About this property

Charming farmhouse in the foothills of Andover

Welcome to Upton Road Farmhouse, a renovated old farmhouse located on in the heart of nature's playground. Snowmobile, ATV, hiking and horse trails are within minutes of the house. Skiing at Black Mountain, Sunday River, and Mt. Abram is within a short drive. Fishing, hunting, biking, boating, swimming and more are available within our town. Our cozy rural town will provide you with a quiet "get away from it all" atmosphere. This guesthouse suits all of your basic needs for a comfortable stay.

The farmhouse is located on an old farm property. It is surrounded by fields of rolling hills, mature apple and maple trees, stream feed frog ponds, and across the street from the Ellis River. It is located on a working farm (tree farm, forestry, gardens, orchards). The hosts live a few miles away and are available to help meet your needs and make your stay a comfortable one.

Bedrooms - There are two bedrooms located upstairs and one on the main floor. All rooms include beds, linens, dressers , blinds/shades and curtains as well as other assorted furniture. As with many older homes, the light switches are in odd locations and there are limited outlets but extension cords are available. The bedroom doors are original and fully close and latch but do not lock.

Master Suite: The master suite includes a spacious master bedroom with queen size bed, private bath, and a smaller sitting room. The master bedroom and sitting room are open to each other (no door between them). The sitting room has a twin day bed and makes a nice child's room or place to read or work.

Second Bedroom: The second bedroom is spacious and includes a queen size bed and large closet. It has lovely views of the farm fields and orchard around the house and a window that faces the river across the street.

Third Bedroom (main floor): The smallest bedroom is located on the ground floor and has a full bed. It also has a small closet and dresser.

Bathrooms: Both bathrooms (one upstairs, one downstairs) are recently renovated and include modern fixtures, including a toilet, sink, vanity and tub/shower (main floor) or shower stall (master suite), as well as towels and assorted toiletries. The upstairs bathroom is part of the master suite and can only be accessed through the master bedroom.

Kitchen: The kitchen includes newer appliances including a standard sized refrigerator/freezer, oven/stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, electric kettle, blender, cookware, cutlery, dinnerware, etc.

Laundry Room: A laundry room with a washer, dryer and a utility sink is located off of the kitchen.

Staircase and Second Story: One of the lovely characteristics of the farmhouse is the dormer roof on the second story. This makes for low ceilings in the doorways to the second floor rooms and the staircase. The bedrooms and bathroom upstairs have a standard 7 foot ceiling height in the center of the rooms. However, in some of the entry ways, someone over 5' 6" may have to duck to walk through.

Living Room: The living room has a standard seating area and is equipped with with a Roku smart TV that is connected to the house WiFi. You may use the the TV by signing in with your own Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Sling and other accounts. You will also be able to access other limited free viewing through the TV. If you do not have an account, many of the streaming services offer a free trial that you could subscribe to during your stay.

Dining Room: The dining area has a wooden table and six chairs and tablecloths, placemats and napkins are provided. It has a door and windows that open to the screened front porch. It includes a woodstove (fully functioning) and the built-cabinet contains games and folders of information on the area.

Entertainment: WiFi is provided throughout the house. Our WiFi service is Specturm cable internet at 100 Mbps. It is adequate for streaming video as well as standard internet use. Remote workers and students have found it to be excellent service to meet their streaming and internet needs. A Roku Smart TV is available in the living room. No cable or satellite is available at this time. Assorted games and books are also available in the dining room cabinet. Exploring nature is the biggest feature of the property. A picnic table, portable firepit, and lawn chairs are available for summer use.

Parking: The driveway can accommodate 3-4 cars and/or trailers. If more parking is needed, the hosts can direct you to additional parking spaces around the farm. Parking along the road is not recommended.

Children: While much of the house has been updated and renovated over the years, it still retains the charm of some of its classic features. For this reason, this house may not be suitable for the safety of young children and toddlers. Please discuss any children staying in the house prior to making a reservation to ensure a pleasant and safe stay.

Local Amenities: Andover is a very small town but it does have some services including a general store which serves food all day, hardware store, playgrounds, and more. The closest grocery stores, restaurants shopping and other diversions are located in Rumford and Bethel, about 30 minutes driving from the house.

Peaceful and comfortable
We came for a nearby family event and were delighted to find a rental so conveniently located, comfortable, roomy, and thoughtfully arranged. The host was very helpful and responded quickly when I had questions. We all want to come back again and stay longer to explore the area and hang out on the screened porch.

Clean and cozy stay
Lora’s property was a great home base for our ski trip over new years! Kitchen was incredibly well stocked and the we had a lot of fun playing board games provided. Having and washer and dryer was a huge help and the drive to Sunday River wasn’t bad at all.

Beautiful Farmhouse
This quaint, lovely old farmhouse in Maine was a perfect place for the family to stay while we were up working on an old family camp nearby. The property had a tranquil ambiance and quaint New England charm coupled with the sounds of the river across the road. We and our 5 year old loved exploring the farmhouse and property, while enjoying silence of rural Maine.
