We had a hiccup getting to the property caused by the Car hire in Florence and had to change our travel plans. Liz offered to help and ensured our arrival went smoothly for us when it could so easily have become a very tiresome day. The views from the house are breathtaking, we had a whole range of seasons in our two weeks but whatever the weather you will never tire of the view. The pool too is positioned superbly looking down the valley. Cortona is a 20 minute walk, however the last 10 mins are very steep downhill and present a challenge to the unwary to walk back. Still it is only 3 minutes drive and easy to park with a wide array or restaurants and shops in a really picturesque town. The Conad supermarket in Camucia with everything you need is only a 10 minute drive with easy parking.
The apartment was perfect and exactly as described. It is located in a quiet location but with a local (very good) bar/pizzeria within easy walking distance. Cortina is simply beautiful and within walking distance. Liz was the perfect host and able to give many recommendations of places to visit and restaurants to eat out in. The pool was wonderful and had such wonderful views.Comes highly recommended and a gem of a find!
Liz’s beautiful villa was immaculately clean, very comfortable, and included all the amenities you could possibly want in a home away from home. Situated in a quiet location with stunning Tuscan views, it was a great place to relax. Inside and out, this property is well maintained and the grounds are beautiful. The walk into Cortona is either 20 minutes (some uphill and downhill) or 30 minutes (flatter route). I recommend renting a car for day trips and for easy access to the train station or if walking a lot is challenging for you. Liz was a truly amazing caring and friendly host and was so thoughtful and helpful. She is very knowledgeable about the area and was available to answer our questions and truly cared about us having a good time.
We drove from Rome to stay with Liz in Tuscany for 10 days (family of 5 with 3 children ages 15, 13 and 9) and we were not disappointed ! Liz is the perfect host, providing a lovely welcome, communicating before and during our stay but leaving us enough space and time so that we felt we were able to relax and enjoy the lovely location and pool. Views from the apartment are amazing ! The accommodation was perfect for us, spacious, clean and well equipped. We all enjoyed the pool and for those that want to explore we were hugely impressed with Cortona, just a walk away for bars, restaurants and shops. From Liz's property we were able to explore Tuscany further taking the ferry to Maggiore Island from Passignano and driving to Siena for the day. This was our families first trip to Italy and I think it will be one that we will find very hard to beat ! Would definitely recommend.
We had a wonderful stay at Liz’s place. The apartment is perfect for a stay in this lovely part of Tuscany – traditional in style but with all the amenities required for a very comfortable stay. As others have said, the photos don’t do it justice. The views from the apartment are stunning, and the pool was a real highlight. Liz was an excellent host, and was very helpful and generous with her advice when we needed it. We will definitely be back!
Great location, great property, beautiful view and great host.
The photos on the description are not fully showing the beauty of the place. We had a great time. We had everything we needed and our host living very close did care that we had everything we needed (thank you very much Liz). We will remember our stay for a long time. The only negative was that google map seems to have some difficulties to find the place but not my car GPS. If using Google map, it is best to put the address of the bar which is 50 meter up the road.
I cant name anything negative about our stay. Everythung was clean and well equiped. Liz, the owner, is the niest person ever. The house is definitly a little paradise in tuscany. We will come back next year!
6 of us had a lovely week in Torreone, a hamlet just above Cortona and within walking distance. The apartment has everything you would need for a great holiday.
Liz is great and her property is fantastic. Her pictures don't do it justice. The gardens and pool area are unbelievable and it is just a relaxing spot. The location (just above Bramasole for anybody looking for that) is top notch. Walks or quick car rides to town are simple and the area is just splendid. Super spacious apartment with FOUR bedrooms and great views over the valley below. Really just an relaxing trip for the family in a wonderul part of Italy. Thanks again Liz. You truly are a Super Host!

Second visit - as lovely as ever
This was our second visit to this lovely apartment. As last year, everything went smoothly, and we found the property the perfect base for exploring this beautiful part of southern Tuscany - and of course relaxing by the infinity pool.

