About this property

Art Studio - Highlands Urban Oasis - Carriage House

ABOUT THE SPACE:
This plush, well-equipped, working Artist Studio is located in one of Denver's oldest neighborhoods: the Historic Landmark District of Potter Highlands. Working Artist's Studio with Steampunk flair. This private detached outbuilding has lots of light and sits at the rear of a large inner-city lot behind a primary 1880s Victorian home. Centrally located in the Highlands, AKA The Northside, it has an open-concept great room, a separate bedroom, and a travertine and tile bath. There are two mini-split A/C and heat with separate service to each room, a gas fireplace/stove in the great room, skylights, and a large outdoor space with a covered deck, and gazebo. The home is perfect for 1-2 guests, however, there is a sleeper futon, that can sleep two additional small guests/children, or one adult, for a maximum of 4. I do not recommend the futon for two full-sized adults. The bedroom has a plush queen maple bed. The space is a working artist studio and is very well appointed and comfortable and has a small teak dining table, a large American Leather Studio down-filled leather sofa and chair, wool carpets/throw rugs, period millwork, and six vaulted skylights with lots of natural light. The bedroom has room darkening shades for comfortable sleeping.

Outdoors you will find massive and luxurious flower and vegetable gardens throughout the property (summer months), a lovely copper gazebo, and a large grass yard for stargazing, sunbathing, or outdoor dining/BBQ grilling., and a firepit for enjoying cold nights in the yard. There’s a pergola-covered deck for outdoor dining. Copper gutters, wood clapboard, and custom diamond roofing shingles complete the Victorian cottage feel. This private artist’s retreat has custom touches and creative artwork throughout including artwork on the walls for sale.

The yard is fully fenced and I do allow pets. Pet fees are $25 per pet, per night, and you must pick up after your pet as they go as the yard is a shared space. Maximum pets: 2. If you have more than 1 pet, please make sure full payment per pet is made. All pets must be paid for in advance of your arrival. This is also a great dog-walking neighborhood.

Please be aware some of the artwork includes tasteful nudes. If you do not want the nudes in the studio please give advance notice and I’ll cover or remove them from the studio during your stay. Don’t worry the art materials are all removed and put away during your stay. You may see paint splatter on the floors (working studio), but they have been swept and mopped clean. Some paint stains cannot be removed, but that does not mean it is not a clean space.

There is plenty of street parking.

This main house was originally constructed in 1880. Most of the neighborhood is built up of late 1800s Victorians, classic cottages, craftsman’s bungalows, and Denver squares, and is great for walking. The cottage was built in the 1950s, with additions and complete renovations in 2008 and 2017.

This quiet urban oasis is situated over a 10,200 square foot lot, extremely unusual for the inner City location, which gives a sense of peace and seclusion. Located 10 minutes from downtown by car, you’re within walking distance of stores, shops, restaurants, and bars. You’ll have easy driving access to I-70, I-25, and 6th Avenue Freeways to get to the airport, the mountains for skiing or sightseeing, or to any other remote location. Uber or Lyft wait times are typically less than 5 minutes, and lower downtown (LODO) is just a 30-minute walk.

MMJ / 420 friendly property (smoke/vape outdoors only). GLBTQ & Straight Friendly. Friendly period. Note: smoking/vaping is only allowed outside in the large private yard.

We apologize for the inconvenience but have decided to remove all throw rugs and carpets to provide the cleanest surfaces possible (due to COVID). These policies are subject to change based on CDC-recommended guidelines**

Thank you for your interest.

Awesome place for pets!
We had a great stay! I rate my stays based on three things. 1. Good for pets. 2. Location. 3. Cleanliness. This place is 5 stars for all. This is such a unique place and we feel lucky to have found it. The owner is awesome and super attentive. The yard is perfect for dogs and it is a great place to walk them. It has nice landscaping so not a great place for unattended dogs, but for me it was the perfect place. The neighborhood is really neat with a ton of entertainment and dining nearby. This is a great place if you are going to a game at any of the near by sporting venues. Ball arena is like 5 mins away. I would absolutely stay here again.

Great Visit in Perfect Location
They studio was perfect and very welcoming. We slept really well (not normal for us when we are away from our pillows and mattress). Everything you could possibly need is accounted for. And the host is lovely.

Artistic, atmospheric, beautiful and clean
This is perhaps the first VRBO I've stayed in, in which the actual space and property and communication with the owner exceeded my expectations. Tonia has created an artistic haven with all the ammenities. Despite being in the middle of a snow storm, the space was well heated and cozy. I look forward to coming in the spring to see the beautiful backyard. Tonia was available to help me with a few things: an extension cord, TV set up. She is entirely comfortable to be around. I highly recommend this artistic oasis.

Charming, comfortable, and cozy.
The studio is adorable, equipped everything, and the location is awesome. The backyard is beautiful, and is perfect if you are traveling with your pup. The bed was very comfortable. There is plenty of parking and the street is quiet. We were there for nine days and enjoyed our stay very much. We already planning to book it again soon.

I am a sculptor, painter, and photographer. I write and pretend to be a good cook. I love to travel and try new things I've never done before.

Why they chose this property

This precious Victorian (main house) was built in 1880. It is a family home, bought in the 1970s. Potter Highlands was one of the original cities in old Denver back in the mid-1800s and was developed by Irish, Italian, and Scottish immigrants who moved here during the gold and silver rush. There's some amazing history in this very quaint neighborhood. It's a magical property, and it's located in a great city. There's so much to do in Denver and it's right at your fingertips from this central location.

What makes this property unique

As an artist, I have added artistic accents throughout the property, from the gated entry to the backyard oasis to the copper gutters with custom-made rain chains. I designed and built the additions, pergolas, custom millwork, fences, gates, etc. Everyone who comes here says they feel at home. I hope you will too.
