Siltcoos Lake:
The largest lake on the central Oregon coast is also one of the region’s best fishing lakes, especially for warm water fish including largemouth bass.
It also is one of the few lakes in Oregon where you can keep a wild coho salmon in season.
Siltcoos Lake is a sprawling 3,164 acres located between Florence and Reedsport in the wonderful dune country of the central coastline.
Siltcoos is one of the most celebrated largemouth bass fisheries in Oregon and is among those mentioned in our article, Best Largemouth Bass Fishing in Western Oregon.
You’ll find tons of good bass cover all over the lake here, including fallen trees, drop-offs, points, islands and numerous coves and several longer creek arms. There also are some docks, especially where there are a fair number of private homes along the banks on the west and north sides of the lake, many clustered around the communities of Dunes City and North Beach.
Bass will often move up into the shallower water during the spring, when they spawn just off shore, and they can be aggressive then. They will stage a bit more off shore at other times.
Crappie also like to hang out around structure and may be found in shallower water during the spring. Sunken trees and pilings are good places to start.
Also, the lake is known to have good populations of less-pursued species including yellow perch, sunfish and bullhead catfish.
Trout are not the primary quarry for anglers here, but the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife does stock a modest number of rainbow trout here. Look for those plantings to take place in late winter or early spring (March and April are good times to check the stocking schedule linked below).
Native cutthroat trout also live in the lake and its tributary streams and may be kept as part of your daily trout limit.
The coho salmon fishery here opens in October and runs through December. Fishing for these fish is usually not productive until significant rainfall draws in these large fish, which most often happens in November.
There are a modest number of coho caught and kept here, but it’s a fairly unique opportunity. Boaters catch most of the adult coho, often by trolling wobbling lures in the creek channels the salmon use to return to their home streams.
What’s nearby:
This home is a quick drive from multiple access points to the Oregon Dunes and ocean beaches including the popular access just out South Jetty Road, and the city of Florence is five miles north. The charming Old Town section of the city is filled with lovely shops, cafes, galleries, and restaurants. You will also be minutes from numerous trailheads for hiking or mountain biking. The coastal forests flourishing in Douglas fir and Sitka spruce extend nearly to the Ocean. Some trails wind up, over, and through sand dunes, offering hikers the opportunity to experience the unique natural wonders of this area. Bring your camera! Paddle Siltcoos River between Siltcoos Lake and the Pacific Ocean. This slow-moving, three-mile river is so ideal for paddlers that it’s a designated Canoe Trail. Take a scenic drive up Hwy 101 to Heceta Head Lighthouse where free tours are offered daily. Get your adrenalin flowing on a nearby dune buggy tour or with an ATV rental, or go crabbing from the Siuslaw Bay public fishing pier at the end of South Jetty road where crabbing is excellent from late spring until the fresh water from winter rains force the crabs out to the ocean.

Wonderful place, very quiet and relaxing with beautiful views. It is a little ways from town through the trees out to the lake but that is to be expected with most lake properties. Fred Meyer grocery store in Florence is the place to go for any necessities.

CLEAN & COMFORTABLE
We loved our stay at Lake Street Cottage. This annual trip is all about time with our Elderly parents. We fish, play games, do puzzles and relax. The home is quiet, clean and comfortable and has a great view of the lake. There is ample parking and was easy to park our boat. A BIG BONUS was the use of the garage with remote opener so you don't have to hassle with the lockbox and key. The kitchen is nice with a large pantry and appliance worked great. One negative is that the only light in the dining room is small floor lamp which makes it very difficult if you play games or do puzzles especially after dark. Also in the shared bathroom there are no hooks or towel bars to hang your towels. Overall the home was great and we will stay again.
The house was well equipped, clean, beautiful views, lake access.Very enjoyable stay with family members!

Beautiful Lakeview home
Our family of 5 with 3 grown kids really enjoyed our stay. The home is light, comfortable and spacious. We enjoyed mornings on the front covered porch and evenings on the back deck, grilling and savoring the view and birdsong.
The only detractors from our stay were that there was no dishwasher detergent to run the dishwasher so we had to handwash all our dishes and there were no garbage bags to re-line the garbage can after we emptied it. Hopefully just a one time oversight? The mattress in one of the bedrooms was quite soft for our taste as well. Overall a great place to stay though and we would recommend it to others for an enjoyable lakeside get away.
The home itself is quite nice and in a beautiful location. The provided furnishings are clean and comfy. There’s a nice fenced yard for the pup. The only thing that really bothered us were some persistent smells. The pantry smells stale, and laundry room has an odor that prevented me from using the machines and there seemed to be a faint septic smell in most rooms on the north side of the house. That may just be a matter of tank maintenance and I’ve dealt with that before so I don’t want to hold it against the owner too much. Overall, a very nice place and we’d stay here again.

Hello Sharaya, We are glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for bringing the issues to our attention, we will get our maintenance and cleaning team on it. We do strive to keep our homes in the best order as possible.
Thank you, Della
My adult college-age children are spread all over the country. One of them lives in Eugene, so I looked around for a nice VRBO in the area. This house was perfect. There were 6 of us. We loved the kitchen. EVERYTHING You need to cook a large dinner is here. We cooked every night. The view of the lake is amazing. Check-in and out was very easy. Thank you for sharing this lovely home.
The place was perfect! It was a get away for four sisters and a dog. House was very clean and the set-up was ideal. Check-in and check-out was quick and easy. Would recommend to family and friends. Plan to visit again!

Nice Get Away
We have stayed in this home for the past few years for an annual golf retreat in Florence. It is quiet, clean, and able to host our evening cocktail event after golf with our friends. The coffee carafe was new, but to short. i contacted the manager and a new one was brought immediately the same day. This is one reason we return, great service.
The house is thoughtfully set up for a comfortable stay -- it even has an enclosed deck with a gate to a separate fenced area for the dog. The negatives are fixable: it was obvious that the floor had not been washed, the microwave did not have a turntable (so it could not be used), there were no instructions on how to lock the key in the lockbox at the end of the stay, and most importantly, after our calls none of these items were addressed by management while we were there.
This location and accommodations were perfect for our family retreat. The beach, dunes, and lake, offered something for every one to enjoy, and the home was very comfortable for our group of adults.
We visited Florence for a family reunion. The home was in a perfect location. The view from the back patio was absolutely gorgeous! The home was very welcoming and comfortable. It had everything we needed. I would love to visit again and will definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

Thank you so much for staying with us. It was a pleasure to be able to host your group! We love to hear when guests have an amazing time and enjoy the property to the fullest. Hope to see you next year. Safe travels.
This house was everything it promised to be and more. Clean, bright, beautiful views, spacious, I could go on and on. Only minor issues were that there was no turntable tray in the microwave, but it still worked, and the paddle boat wasn’t there, but we didn’t have time to use it even if it had been! The home has everything you could want and was comfortable and quiet. We will definitely rent again the next time we head that way.
