About this property

SCOTTLAND - idyllic, stylish, secluded 2 bedroom villa & pool at Smuggler's Cove

Totally secluded amongst tropical greenery, Scottland is your own private oasis
The definition of tranquility with only tree frogs and rustling palms to call neighbours, it's location means you're only a short drive from white sand beaches, laid-back beach bars & lovely restaurants. Effortlessly harmonising Mediterranean style with Caribbean flare, Scottland oozes elegance & style, with plenty of character & unique charm

Remember to follow our socials @villasoftortola for all things BVI!

LIVING AREAS:
Completely harmonising Mediterranean style with Caribbean flare, this gorgeous villa showcases natural wood wherever possible - giving this stylish home, an old-world Mediterranean feel, right here in the Caribbean.

The comfortable living room is decorated with local prints and artefacts and has a large SmartTV (if you can bear to tear your eyes away from the ocean glimmering beyond). This welcoming area lets in plenty of natural light, as it opens fully to the gorgeous outdoor areas and magnificent views.

The bright and cheery country-style kitchen, adjacent to the living room. It's well-equipped for all your self catering needs with high quality appliances and an island counter.

BEDROOMS & BATHROOMS:
1) Upstairs awaits a really romantic master suite, with vaulted ceilings and a king size four-poster bed. French doors open wide to a spacious new deck, with views of nearby Islands like Jost Van Dyke, Sandy Cay and several others. With its double sun-lounger and cafe table and chairs, a morning coffee or glass of orange juice never tasted better! This suite includes a walk-in closet and and en-suite bathroom, where a refreshing rinse in the natural stone shower is the perfect beginning or end to any day. The Master Suite has AC and a SmartTV. Somewhat hidden behind the master suite, is a private tiled courtyard with table and chairs, and a garden path to a pavilion-style gazebo with a perfectly swaying hammock. Yep, it's got it all!

2) The second bedroom, located downstairs, offers a queen bed with of course, beautiful ocean views and a very small half-bath (a miniature sink and toilet with a shower outside). It's accessed by a couple of steps from the rear of the kitchen. This bedroom has AC (and also houses the washer and dryer).

STEP OUTSIDE:
As well as the various upper-level outdoor spaces, the ground level has a very spacious pool deck complete with gorgeous turquoise pool, loungers for catching rays and a buddha always keeping the atmosphere zen. The covered areas are perfect for those who prefer shade, relaxing on the chaise lounge or napping on the hanging swing is only made better with ocean breezes. Fire up the built-in BBQ and try grilling some local Anegada lobster - The teak dining table on the new covered porch overlooks Smugglers Cove and is a truly magical place to enjoy a meal with friends & family.

NOTE: Scottland is truly for the more adventurous when it comes to driving, the road really is rugged.

NOTE: The staircase leading up to the Master Suite is not well-suited to anyone with mobility difficulties.

SECURITY CAMERA: There's a ring camera facing into the driveway for security purposes, it does not overlook any living area/porch.

AC: There is AC in both bedrooms & ceiling fans throughout

WIFI: There is Wifi

HOUSEKEEPING: is once midweek. All linen and towels will be changed and a general cleaning will be done. Daily housecleaning can be arranged at your own expense.

PARKING: There is driveway parking for your convenience - no long slog with shopping bags or suitcases although there are some steps down to the villa!

NEARBY
Scottland is nestled into a beautiful & tranquil tropical hillside overlooking Smugglers Cove in the West End of Tortola.

SMUGGLER’S COVE (0.6 miles away)
It's a pretty walk down and quite a steep one up but Smuggler’s Cove is idyllic and perfectly sheltered by its vibrant reef which provides sensational snorkelling and is home to Patricia’s laid-back beach bar. * the cruise ship passengers sometimes come here so check out the 'BVI cruise ship schedule' first online

LONG BAY (1.5 miles away)
At Long Bay you’ll find a mile-long stretch of white sand and turquoise waters and a selection of beachfront refreshment options - 1748 Restaurant, Tropical Fusion, Johnny’s Beach Bar and 1748 Coffee Shop. If you’re feeling energetic there’s Long Bay Beach Resort’s Tennis and Pickleball courts. A day pass will buy you hours of fun! There's also a gym you can purchase passes for & a spa for a little pampering. You can also purchase a pool pass for the day ($100 pp incl $75 food & beverage credit & access to the pool. Under 12's are free)

APPLE BAY (1.9 miles away)
A little village with world-class winter surf and a handful of bars and restaurants (Sebastian’s Seaside Grille, Sugar Mill, Tramonti) for all occasions.

