Cute character cottage in a lovely little village close to lots of nice places such as Canterbury, Broadstairs etc. Parking could be tricky at times but we always found somewhere to park a short walk away.
We live in the village and used the property to accommodate extra family members over Christmas. It was within walking distance of our house, which was perfect. Parking would have been an issue if you needed to park outside the house.
A cosy cottage tucked away in Wingham. The cottage had a lovely garden where in spring/summer would be nice to sit.Well situated for visiting Canterbury,Sandwich and Dover Castle.Wingham itself is lovely with a good bakery and a couple of pubs if you don't feel like cooking.Plenty of parking in Wingham itself.

Thank you Catherine for your review pleased you enjoyed your stay in Cornerways. Your thoughts on my garden are correct, really pretty and colourful in the spring and summer, loads of apples in the autumn. Wingham is the most lovely place to be such friendly people and lots of amenities. The Open Golf Championships are being held in Sandwich July 2020 so the town will be buzzing.

Quaint house
This was an interesting and quaint cottage, straight out of the 1950s it had plenty of old charm and character. The house itself was lovely and the garden was really pretty.Unfortunately the parking was a nightmare - the neighbours car was parked up tight to the entrance to the house so we struggled to get through. We couldn’t empty the bins either due to this. There was nowhere to park near the house so we had to park two streets away and walk back carrying the bags. Other than the parking it’s a nice enough place, it’s not modern but the shower and kitchen etc all work fine.

Special cottage with a beautiful garden
We really enjoyed our stay here, thank you. It felt very different to be in a rental property filled with good quality furniture, rather than Ikea stuff. We were very lucky with the weather and time of the year and must have seen the garden at its finest, with all the flowers blooming. Parking in the courtyard was usually possible, and there are spaces close by if not. Great to be so close to Canterbury and the coast.

Great to read Guy’s review of my cottage. We think it is really nice, when we went to tidy up the back garden last week we loved it so much that we wished we had not rented it out and could stay all summer. I hope other visitors agree. Wingham is such a lovely village, the people so friendly and the countryside and sea so close.
The cottage in its little close is charming, and was absolutely spotless. The parking would not have been a problem if we had been driving the little Fiat I had initially reserved, but since we upgraded to a small SUV for safety because so many roads were flooded, getting in and out of the close was a challenge. The village is picturesque, and the staff in the local pub were so welcoming and gave us a lovely supper. The cottage is convenient to Canterbury and the surrounding countryside is lovely.

Quaint, safe spot
Overall we felt very safe here. Rooms were as described and beds were comfortable. Fridge, toaster, and electric shower all worked as expected. Nice garden. A few areas for improvement - It was very hot weather the week we were there but no fans were provided. The central heat was on in the kids’ room the first night we were there, and it was a bit tricky to figure out how to shut it off. Again, record high temps for summer so really uncomfortable to have the heat on. Would have liked to use kettle but did not as it had too much lime buildup and requires descaling. Would have liked to use washing machine but did not as it had visible mold on gasket.
Overall this VBRO property was good. Small hiccup with hot water heater on arrival, but owner was very responsive and we got it squared away quickly. The bedrooms are excellent if a little small by American standards. The kitchen had all utensils we needed. Refrigerator was a little small but adequate enough. Several markets nearby for snacks or high quality farm foods. Unsure if fireplace worked. Washing machine worked. NO WI-FI

It was nice to talk to Johann on the phone when there was a small problem with the c/h clock we had visited the USA area where he lives. There seems to be a problem with WiFi still being in the advert. I did not realise that Virbo had so many companies under their umbrella these I had not updated thinking that by alterating the Virbo site this covered all companies. I apologise to any clients for misleading information maureen
Beware - this listing was not as described! My partner, friend and I travelled from Australia to stay at this accommodation as we had a wedding nearby at Goodnestone. I contacted the host to request an early check-in as the property advert stated 4pm check-in which as guests we considered to be extremely late compared to hotels and B&Bs. The host's response was that the property was being cleaned and we were actually unable to check-in until 5pm.
We didn't have our own car but the shared available parking in the front driveway noted in the property advert seemed like a nightmare - cars were parked so closely to the tiny front door of the cottage that we had to squeeze our suitcases and ourselves between cars and the neighbouring properties to enter.
Wi-fi is also advertised in the property advert however there is none available. I contacted the host not long after check-in to query this, but did not hear a response so I sent another message. Eventually I received a response from the host ~12hrs later which confirmed Wi-fi was not included with the property and the advert was wrong/out of date. It would have been helpful to know this prior to our stay and we would have considered accommodation elsewhere. Given we had travelled from far and didn't know the local area, we needed to contact several taxi companies as there are very few available and no Uber services. This was extremely difficult without Wi-fi service, which was promised in the advert.
I don't recommend!
comfortable accommodation but sadly the garden did not live up to the lovely photos...understandably covid has interrupted any ongoing work. as a keen gardener I longed to prune and deadhead. The period features where beautifully introduced but obviously it was barer than normal. sadly parking was a nightmare but neighbours were helpful about it...thank you for a gentle few days.
The property was even better than we expected. It was very neat and tidy with a lovely garden. There was lots of information about things to do in the area, and in the whole of Kent. No problems at all.
Great location, cottage was beautifully clean and had everything you could possibly want for a self catering stay. Within walking distance of some great restaurants especially the Indian restaurant which had great food, good service and all at a very reasonable price.
As we had 2 cars parking was a bit of an issue as no on site parking however that would not stop me from staying at this property again

Glad Ann enjoyed her stay, when the weather is stunning as now the garden and village are a pleasure. Regarding the car parking, it is only advertised as a shared space for 1 small car, easy parking in surrounding roads. You will always be able to park up to unload.
Lovely cottage in nice village - would definitely go back in the future

Nice cottage with financial trap
After booking and paying the correct amount – as it later was even confirmed by the agency HomeAway - , Mrs Jones required repeatedly more money by saying the agency didn’t announce the right price and there were 98 Pound missing. But even though we asked her a few times to contact the agency, she did so not until the last day of our stay. Then she described us as not willing to pay the correct amount and kept the security deposit, which should just have been used if we had caused any damages in the house.
We are disappointed she did not talk with us personally or tried to solve the situation earlier, because we did nothing wrong, as already stated above. It was a shame we had to leave under this circumstances, because it was a very nice house in a lovely surrounding.

