy of the guests and are available when asked or needed. Lots of private space in huge garden. Attractive villages, producer markets, vineyards, sunflowers, even a star worth gourmet restaurant at 7 minutes drive: every part of the French holiday dream is available! Perfect to hike & bike. Supermarket at 7 minutes drive. Good price/quality ratio. L'ancien boulangerie deserves recommendation.

The location is wonderful with very attractive views and the outside space, including the pool, is well maintained and equipped. The main bedroom to the cottage was clean and spacious with a large bathroom. We felt that a shower in this room would be much better than a rolled top bath and the shower under the stairs on the ground floor which was cramped and the shower area tired. The double bed needed two good pillows each rather than one each.
The ground floor area is looking dated with a tired kitchen and lifeless cushions on the sofas. There is also too much clutter in the kitchen area and not full sets of glasses or coffee cups.
The owners are delightful and were extremely helpful in providing detailed information on local sites, wineries and restaurants.

Hello Nick, Thank you for submitting your review and feedback. A lot of guests really appreciate having the bath tub in the master bedroom but this coming, year we will add the option of shower in that bathroom. The understairs bathroom with shower & restrooms has been one of the most appreciated room by 99% of our guests over the last 5 years. The so-called "tired" kitchen has all the amenities and appliances needed and a brand new gaz stove top. We provide all the kitchen ustensils as well as 2 or 3 options for coffee making...maybe that is what seemed cluttery for you.
There has been enough/plenty of coffee cups and glasses for family of 4, 5, 6 guests for the entire summer season. We always mention during the check in tour (the same way we do for all our guests) that if there is anything else you needed during your stay, we would be more than happy to provide; we don't remember you asking for anything additional. Thank you for staying at our gite and in our beautiful Gers.

Thank you very much Laura for staying with at our gite, The Old Bakery. It was a pleasure having you and your family.
We spent one week in Bezolles and enjoyed the quietness of the area. the house benefits from a wide park,a nice pool, and offers in a typical “bakery” environment of whatever you need to cook. The host couple are very nice people, very discrete and prepare the house so that as soon as you arrive you don’t have to rush to the grocery for basic needs.
All in all a very nice experience and willingness to get back!

Merci Henri, we truly enjoyed having your family and appreciate your care of our property!
This traditional cottage in the rural French countryside is absolutely perfect. You don’t need to bring anything except your clothes! Yannick and Susan have furnished with taste and fully equipped the house with everything you could possibly need (including toiletries and sundries). Plus they left us some goodies on arrival - bread, butter, jam, eggs, local wine. An amazing welcome! This place is a children’s paradise, as well as the loft room full of character, the pool and the trampoline, there are lots and lots of outdoor and indoor games to choose from, as well as a range of books and DVDs. The location is perfect - tranquil, quiet paths for walks, runs or bike rides straight from the house.

Perfect rest and relaxation!
Stayed here for the whole of the month of September. Blessed with perfect weather we loved the beautiful well maintained pool, the excellent comfortable gite and the peace and tranquillity. Wonderful stars at night, a lovely view across the valley and many an hour spent watching the birds of prey circling above. This all within a 5 minute drive of Castera Verduzan ( try Le Florida restaurant for a great gourmet experience! ) with well stocked small supermarket, boulangerie and excellent butcher. Lots of historical villages to explore all within half an hour's drive. The perfect holiday all round!

About the host
Hosted by Susan and Yannick Rousseau
Yannick and Susan are the proprietors since July 2018. The ancient bakery is the guest house on our property. It is completely private and seaprate. We live in the main house and are available as needed, but are discreet with separate entrance and driveway. We look forward to seeing you soon at this captivating corner of Gascony! Cheers, Susan and Yannick
Why they chose this property
Yannick was born and raised in the nearby citadel of Lectoure and his family lives nearby. We fell in love with this property (built in 1821) when we were looking for our own house to move here from California. We love the huge fireplace with cozy wood-burning stove, the country quiet and the stunning 3-story 19th century staircase. The property has so many features with stone buildings, gardens and stunning views and sunsets of the countryside. The nearness to wildlife brings harmony and quietude into focus while the petite village of Castera-Verduzan is a 7 minute drive away.
What makes this property unique
We have paid attention to the small details from cotton robes and slippers to teak pool furniture and everything in between. The ancient beauty of this old stone farmhouse and its magnificent sunsets is set in the middle of a completely secluded backdrop. Each day a different sky and stunning scene. Even when raining it is alive with beauty and magic. The original fireplace has the original wood-burning bread oven where people of the hamlet came to bake their bread. The huge wooden door still hangs and opens out onto a private park, yours to walk, play, or lounge. The bees hum, the birds thrive, the owls and osprey live high in the trees. Lavender and roses surrounding the house are there for your pleasure and enjoyment. If it is country, bucolic living you want, you've found your paradise.
