Family & Pet Friendly Restored Cottage in East Mayo with 4* Bord Failte Award
Built by the Congested District Board in 1903, this beautiful cottage has been completely renovated to provide pet and family friendly self catering which has a 4* rating with the Irish Tourist Authority. Situated in the small village of Bracklagh, it has been finished to a very high standard with a new bathroom and kitchen, ensuite wet room, wood/peat burning stove, saorview tv, bluetooth speaker, digital Roberts radio, linen & towels from The White Company, underfloor heating via a groundwater heat pump and most of the electricity provided by a ground mount solar array.. A refurbished hay barn is ideal for parking, while a second, lockable barn is available to store bikes, surfboards and the like. Bracklagh is very quiet and a haven for wildlife – particularly hares and well behaved dogs are VERY welcome.

Second stay here. Cosy, comfortable and clean with everything provided that you would need for a short stay. In a rural location, but this simply adds to its charm. Would definitely stay again.
Great cottage in a beautiful Irish region - we were greeted by Sean who showed us around the property. Great welcome and very pleasant cottage. Amandine Martine et Pascal
We have stayed at the cottage before Sean and Suzie are brilliant host's. There is everything you need and it is well located. The perfect place to stay.
After our experience at the last cottage, which was less than welcoming (guest instructions posted like confetti around whole house), cluttered, and unclean, we weren't sure what to expect. We weren’t disappointed! Seán allowed us to check in early and met us at their cottage to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We couldn't have asked for more! The cottage was spotlessly clean and had some basic supplies (tea, sugar, etc.). We took advantage of Suzi's cooking and generosity by ordering her soda bread and a cottage pie for two which would easily feed four and all for a very reasonable 25...thank you, Suzi We humans soon made friends with the resident cats, who thankfully were very dog savvy moggies, although our dogs were less entranced Would we recommend? Undoubtably!Would we come again? Absolutely!
Lovely house exactly as seen and described. Very good hosts, had a folder full of information for things to do whilst you are staying there. Beautiful views of the night sky due to the rural location of the property.

About the host
Hosted by sean and suzi
We moved back to Mayo in 2000 after 10 years of renovating Seán's family home - it took so long because of time and budget constraints. and we were joined in December by our daughter, Muirgheal. The family has now grown to include a donkey, 2 alpacas, 4 dogs, 2 miniature shetland ponies, 4 cats, 3 terrapins and 2 fish. The renovations bug took hold again in 2003 and we bought the dilapidated cottage which is now Tigh Mhic. We love the peace and quiet and empty spaces of Mayo and though others would too so planned the work with the idea of providing a home from home holiday cottage. What we didn't realise was how much we would enjoy sharing our love of east Mayo. Tigh Mhic is less than 3 miles from home which makes it easy to be on hand to help our visitors and maintain the cottage to the highest standards.
Why they chose this property
Mick's Place is a fully restored cottage. It is in such a peaceful setting we have taken ourselves off there for our own holidays! If you are out at the front and a vehicle goes past you look up and is not a common sight. You are definitely out in the country with the possibility of spotting hares, hawks, herons, foxes and swallows but only under 10 minutes from the small hub of Claremorris which offers shops, supermarkets, pubs, leisure facilities (including golf club and swimming pool), coffee shops and restaurants.
What makes this property unique
Our joys are gentle walks, occasional cycle rides, sitting with a good book and a glass of wine and spotting nature. These interests are definitely well served at Mick's Place. We also love the fact that Tig Mhic is well placed for day trips to Westport, Achill, Galway, Sligo, Carrick on Shannon and Roscommon..to name but a few of the beautiful places to visit in the west of Ireland