I am. Dry confused by the response. I cannot understand how a company can reduce the price advertised without any contact with the owner, therefore i presume that it was an agreement with Home and Away. I contacted the clients to ask if they would pay me the amount as advertised, which they agreed to. Final outcome they did not. It is very annoying when bookings are taken out of your control. Can Home and Away sort this out please
This is a really lovely property. It has everything you need, washing machine, dishwasher, big oven and space to eat around the kitchen table. We were able to fit our travel cot between the beds in the twin room and use the mantle piece for the stand of our monitor. It has an electric shower so you can use the water elsewhere in the house (always a bonus). We made use of the local Indian restaurant Salma for a takeaway and the food was excellent. If you can't park in the square then there is space to drop your stuff off and park on the road really close by. We liked the small touches such as ice ready made in the freezer. The only downside was the sofa was uncomfortable. We would come and stay again.
We enjoyed this cute little cottage and felt we stepped back in time. I loved the views of the garden and particularly like the round kitchen table. The local village shop was open on Sunday and there is a pub and restaurant if you don’t feel like cooking. You’ll find the property towards the end of the high street heading in the Dover direction on the A2. The High street is longer than it first appears as it extends beyond the shop and restaurant. As we arrived in the dark it took us a while to realise that.

Fair but certainly not Fabulous
Pleasant cottage but only really comfortable for 3. Parking difficult ,not always available. No WiFi as advertised ( this has been removed from advert following our complaint). Linen was ok but some of the other cleaning not really up to standard - hairs in bathroom, drinking glasses all cloudy - tried putting through dishwasher but as there was no rinse aid so that did not work. Ok if you just want the basics

4* from English Tourist Board was given to my stunning cottage in a super location with pretty cottage garden and sunken patio where I have just had a glass of wine in my shiny glasses.
Wi Fi is now available at clients requests.
Wi fi was not advertised and parking difficult as there are now too many cars per household, normal I think. You can park nearby.
My housekeeper I know always prepares the house so that it is gleaming.
Comments in my Visitors Book are wonderful and clients return time and time again

Nice little cottage but missing internet acces was a nuisane
Nice little cottage, ideal for excursions to Canterbury, the coast or the countryside. The space is quite limited, especially in the second bedroom, if occupied by two people. What we were really dissatisfied with was the missing internet access which was on the website when we booked (now removed) and on the advertising postcards which are on display in the cottage. This had been an important criterion for us, as we were staying for three weeks.

The booking was made in December 2016, and as it was for a 3 weeks so a big discount was given to the client. The cottage has never had WiFi and at the time of booking was not advertised with this. Perhaps I should have this but then it would increase the charges!

Charming and well appointed cottage
This cottage is as pretty, and practical, as advertised. We found it a relaxing place to stay. Everything we needed for self-catering purposes was provided in the well appointed kitchen. We would recommend this cottage to our friends and would happily stay there again.

About the host
Hosted by Maureen Jones
We both grew up London and still live there. We wanted a country retreat and travelling around Kent were stunned by the pretty villages so near to the wonderful coastline. We found the pretty village of Wingham and brought this character cottage in a very run down state because we wanted a project and a holiday home. Alan is a designer of glass buildings and is well known for his renovations of listed buildings, including Buckingham Palace. He is also a very fastidious diy person. Myself I am an elite sports coach and was a Games Maker at the London Olympics 2012. An enthusiastic gardener and decorator, now an artist. When we started the restoration we found many original features, wrought iron fireplaces in every room, even the bathroom. It took us 2 years to complete the renovation and decoration with a modern Victorian theme. The garden was completely overgrown and after years of digging and planting we are now very pleased to share our pretty cottage garden and home with you.
As keen cyclists we have now built a safe storage shed for you to use
Why they chose this property
We wanted a holiday home in an area we did not know so that we had lots to explore. Also Kent has easy access from motorways, ferrys and airports. There are plenty of attractions in this wonderful county. We fell in love with Wingham village with its 12th century pubs, shops, restaurants. We spend many weekends visiting nearby Dover, Walmer and Deal Castles, Canterbury city with its great Cathedral and Sandwich medieval town with its Roman Fort. Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Deal, for the sea and sand are all close. Many picture post card villages are in the area, all with true english pubs selling gourmet food and local beer. Music and beer festivals abound in the summer months. Surrounding Wingham are golf clubs, cycling routes, walking, sea and lake fishing childrens zoos and playgrounds.
What makes this property unique
You can Drive straight off the motorways, ferries or trains and go back in time. The cottage is set in an historic square of listed houses in the centre of Wingham village. You can walk to 2 pubs, church, farm shops and explore the countryside, zoos, country houses and gardens. Top golf courses at Sandwich and Walmer plus many more. The bus service is very good enabling you to get around the surrounding areas easily. There iare many cycle trails including National 1. North Downs way walk is close by. In the winter the open fire in the lounge is wonderfully cosy, in the summer the pretty cottage garden is a blaze of colour, with a sunken patio area, barbecue, fruit trees. Storage for cycles and also you can visit London by fast train from Cantebury, Dover and Ashford
