We invite you to join us in this home from home holiday accommodation which is full of love for the people and the amazing country of Gambia.

Camara Gardens apartments are set in calming gardens with an array of tropical flowers and trees. The peaceful surrounding means you can totally relax in the garden, take breakfast on the patio or chill at the poolside with the sounds of the local birds.

The house is in a quiet location, it would suit those wanting a calming ambiance, allowing you to unwind and relax. We are in a great location to be able to explore the fascinating Gambian cultures and tribes. Gambia is also a hotspot for bird watching.

Contemporary quality furnishings with an African twist!

Once inside you will see that each apartment has been designed to ensure that you have all the comforts you need to make this your home from home in the Gambia.

Bedrooms have hotel quality beds which are twin, or king sized with super comfortable mattresses and modern wardrobe and dressing table, a selection of African fabric bed covers, cushions and curtains to complement the Egyptian cotton linen. The air conditioning will keep you cool from the tropical heat.

The en suite bathrooms have large walk-in showers with luxurious body-jet showers supplied with hot water from the solar heating system.

The kitchen is fully equipped with modern units a full cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge etc. Within the cupboards you will find all the pots, pans, glassware and serving bowls you might need to prepare and serve your culinary delights. To enjoy the outdoor dining experience there is a BBQ at hand.

In the living/dining room there is a large comfortable leather sofa bed, a couple of arm chairs, a flat screen TV with connection to your phone, a dining table with chairs and a fan.

As we are in Africa and it’s not quite the same as modern Europe we have our own generator, borehole and solar hot water system to provide constant power, water and a hot shower!

Each apartment has its own balcony or terrace area with table and chairs so that you can relax with a long cool drink or just sit and listen to the birds singing.

The outdoor space is the place for relaxation and evening gatherings.

we have somewhere for the Sun or the shade. We have separate seating areas around the poolside, comfy sofas and armchairs for chilling, tables and chairs for dining and of course the sunbeds for catching the rays and relaxing.
In the gardens we have an array of colourful tropical plants and foliage including, bird of paradise flowers, lilies, palm trees, an avocado tree, banana plants and papaya.

If you have a private occasion to celebrate such as a wedding ceremony, then we can arrange caterers for you to hold your event poolside. (you need to book all apartments for a private event).

I am the Camara Gardens owner, Denise, that s me in the photos! I have worked around the world and I’m very friendly. I live on site and have a wealth of knowledge of the country, and all the wonderful things to see and do.

Adjoining Camara Gardens is Camara Kunda, home to the Camara family, my adopted family. They are all very keen to make sure you have a great holiday too. They help with cleaning, daytime and evening security/gateman, pool cleaning, maintenance etc

I am a very experience and professional hotel General manager, and tour operator. I have lived around the world and have been living in Gambia on and off for 15 years.

Prior to opening my own business, I worked for high quality travel companies in various beach and tropical destinations as well as ski resorts.

My last role was with Neilson Active Holidays as General manager at the Aeolian Village Hotel, Lesvos, Greece. I have also worked for First Choice, Thomson and TUI for several years in worldwide locations.

My previous experience means that I have high standards of cleanliness and service. I have many mentions on guest reviews for my ability to manage a hotel and create the right level of professionalism whilst being friendly and customer focused!

I am British, I speak English and fluent French. My family speak varying levels of English, French and a variety of local languages which is very helpful at times!

We’d like to think that if you don’t already know us that you will join us as a stranger and leave as a friend.

We provide you with luxury hotel quality towels and linen as well as poolside towels, you will need to bring a towel if you want to take it to the beach.

Bed linen is changed weekly, or daily for an additional charge, towels changed as and when requested.

There’s no kids club here, but we welcome you with your little ones. High Chair and travel cots are available, please request at time of booking (small charge payable locally for cot hire or you can provide your own).

Honesty fridge available poolside for chilled drinks, payable at the end of your stay.

WE will have a bottle of water in the fridge to welcome you and the essential tea, coffee and juice for that first morning cuppa!

We can arrange to fill your fridge with mixers or beers for you prior to arrival so that you can start your holiday as soon as you arrive! Please message us for further details.

We will be on hand on arrival and once you have settled to answer your questions to ensure that you are all set for an amazing holiday.

We will be organising Yoga and drumming retreats, making the most of our rooftop space!

It doesn t matter to us if you are new to Gambia or you’ve been coming here for years, we want you to have an amazing stay. We are flexible to do as much or as little as you want to help you enjoy your holiday, just let us know what you would like us to help you with at the time of booking
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
We are on the outskirts of Brufut just a few steps in from the coastal road only a 10-15-minute stroll to the beautiful unspoiled Brufut beach where you can take a short walk or continue for miles. Along the beach you will find small friendly local bars providing you with rest-bite from the African sun and a cool refreshing drink.

Our neighbours are the locals and our friends! Many of them have been involved with the creation of Camara Gardens.

Door to door taxis can be arranged for you or you can pick up local transport on the coastal road a couple of minutes’ walks away.

Brufut has a small local market daily (mainly food), you can walk there in 10 to 15 minutes or take local transport.

Within 10 minutes’ walk there are a couple of restaurants and bars but not too many!

For those who want the busier night life we are only 5 minutes away by taxi from the Senegambia strip where you can dance under the African stars to the reggae beats or enjoy the African drums till the early hours!

Airport transfer will take about 20-30 minutes depending on the time of day.

For those staying 7 nights or more we will arrange your inclusive transfer from the airport, please let us know your flight details and we will be waiting for you.

For those only staying a short while, airport transfers can be pre-booked, prices on request.

Local transport is easily available at a reasonable price, we can arrange car hire or a driver with a car if you’re not sure about the African roads!

We are near to the Tanji nature reserve and fishing area which is reached by a short hop in a taxi. Tanji is a very interesting place to visit in the evening when the locals are bringing in the fish ready to sell including wholesale to be sold in the local markets.

We can have the BBQ ready for you on your return if you wish to cook the daily catch you have purchased!

Banjul is the Capital and on the agenda for many visitors, it takes about 30 minutes to get to Banjul depending on the time of day.

Sea fishing and lazy day cruises are a popular Gambian experience, see the mangroves along the creeks any many of the local bird’s species, an hour or two or a full day! Gambia is a hotspot for bird watchers.

Local villages, schools, markets are all waiting for the explorers. We have our family home in the African Bush a couple of hours away, so we are familiar with the trans Gambia highway on the south of the river Banjul and the many villages along the way.

Private parking is available within Camara Gardens for a limited number of vehicles, please inform us at time of booking if you are wanting to book a parking space. Street parking is available immediately outside the premises.