Best Italian holiday ever
A well-equipped and comfortable apartment with garden and pool all looking out over a marvellous view with Lake Trasimeno and mountains in the distance. It's a 2km walk into central Cortona (largely flat but with one steep hill) and the walk is one of the best things about staying here. Liz, the owner, is a generous and delightful host, full of useful tips about the area.

Lovely house, exceptional views
We enjoyed a wonderful holiday in this lovely house. The view really is spectacular. We spent a lot of time in the pool, which is well-equipped with chairs, loungers and sunshades, and enjoyed eating outside under the pergola. The house is also well-equipped, with everything we needed, and Liz was very helpful and welcoming, booking tables and suggesting trips etc. The walk into town is pleasant (although it's a bit of a climb on the way back up!!) but there is a bar and restaurant nearby if you aren't feeling that energetic! We also saw fireflies at night. In easy reach of Florence airport and lots to do in the surrounding area. Would thoroughly recommend. Kate, Tony, Emma & Becky

A great place to stay with wonderful views and close to Cortona.
A lovely villa with beautiful views and an infinity pool in a secluded spot but only 20 minutes walk from Cortona. The walk back in the dark from Cortona was lit by fireflies. Lix is very hospitable. We came here 3 years ago and have been looking forward to coming back. Everything lived up to our memories and I would highly recommend it.

Wonderful, idyllic Tuscan experience
Having read the reviews before arriving, we were expecting a lot from our holiday at Villa Torreone and I'm happy to say it lived up to its billing. The pictures really don't do the villa justice: while it looks amazing in the photos, it is actually better! The setting is exactly as you imagine Tuscany from the movies; rolling hills, olive groves, beautiful views across the valley below and the beautiful historic town of Cortona a short walk away.
Liz really is a wonderful ,welcoming host. Having lived in the area for many years, her local knowledge was excellent and the apartment is laden with books about Tuscany and Italy, which meant we could make the most of every day of our stay.
Cortona offers excellent and very affordable bars and restaurants, which we made the most of every evening, and we particularly enjoyed the walk home under a crystal clear, starry sky each night. The boutiques and artisan shops were also fun to wander around and buy presents.
We took the opportunity to visit Florence by train one day, which was very easy. Whilst we didn't do it, Perugia is also accessible by train. Perhaps next time...
Many thanks for a holiday experience that will bring a smile to our faces for many years to come.

Perfect in every way
It's difficult to put in to words just how perfect Villa Torreone is. If you have seen the film or read the book 'Under the Tuscan Sun', you will feel like you are living the experience. In fact, Bramasole is a short walk down the road. From the tastefully decorated apartment with literally everything you could need, to the breathtaking views across the Chianna valley, to the divine outdoor eating areas, to the beautiful garden and grounds and finally the amazing private eternity pool with exceptional views, you instantly feel like you are in paradise. Liz was an exceptionally welcoming host. We were there with our 10 month old son and she thought of additional extras like providing baby wipes and toys that made us feel right at home. Having been to Tuscany several times, we can also highly recommend Cortona as one of Tuscany's most charming towns. Excellent restaurants, shops and bars, many sightseeing opportunities and very quaint with a true Tuscan feel. We had such a wonderful stay that we have already booked to come again next year!

The Best of Tuscany
I feel compelled to write a review of this fantastic villa. We are a family of 3 adults and 2 kids. The location is amazing, just a 2 minute drive to the heart of town, and central to explore the region and all its picturesque towns. The house itself is immaculate, beautifully decorated, with more than essentials and fully equipped kitchen and is super clean. The added bonus is the pool and the outdoor areas that made our week in Cortona feel like a real holiday!
Liz is such a charming and warm person that we were very sad when we said goodbye to her. She has been in the region for a long time so she is very knowledge and extremely helpful. We hope to return to her amazing house one day!! It was a pleasure to meet you Liz!

