About this property

Private cabin overlooking a valley, pastures, and forrests

My 4 acre property is located just under 5 miles from the town of Battle Ground, Washington. Most properties in my area are between 3 and 10 acres. Your cabin overlooks the valley where the "Battle", that the town was named after, never took place...Yup. There is a great hard bound volume in the living room with a complete history of the area. We are about 1.5 miles to Battle Ground Lake State Park with camping, hiking trails, fishing, boating, and snorkling. There are horse trails and a sandy beach too. We often see Bald Eagles doing some fishing too! There are numerous wineries and breweries in the area. Many are within a 10 minute drive:
WINERIES:
Heisen House Vineyard 1.9 Mi.
Rusty Grape vineyard 2.6 Mi.
Olequa cellars 3.2 Mi
Moulton Falls Winery 4.3 Mi.
Rezabek Vineyards 4.5Mi.

Three Brothers Vineyard 8.9 Mi.

.Grains of wrath Brewing 16 Mi.
Mt. Tabor Brewing 14Mi.
These businesses are all in Washington. in Portland, 35 minutes away the list would be nearly impossible for me to type out. (two fingers).
There is a place called "Ape Caves" in the Goat Rocks wilderness 36 miles from here for spelunkers. At almost 13,000 ft long it is one of the longest lava tubes in the world. There are 3 large reservoirs 20 miles away for fishing, and power boats..The nearby mountains are well known for deer and elk hunting.
Inside the cabin is everything you need for a relaxing retreat or maybe a comfortable place to return to while working away from home. There is a Queen size bed, large kitchen, full size range and refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, pots, pans, cups, etc. also a big sofa and HUGE leather Lazy Boy recliner in the living room with the smart TV and Direct TV.

Peaceful and Relaxing
The cabin was just as it was in the photos. Cute, cozy and comfortable. Quiet and privately peaceful. Very close to town and Battle Ground Lake State Park. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely come back.

Quiet neighborhood
We had a family reunion at the nearby state park so the location was perfect for my stay. The unit was very well equipped and had everything I needed. The advertisement made it seem small but I found it perfect.

Inconvenient Experience
The cabin and property are nice but there is little to no cell phone service. I stayed the 1st time for 5 days with little but manageable cell phone service. My second visit was a 5 day reservation but upon arriving there was no cell phone service or internet at all. This was a necessity for me to be able to call for transportation. My wife messaged the owner trying to see if there was anything that could be done. The owner was out of state and irritated with my problem. At times he didn't respond to my wife's messages. After 2 days, I left and requested a refund of the 3 nights I wasn't able to stay. Owner refused. I wouldn't recommend staying there if you need phone or internet service. Host is also not very cooperative with issues.

I am a semi retired residential contractor. I still am involved in an assortment of projects not the least of which is woodworking. My shop is adjacent to your cabin. I have been told by guests that the sound is not bothersome but I avoid any noisy work when people are in the cabin. I also have a Woodmizer bandsaw mill on the property which helps supply me with materials and firewood.
Bertie is a long time resident of Oahu and maintains her home there, she is a Licensed Massage Therapist and 2 years ago went through extensive training to become a table games dealer at the brand new beautiful Ilani casino about 20 minutes from here! She loves it and the people love her!
Between us we have 5 boys and 6 grandkids in Washington, California, Hawaii, and Missouri.
Bertie and I bought this property in 2012 and moved into a 34' Airstream trailer parked in front of the cabin. The house was unlivable so for 2 months I worked on the cabin where we would be more comfortable. After moving in, we started renovating the house. We moved into the house in November of 2013 and that left the cabin as a guest house. We have enjoyed meeting travelers and hearing their various stories as they come and go and look forward to sharing stories with you too!

Why they chose this property

In 2012 Bertie and me came from Hawaii to Portland to choose a west coast home. There was very little available in Portland so Bertie said "What about looking across the Columbia in Washington?" so we started looking around outside Vancouver in all the little out of the way communities and fell in love with this area which is actually called "Hockinson" We were shown this property and fell in love with it but the house was in terrible condition. Others that looked at it wanted to tear it down and start over but there was so much history here in this 1947 brick farmhouse we decided to take on the project. With Bertie making the important decisions and me using my experience and equipment we made a very comfortable home from this poor old brick house!
So... There is much blood, sweat, and tears here but were glad we did it. We're also glad its done (nearly)

What makes this property unique

Travelers who choose this cabin for whatever their particular needs are will most appreciate the quiet, solitude, and easy comfort inside, and also outside on the covered deck. There is room to spread out in bed or on the couch, kick back in the biggest chair I have ever seen, and watch HDTV on the 32" flatscreen TV. If you enjoy cooking, all the basics are there. If you are escaping you likely wont see anyone unless you invited them.
