About the host
Hosted by Deanna Garofano

As an Australian with an adventurous spirit and a sense of wanderlust, a lover of good food and wine someone who appreciates a touch of finesse I have found myself in a very happy place. Luckily my husband is a very easy going Englishman and my three teenage boys don't know any different. Crisp winters and long balmy summers are a few of the draws that keep us here. But for me, more importantly, having landed on foreign soil my insatiable appetite for new discoveries is constantly being fed. The gentle and fair approach to life here in France appeals to my sense of inner calm, the history, and in turn the culture appeals to my ongoing adventurous side and my desire to know more. Family and friends (and a few treats now and then) are all important, and spending time together.
Why they chose this property
Living in SW France enables us as a family to live life at our own pace and not feel the pull to join any race. We live with tranquility and space and with a strong sense of community. Twice a year we enjoy an evening of food and wine with the people of Juillac organised by the Maire which constantly consolidates our feelings of belonging to a community. I'm sure any visitor will feel this warmth and friendliness. The landscape is marvellous. We live amongst stretches of immaculate vines. Wildlife is abundant with deer, wild-boar, game birds to name a few. The River Dordogne is a stones throw for walks, swims and canoeing. Fishing is great. There are fabulous historic towns that act as backdrops to weekly markets and some of the finest wines in the world are at our doorstep.
What makes this property unique
You wont have far to venture to take a canoe trip down the Dordogne, ride a horse at a local equestrian centre, visit a lake with man made beach and playground. It's easy to go on a culinary adventure, cook to your hearts content and put on a great spread for all to share. Learn more on a wine tasting course. See the spectacular re-enactment of the final battle of the hundred years war in Castillion. The local tourist office will keep you right up to date with the latest festival, concert, art expo or Châteaux and gardens opening times. Eat out in great restaurants or informally at a local night-market enjoying music and a bottle of local wine. St Emilion, Bordeaux and the Lascaux caves all have been awarded UNESCO heritage status, beauty & wonder abounds and all is waiting to be explore.
