Cocolhu · Private Treehouse · Ocean view · Adults only
Escape to Cocolhu, where nature, wildlife, and breathtaking mountain and ocean views come together to create a truly unique experience.
Originally a glamping dome and now a private treehouse, Cocolhu has been thoughtfully redesigned while preserving the same beautiful setting, pool, amenities and hospitality our guests have loved for years.
Located on a private property in a quiet residential area, Cocolhu offers the perfect balance of privacy, comfort, and connection with nature. Just a 3–4 minute drive or a 25-minute walk from downtown Tamarindo, you'll find the beach, restaurants, bars, shops, nightlife, and many outdoor activities.
The property features a kitchen with an outdoor barbecue, a bathroom with hot water and a rain shower, highlighted by a large picture window that fills the space with natural light and overlooks the beautiful tropical plants surrounding the Treehouse. This distinctive architectural feature creates a seamless connection between the bathroom, the lush outdoor surroundings, and the Treehouse interior, allowing guests to enjoy the greenery while showering and offering views directly into the living and sleeping space. The property also includes an air-conditioned bedroom, a dedicated workspace with a desk for remote work, a cozy hammock area, a tiny pool beneath the trees, a terrace with beautiful ocean and mountain views, WiFi, and private parking with security cameras.
One of the special features of Cocolhu is its close connection to nature. Large windows throughout the Treehouse provide abundant natural light and beautiful views of the surrounding tropical landscape. Due to the unique design, not all windows have curtains or blinds, allowing guests to fully enjoy the natural light and atmosphere.
During your stay, you may encounter howler monkeys, colorful birds, butterflies, and other local wildlife. As part of this experience, guests may occasionally hear howler monkeys and other natural sounds early in the morning.
Important Note: Due to the Treehouse's open connection with nature, guests sensitive to early morning light or natural sounds may wish to bring a sleep mask and earplugs for additional comfort.

Everything went very smoothly with our stay here. The owners live close by and were very responsive and accommodating to our arrival and departure times so we could coordinate key exchange. We loved that the location was outside of Tamarindo to give us a glamping feel but that you could be in town in a matter of minutes.
I had such a great time here! I've never stayed anywhere like this. The hosts were so nice and communicative, explained all of the details of the property. I was so relaxed here - definitely recommend!
Javier and Kelly gave us some great tips for restaurants, groceries and things to do in the area. The dome was a unique place! We had a great stay in Tamarindo! Pura Vida!!
We had the most amazing time at the dome! This property exuberates peace and comfort. Waking up to the sound of birds chirping and one morning wailing monkeys was truly an awesome experience.kelly and Javi we're incredible hosts and provided everything we needed. This is a must place to stay!and javi we're and javier
Amazing property, lovingly built and maintained! Abundant wildlife, glorious sunsets and super friendly household cat. Kelly and Javier are truly wonderful people. What a place to celebrate our 45th!!
Beautiful! Amazing set-up, perfect location and is ideal for our last stay in Costa Rica. The dome was really comfortable, with great kitchen facilities and the plunge pool was an added bonus. We are really grateful for all the suggestions on where to eat and go, they were great!
My husband and I had the best time. The pool, the balcony, the outdoor kitchen, the hammocks, the rain shower, the dome...everything was absolutely amazing! ¡Gracias Javier y Kelly!
This property was such a little gem. Javier and Kelly were so nice and gave us a walkthrough when we arrived as well as asked answered any questions we had quickly. It is a very private little property if you are looking for something unique during your stay in Costa Rica. It can get a little hot during the day in the dome but there is a AC unit to run while you are there that cools it down within an hour or so. Highly recommend!
The property is Exactly as advertised on the VRBO website … a Razr for transportation into town is needed … only 2/3kms away but road is narrow to walk on.
A fantastic experience Seeing & Meeting the monkeys by day and listening to them all night long … the Frogs !! An unexpected experience !! All in the best way ! … Dome was a little warm when we were there mid May as was the outside temp. Cheers !
We really enjoyed our stay at Cocolhu. It's a very cool place and it had everything we needed. We saw some wonderful sunsets from the observation deck, and enjoyed a couple of refreshing dips in the little circular outdoor pool. It was nice to be outside, closer to nature. We saw howler monkeys in the trees across the way, some frogs, birds and a squirrel. Kelly was a great and helpful host and communication was easy.
It's about a 10-12 minute drive from the town of Tamarindo, so you really need a car, but there's a secure parking area. I would say, however, that due to the steep angle where the access road meets the main highway, a vehicle with high clearance would be a good choice. We had rented a compact SUV, but it had a bit of trouble navigating the steep grade where the roads meet. Not the hosts' fault, of course, and maybe the local road people have plans to fix that.
The dome itself was comfortable and roomy. The AC was new, and it made sleeping possible, though don't expect it to be a cool as a hotel room. Domes like this just get hot during the day. Still, we didn't have any problem sleeping at night, and it's part of the "glamping" experience. It's a very relaxing place. If you're looking to stay somewhere unique and closer to nature, while also being a short distance from the town, I would highly recommend Cocolhu.