CARROT BAY (2.7 miles away)

Bobby’s Marketplace has all the essentials for stocking up on groceries.
For beach activities, there’s plenty of beach bars you can rent a lounger from (or just setup on the sand). The water is calm and clear and underfoot is sandy so it's an excellent place for swimming. If you're feeling adventurous, there is a shipwreck a very short swim out from the North end of the beach which is great to check out with a snorkel. There are also jet skis, paddle boards and kayaks which can be rented along the beach. Callwood’s Rum Distillery is a great place to check out to see a local family business that has been running for over 200 years and to try some of their delicious tipples. *all these amenities mean that the cruise ship passengers come here so check out the 'BVI cruise ship schedule' first online

We had a lovely time at Scottlnad House. It's even better in real life than the pictures. Sharlene was amazing - meeting us at the ferry terminal, getting us settled and being available all week and helping return our camera that we left behind! A Jeep Wrangler or similar is a must -- if you've visited the Caribbean before I don't think you'll be too surprised. The roads are steep and narrow and to the villa is (mostly) unpaved. However, it's worth it.The house is amazing for indoor/outdoor living and well equipped to cook and relax. There's plenty of nearby options for dinner and we'd recommend Omar's Sandpit. There's also a Riteway nearby that's great for groceries and some gift/clothing stores too. The rotis from Pinky were amazing and could serve two people!

Secluded with a beautiful view!

We had a fantastic stay here! The view was breathtaking and never got old. We spent most late afternoons in the pool staring out over the water. The drive to the place is not for the faint of heart but we were prepared for that and it was well worth it for the seclusion and views. We would absolutely stay here again!

Best location on the island! Roads are a little treacherous, but we quickly figured that out. Pool is amazing and house beautiful and well equipped. A beautiful beach is a quick drive with the best beach bar called Patricia’s. We ate there almost everyday. You won’t be sorry staying here!

Hi Garry, I’m so glad that you had a wonderful stay and didn’t let the road effect your overall enjoyment...Smugglers Cove remains quiet and relaxing largely because of the roads and we do offer warnings in the listing... “★Scottland is truly for the more adventurous, the road to Scottland really is rugged★“ and “**4WD vehicle is 100% necessary**. Secluded and beautiful

We had the pleasure of spending our honeymoon at Scottland house. It was exactly as advertised and maybe a little better! The amenities were excellent and the views are almost surreal. A short drive/walk to Smuggler’s Cove and you are sitting on one of the most beautiful beaches in the BVI. As others have said, the road is rough, but nothing a decent vehicle cannot handle. We would recommend a four-wheel drive capable vehicle. Our small Suzuki Jimny was perfect. We rented from Jerry’s just down the road. We will strongly consider this property for future trips.

Amazing getaway !

This property is stunning! Such beautiful views of the hill sides & ocean! Very quite & private location. Home is cozy & comfortable. I think we spent 80% of our time on the veranda! We had a few hiccups but Sharlene was excellent in resolving any issues. Roads take a little getting use to at first but just go slow, you’ll be fine. Postcard Picture Perfect!!

Scottland exceeds everything you think you will find in a VRBO. The views are better than the pictures. The house is better than the pictures. Communication with Sam and Sharlene was excellent. Sharlene helped me set up everything we needed for our vacation- from reserving the jeep (necessary), to providing great suggestions for snorkeling (island surf and sail). The views are breathtaking from the house. It is its own little paradise. Bring lots of sunscreen and bug spray- you are in the tropics. No warm clothes needed AT ALL. Perfect week. Thank you so much, Villas of Tortola. Wonderful.

Amazing Views

We stayed 9-days at Scottland and wish we could have stayed more. The villa was a perfect size and layout for my family of four. The views and surrounding landscaping were absolutely amazing and the villa was very clean and well equipped. A rugged 4WD vehicle is a must to get to the villa as the road in is quite the adventure (but adds to the fun). Smugglers Cove is a short 5 minute drive away and is walkable if you prefer. Sam, JC, Sharlene and Pinky were amazing and they all helped us out along the way with answering questions, renting a vehicle, receiving and unpacking our grocery order and meeting us after we landed to guide us to the villa for the first time. Pinky even delivered her famous rotis to our villa which were absolutely amazing.

Slice of Heaven

This villa was an absolute dream. Perched on the hillside of Tortola overlooking the beautiful Smugglers Cove, we didn't want to leave. The indoor / outdoor living was beautiful. We open all of the doors first thing every morning to enjoy the breeze and view with coffee from the bench swing. The pool was refreshing after a day of excursions. We had friends join us one night for a big home cooked meal with our fresh catch. Music playing, kids in the pool, wine flowing with that view and space will be a wonderful memory for years to come. Few things to make note of ... the drive to all of the villas require 4 wheel drive and was a mild adjustment the first night but became fun after that. I am a solo mom and had no problem driving up and down everyday. If you have toddlers, the pool / porch area might be a little nerve wracking with the drop off around the pool.Very clean and well stocked! Would definitely stay again!

