About this property

Urban Suite in Saint Louis

Our Glam Suite has everything you need for a weekend of urban pleasure. Enjoy our fully outfitted 800 sq. ft. apartment just minutes away of all of St. Louis' attractions and some of the best gastronomic treats in the mid west. Close to area hospitals and St. Louis University.

You will enjoy a fully equipped kitchen and bath with spices, cooking oil and toiletries. Our Airbnb's are equipped with a Green Tea Memory Foam mattress for a great sleep. Our guests rave about our bed's comfort.

Guests will love staying here because we have made it a home away from home. The Urban Suite is nicely decorated and close to all the cool neighborhoods in St. Louis.

Guests have access to the entire apartment and the laundry which is in the basement.

We have several people in town that help us take care of our guests. We are available remotely for assistance. We have local staff and a property manager for maintenance issues.

The Suite is close to downtown, Forest Park, Central West End, the Basilica, Botanical Garden, Cardinal's Stadium, the convention center, The Grove, Midtown and Benton Park.

Area hospitals are just a 10 minute commute. St. Louis University and the medical school are just around the corner.

It's a 10 minute ride to all of St. Louis' attractions. Plus, there is rarely any traffic to slow you down.

You could definitely Uber it around the city. Once I get into town, I usually Uber out to dinner. If you have loads of sightseeing to do, you may prefer a car. There is plenty of parking available on the street near our place. We typically park on Lafayette.

St. Louis is a vibrant city. This location is highly patrolled by the local police due to its super close proximity to St. Louis University. We still advise caution while in the city. Lock your car doors and don't leave valuables in your car.

Charming CWE adjacent
Great space! Neighborhood definitely on the way up. Lots to offer nearby; museums, terrific food, and shopping. Third floor stairs a bit of a struggle with bags, but not a big deterrent. Very pleased overall!

Excellent place to stay
Clean, well stocked apartment with immediate access to city amenities at a good price point. Has a cute sunroom attached that's a nice place to have your morning coffee. We spent a lot of time around S Grand Street and Botanical Garden. I recommend Cafe Mochi for good sushi. Felt safe in the area, and appreciated the hosts contacting when we were under tornado watch.

Amazing
The apartment was perfect for our needs, with the exception of the furniture being low for my arthritic hips. Quiet neighborhood. Close to everything we needed. We ran into one really random issue, and the management responded immediately.

About the host

The Marquette Buillding is owned by City Castle LLC operated by Lisa Gallagher and Devon Rucker. We bought the building from Jim Roos of Neighborhood Enterprises. Jim had a long history of working with the city to improve St. Louis City neighborhoods. Like many cities, it suffered through a period of suburban flight leaving the city without the tax base and investment to keep the city vibrant. When we took over the building in 2016, the area was just seeing signs of true investment and diversity. This is my favorite building in my portfolio. Totaling 12 units, the apartment building was the 4th 3 story building in the area. One other 3 story building ibuilt by the same builder is the Lafayette which sits opposite the Marquette Building. The St. Louis Daily Globe penned an article, dated December 8 1812, chronicling the building's ground breaking. The building's construction cost a whopping $30,000 back then which was considered to be a tidy sum.

Immediately after the 3 bedroom apartment now known as The Retreat became vacant, Lisa went about creating a variable stay rental with furnishings acquired in antique shops and from other sources in the area. The art work in the unit exmplifies people from around the world. Since Lisa is a world traveler, she loves the experience of meeting and knowing people from all over the world. She feels that world travel is a humbling and mind opening experience that offers the greatest opportunity for world peace.

Why they chose this property

When Lisa initially heard about The Marquette Building, she was looking for larger apartment buildings to acquire in St. Louis. She already had several four family, duplex and single family homes. Lisa was excited about The Marquette Building's architecture and potential since the previous owner had only partially renovated the building prior to sale.

What makes this property unique

Staying at The Marquette Building offers a guest an opportunity to experience an over 100 year old building that is typical of St. Louis City. The building is conveniently located in the heart of the city close to Downtown, The Central West End, Botanical Heights, Forest Park, Tower Grove Park and all of St. Louis' attractions. It is a 10 minute commute to almost any city attraction.
