If you're looking for a quiet family getaway, this probably isn't it. If you're looking for a vacation you'll be talking about for years, you've found it.We arrived to Brian making sure the entire lake could enjoy Alabama at full volume from the living room TV while a crew of boating enthusiasts appeared well into their Saturday, on a Thursday. It felt less like checking into a VRBO and more like walking into someone's family reunion.Inside, the décor celebrates Thanksgiving 365 days a year. The curtains somehow look like they came from both a medieval castle and the Playboy Mansion. The kids' room featured a three-story carpeted cat mansion. The bathrooms had no bath mats or shower curtain liners, and the refrigerator shelves had apparently retired years ago.We weren’t aware the dock and boathouse on the property are communal but we saw plenty of birds, squirrels and neighbors in the yard.There were enough "No Smoking" signs to suggest someone had fought this battle before. Ironically, after a few hours in the house, we understood the temptation.The biggest surprise came when firefighters and paramedics arrived while our kids were outside in the jacuzzi. We learned the owner had experienced a serious water-related emergency and was taken to the hospital. We sincerely hope he's fully recovered.Brian seems like a nice guy, and we wish him the best. Hopefully future guests will find a few bath mats, a functioning refrigerator and some seasonally appropriate decor.