Terrific in Tortola

My wife and I just returned from a two week stay at this hillside villa overlooking beautiful Smugglers Cove. We had a wonderful relaxing stay, enjoying morning breakfast on the upstairs patio off the master bedroom, and evening dinner on the expansive covered patio adjacent to the sparkling pool. It was hard to talk ourselves into going anywhere else to explore or have a night out, since everything at "Scottland" was so comfortable. We did, however, make an exception on a number of days to take the 3 minute ride down the hill to Smugglers Cove. This beach is like sugar sand, and the ocean water is crystal clear, but the best part is we only had to take a short stroll to Patricia's beach bar where cheeseburgers in paradise awaited along with Painkillers to wash it down...YUM! The staff at Villas of Tortolla took great care of us, and made our stay absolutely perfect. We would definitely consider a return to this little slice of paradise.

Spectacular View and Private

First and foremost, the view was simply spectacular. We spent pretty much all the time in the pool, the deck and the covered porch, other than to shower and sleep. The deck outside the master bedroom was also heavenly, we ate all our breakfast there while watching the neighbouring islands of BVI. The deck was also a great spot to star-gaze at night. We had some issues with kitchen utensils and cleanliness and made some suggestions to the owners. They were all easy fixes. Previous guests had commented on the drive to the villa and I agree. Because of rain, the potholes were filled with muddy water so we couldn't tell how deep they were. We decided to return the rental car on Day 2 and relied on taxis exclusively during our stay.

Thanks for taking the time to post this review Victor and we're glad that you enjoyed your time at Scottland and those spectacular views. I apologise for the small issues which I think was due to the fact that you were the first guests after the villa was closed up for hurricane season, I only wish you'd shared the info when you were there so we could have made everything perfect for the rest of your stay. Thank you again and all the best for 2023!

Beautiful House/Great Location

My spouse and I just spent two weeks at Scottland. The house is gorgeous, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We spent much of our time out by the beautiful pool and comfortable porch. We originally reserved the house with another family member that had planned to be on the trip. She had mobility issues, so I always keep this in mind. I am glad that the description to the house has included that it would be difficult for someone with mobility issues. The stairs are a bit tight up to the master bedroom. My husband and I had no issues since it was just the two of us, but it may be difficult traveling with another couple if 4 were to book the house. The sink/toilet for the downstairs bedroom is just off the pantry. There isn't a door for privacy, but there is a curtain. There are two outside areas that could be used for a shower for this bedroom. The closest one is just off the bedroom, but it is right outside the front door - so I think that one is typically meant for rinsing and cleaning off sand when coming from the beach. The other is more than a few steps outside the kitchen. It is located on the second level (while this bedroom is on the lower level) and very open. It is more like an open courtyard that leads to the hammock and right outside the door of the master bathroom. There is a gate that can be accessed from the driveway right where the shower is. If I was traveling with friends, I would prefer something more private. Loved this house though!
Stayed 14 nights in Mar 2024
Response from VrboOwner on 19 March 2024
Thanks for sharing with future guests Katherine, we always try to explain very clearly about any situations like the outdoor shower thats not public and I always remind guests that this villa is really ideal for 1 couple using the master suite or a couple with a child using the smaller bedroom as it's really not comparable to the master. We're very glad you enjoyed your stay and that it worked out perfectly for just yourself and your husband :)

A View A Top Tortola - the Amazing Villa at Scottland

Our stay at the Villa in Scottland BVI was extremely enjoyable, at no small part to the efforts of the property manager, Sharlene. Assisting in the lead up to our stay, Sharlene helped us secure a car rental, answered every conceivable question, and even met us in town and lead us to the property. The first time you enter the villa is a special experience. The house has been recently updated (not pictured in the home photos) and is even more comfortable and accommodating. The front deck was remade to be larger and covered, and houses additional dining and seating options. It is the best spot to take in the views and survey the goings-on of the beach. The beach is a hidden gem. In the 7 days of our stay, the number of beach goers did not exceed 20 (most days, it was more like 7-10). To echo other reviewers, the roads leading to the property are indeed rough and require a rugged 4WD vehicle for repeated use. A normal 4x4 will work, but clearance may be an issue at points. We chose to view the condition of the road as adventurous, though it may affect how often you choose to venture out (it did ours). There were a few times that we left a fully latched door, only to return to a door that was slightly ajar. That can be unsettling, until you realize that the road you just traveled is just as much a security measure. All in all, the house is one of a kind, and we look forward to staying again in the future. We'll be sure to fly direct, next time, as the ferry experience is generally comparable to flying, without the consistent travel times. Trust me when I tell you, the Villa at Scottland is worth every penny, though some of those pennies might be well spent on gravel :)

Hi Shane, so glad you enjoyed the whole "experience" of Scottland - the road does seem to be a surprise for first time visitors to Tortola :) We'll be posting new photos shortly with all the fab upgrades that the owners have made to their beautiful dream island home. Thank you for staying and we hope to welcome you back!