Great spot for a tranquil stay- dome gets a bit hot at times but it does have an AC unit which helps greatly!
Was a beautiful property with every amenity you would want in a hotel....while the tent is hot during the day....you most likely will be out and about during those hot hot times and it cools off extremely fast.
Javier responded to any questions I had in a very short time - mostly about Tamarindo and I wanted to give the resident kitty cat a bowl of food. Amazing is an understatement for Javier and Kelly. So nice and we’re just find that I was a little late getting in past 4pm.
Look forward to coming back to their glamping Dome the next time it’s just me and my partner.
¡Pura Vida!!
It was a beautiful! I love the architecture. There were chemical air fresheners, which we dont like but we removed them and the smell went away in one night. The dome gets very hot and needs cross ventilation. Our young child couldn't nap here, so we had leave. The cat is cute. Great hosts! Very inspiring!
We had a nice time staying at this property over New Years. It's a unique property. You're far enough outside of town that it's peaceful and quiet but you will definitely need a car if you're staying here, though it's only a 5 minute drive to town. There's a steep hill up to the property and the road to town can get very dusty. The hosts Kelly & Javier are warm and lovely. We didn't bother them but they were more than willing to be available if we needed anything. I find it easier to list the pros and cons as a list...
Pros:
- The property comes with the sweetest kitty cat you've ever met in your life. You don't like cats? Well nobody likes you :) Be good to my Patu!
-The dome itself is comfortable for sleeping. The bed and sheets were comfortable and the AC worked well at night.
-The kitchen is well appointed. The hosts were kind enough to not only leave appliances and and cooking utensils, but they also provided basic spices and cooking oil as well as coffee/tea accoutrements to get you started.
-The small bathroom is well appointed. The large rain shower head was refreshing.
- The downstairs portion has 2 hammocks, a small couch, a fire pit, and a small plunge pool. I regret not utilizing this area more. I really only came down here to feed and play with the cat.
-The view is beautiful and they provided comfortable Adirondack chairs to sit and view it.
Cons (Keep in mind these are not necessarily negative things. You should just know so you're not surprised):
- When the sun comes up the AC in the dome can't keep up. Don't plan on sleeping in, it gets hot. With that said...
- More shade is needed upstairs. Maybe bring that umbrella from downstairs to the upstairs.
- Also, better seating is needed inside of the dome. We found the 2 inflatable chairs useless as you just slide right out of them.
- Most women use an additional towel for their hair so it would be nice to have more than 2.
- The wifi is very slow. But why are you on it anyway? You're on vacation :)> (Unfortunately we had to work on vacation).
- You are just outside of town in a wooded area. THERE ARE BUGS. LOTS OF BUGS. And frogs. And howler monkeys. We even saw a deer. I don't consider any of these things cons. I come to Costa Rica for the nature. Even the bugs are kind of neat! I just want you to know what you're getting into.
In all we considered it a positive and unique experience and we're glad we chose to stay in Kelly and Javier's dome.
Pura Vida,

Loved the jungle privacy and comforts of an air conditioned dome. Owners are terrific! They are so thoughtful and sweet. My favorite feature in the place was the outdoor shower and jacuzzi where I could chill out under the jungle canopy. My girlfriend's favorite was the hammock in the shade. It gets warm in direct sun, so it's nice to be able to run the A/C in the dome. We did have an issue when a water pump burst, but the owners responded immediately and managed to find parts to fix it within a few hours (on a holiday weekend, no less!). So, kudos for taking great care of us, and letting us enjoy this beautiful jungle retreat. I can't wait to come back when the mango and avocado trees are producing!
this was great. dome as AC, comfy bed, nice view. bathroom is nice. great that kitchen/dining is outside to listen to monkeys/feel the breeze. nice getaway with no one around but still just a 5 min drive to the beach (5 min cuz slow dirt road). Owner is nice and will meet to show you around the place.