Beautiful apartment, wonderful views!
We, four adults aged 60/70, stayed for a wonderful week in May/June. the property is exactly as described, very clean and equipped with everything you could possibly need. We did not hire a car as we like to walk and travel about on local transport and we had a perfect time. The walks into Cortona, one slightly steeper than the other, are through breathtaking scenery. Local buses and trains are on time and cheap and we had days out in Florence, Arezzo, and Orvieto. The owner is wonderfully welcoming and with lots of local information made our stay very memorable, we thoroughly recommend.

Perfect villa
Never having visited Tuscany before I had no idea what to expect really so this was a really pleasant surprise.
First of all the owner is absolutely fantastic! Makes you feel so wellcome and at home. And the villa itself is very well equipped, there is everything you can hope for and more. Even good films for a rainy day. And it is clean and nicely decorated. The pool was great, garden blossoming. And the house is so close to Cortona town you can walk there. There's also a bar/cafe and a restaurant a few hundred meters away.
I will definitely try to travel back here someday!! And I can recommend this to everyone, especially to families, with or without kids. This is an awsome place to have barbeques with frieds out in the garden etc.

Five star villa, five star service
What more could you want from a Tuscan villa? The house is comfortable, homely and well-equipped. The pool, like all parts of the house and garden, has a beautiful view across the valley to Lake Trasimeno. The garden offers a variety of spots in which to relax.
The villa is an excellent base from which to explore many of the Tuscan sights. On the few days we had of un-Tuscan weather, we were able to visit nearby towns such as Montalcino and Pienza, as well as Passignano on the shores of the lake.
The times of the flights to Perugia weren't too convenient for us, so we flew to Pisa and visited Lucca and Siena on the way.
The welcome was warm and throughout our stay every effort was made to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Looking forward to our next visit!
About the host
Hosted by Liz Rigden
I am English, but spent my childhood travelling to many interesting places as my father worked in various parts Africa and also Borneo so I always say I had no fixed abode in the UK. I trained to be a primary school teacher and after one year went off to teach in Benghazi in Lybia. I met my husband there and we then spent some time working abroad before taking our two small daughters back to the UK.
Both my husband and I always had a sense of adventure, although Italy was hardly Africa, but by the time we went to Italy we had retired! We went out to Cortona just for a year back in 2002. Our plan was to rent a house for one year and then go back to England. After one year we decided to try another couple of years and we moved into another rental. It wasn't long before we realised that we couldn't leave Cortona. We had fallen in love with the town, the people and the way of life. We sold our house back in the UK and we were lucky to find Villa Torreone. The house and garden needed lots of work but we were lucky to find a great team of builders and we moved into the bottom apartment in May 2006. The upstairs was soon finished after that and ready to welcome guests. Sadly my husband died only about a year after we moved into the villa and I now spend 6 months in the UK over the winter and 6 months in Cortona, driving back and forth with my 2 cats and an elderly dachshund called Lily. I have lived in Cortona for about 19 years I am a watercolourist and spend most of my summer enjoying painting plein air in the beautiful countryside that surrounds Cortona. If you decide to spend sometime in my Villa you will be as captivated by Cortona and the surrounding countryside and hilltop towns as I have been.
Why they chose this property
Why should you choose Villa Torreone for your holiday? Firstly, for the views which are fantastic. You can see for miles and the view is always changing. It is as beautiful on a stormy wet day as you see the band of rain moving across the valley and just as beautiful on a sunny hot day with a clear blue sky. Secondly, for the peace and seclusion, wonderful private gardens and an amazing view from the affinity swimming pool. Thirdly, for the very close proximity to the centre of Cortona. You can walk into the town in 20 mins or take your car and you are in the centre in 8 mins. Fourthly, because I love having guests and I am here to help you in anyway that I can. I can book restaurants for you and advise on places to visit. I like to invite you for a glass of wine on your second night to chat about things that you may want to do and see. Just as equally if you want your privacy and want to be left well alone I will fully understand and keep well out of your way!
What makes this property unique
An English speaking owner on site to help where necessary. It can be very comforting if there is an emergency and you don't speak the language Close proximity to Cortona. Wonderful pool. Beautiful large garden.
