About this property
Exceptional Position - Beach Access - Spectacular World Heritage Site View
The house is in a stunning south facing position down a secluded fuscia- lined driveway and has a paved entrance, attractive garden, timber terrace and lawn leading directly to a causeway and beach with breathtaking sea views across the bay to St Vaast-la-Hougue and the historic Isle de Tatihou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This constantly changing panorama of sand, sea and sky, punctuated by seabirds, boats and beachcombers is mesmerising in its natural beauty. There are lovely clean, peaceful, sandy beaches on the doorstep which are perfect for sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and kitesurfing as well as rockpooling and sunbathing, so there's something for everyone. It is as close as you can get to the sea, offers the quintessential relaxed family holiday and must be a contender for one of the best views in France. Accommodation: The whole house underwent a complete renovation in 2011 to a high specification and still retains an attractive stone roof, antique fireplace carved from local Caen limestone and a spiral wooden staircase which all add to it's character and charm. The interior is stylishly decorated in shades of white and comfortably furnished to include twin leather sofas in the conservatory. Framed by huge bay windows, these are the perfect place to view the picturesque scenery, with its abundant wildlife and breathtaking sunsets, at any time of the year. Ground floor: Living/dining room, wood burning stove, large bay window with sea views. French windows to terrace and garden. Kitchen/breakfast room, French windows to large stone terrace with pergola over. Utility, door to rear decking and beach access. Double bedroom (1.8m) with French windows to terrace, ensuite shower room/WC. Spiral staircase. First floor: All bedrooms have sea views. Master double bedroom(1.8m). Double bedroom (1.2m). Children's bunk bedroom (1 x 0.90m, 1 x 0.80m, 1 x bunk 0.70m). Bathroom, separate shower, WC. Grounds: Partially enclosed grounds with flower beds and lawned areas. Pergola over stone terrace, timber decked outdoor dining and seating area, gas BBQ, sea views. Outdoor heated shower. Path to beach. Parking for 3 cars. The Beach House is 2.5 km from St Vaast La Hougue and it's marina, and 32km from the ferry connections at Cherbourg or 110km from Caen. The region attracts visitors internationally and is renowned for its gastronomy and oyster beds in particular. Golf, tennis, riding and good local restaurants are nearby, along with many sites of interest including Norman Churches and Cathedrals, the Bayeaux Tapestry (1hr), Mont St Michel (2hr), Normandy Landing Beaches and WWll Cemeteries and Museums within easy driving distance. There are supermarkets and amenities within 10 mins drive and local shops only 5 mins away. Many visit the historic landing beaches, museums and fortifications along the coast but as a tourist destination the area remains largely unspoilt. Absolutely magical. The location is simply breathtaking, it feels like having your own private beach. The house itself is full of charm and the view is completely hypnotic. Nicola was incredibly helpful in every way. We can’t wait to return and stay a little longer.

Terrible host who has charged us for items they shouldn’t have
I am contacting VRBO to make a strong complaint. They have over charged us for items which were not damaged and have accused us of damage to make us pay for items. Do not book with this host as you can’t trust them. Please can someone from VRBO contact us!

The guest threatened to leave a bad review when we complained of damage clearly caused during their stay.
Vrbo assessed the comprehensive evidence, are in agreement, and have subsequently closed the case.

We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you again.

We did not have the pleasure of meeting Jonathan's family in person but would gladly invite them back to stay in the future.

We visited the Beach House, 3 adults and 4 children aged 18months - 8 years, we’d chosen here because the house looked amazing & the location, literally on the beach, ideal for our sand mad children. We weren’t disappointed.
The house & gardens are beautiful, such a well equipped house, there really is nothing the owners haven’t thought of that you might need during your stay.
We wanted an easy holiday, just to chill out & relax and that’s exactly what we did. We visited Saint Vaast on numerous occasions, lunched at Cafe le France on our one rainy day but other than that the proximity to the beach meant the children could rock pool, collect shells, build sand castles, swim in the sea & body board at their leisure.
It was exactly what we wanted & we’re hoping we’ll be back soon, so many people have asked me where this beautiful place is, it really is an amazing setting.
Booking was easy & communication with the owner excellent & very responsive in answering all my questions.
This property was everything that was advertised and more.
Great for family or friends. Lots to do and quick access to most things you will need.

Lovely place for a family holiday
The Beach House is tucked away down a zig zag drive on the east coast of the Cherbourg peninsula, close to a small town called St Vaast la Hougue. The house is exceptionally located for a family. A decent beach is just over the garden wall, a decent bar is a leisurely 15 minute beach walk away and the local town is no more than 10 minutes by car. The town has a pretty good market every Friday with lots of interesting food stalls. The beach bar (Le Goeland) is right on the beach as you would expect and serves good (limited choice) food and an excellent selection of drinks. Service is friendly and swift, a well run place! The beach has a big tidal range but is good for in-shore swimming and 'messing around' when the tide is in. The house is in good condition with plenty of family dining spaces, inside, outside with shelter, outside on the patio. Kitchen equipment is good, we wanted for nothing. Decorations are characterful without being over the top.
We were a three generational family of six and it suited us down to the ground, we enjoyed all aspects of this area of Normandy.

Amazing place !
I stayed in the beach house for the week-end with my family and we just had a perfect moment there together ! The area is wonderful, and there were all the necessary facilities available. We also loved the comfortable house with its warm atmosphere (really nice designed) and the amazing view to the sea ! Everything was obviously arranged to make these few days as convenient and relaxing as possible for us . We had a delightful stay there and I just hope now that we could come back there one day soon ! For sure, I recommend and I really thank Nicola for this pleasant stay :-)

Thoughtfully and attractively set up for a perfect family seaside holiday in a superb location
A truly exceptional location with the beach adjacent to the well kept garden and fabulous views across the bay to St Vasst. The facilities both in the Beach House and the garden made for an exceptionally relaxing family holiday. Everything was presented to a high standard including the linen bathrooms and garden. A seaside theme throughout in the way the house is (slightly shabby chic) furnished coupled with a modern kitchen and bathrooms was much appreciated.
A good choice of restaurants in the area and excellent seafood from harbour side stalls coupled with evenings at the Beach House sampling from Gosslin's magnificent cellar, to help decide which to take home, all made for a truly lovely holiday.

The Beach House - Just lovely
We just had the best time here. It's location right on the beach is fabulous for all the family and St Vaast has a wonderful tradition market on a Saturday. The house is very much up together and has obvious just been fully renovated. We loved it and can't wait to come back.

About the host
Hosted by Mrs N Saxton
We are a family with 3 children aged from teens to twenties living in Gloucestershire. We have been holidaying in this region for over 30 years with friends and extended family of all ages, enjoying the outdoor activities and friendly welcome. I am a graphic designer and my husband is a swimming pool architect and this is the third house we have renovated in the area so we knew a good thing when we saw it.
Why they chose this property
It's hard not to be blown away by this view and we never tire of it. The constantly changing tides, sands and sky are quite hypnotic, particularly from the slightly raised viewpoint. There's always a gentle hint of activity such as locals walking out at low tide to collect cockles or a someone out on horseback but essentially it all remains beautifully unspoilt and quiet.
What makes this property unique
The house is in a perfect position, overlooking a picturesque UNESCO World Heritage site, with a beautiful sandy beach only steps away, ideal for buckets and spades, and a favourite destination for wind and kite surfers, .
