Amazing location, a few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants in Ambleside. 15 min walk to Lake Windermere and Ambleside pier. Lots of beautiful walks from the doorstep. We didn’t use the car for days! Clean and comfortable accommodation with great views. Would definitely recommend
We had an amazing stay in Ambleside. The house was well equipped and clean. It was in easy walking distance to local shops but far enough away to be out the way of any crowds. The balcony gave fabulous views of the setting sun over Ambleside. A Wonderful stay
Lingmell is a fab property. Fab base for a stay in Ambleside. View is amazing. We holiday here most years and will continue to do so for many year's to come.
This house is high on a hill so view from the balcony is second to non. A great viewing platform for the F35 jets too! Its high up position does mean steep walks up and down. The house is big and easily accommodated the 5 of us and we found everything we needed for a great week. The pool is 3 mins walk away and was a nice addition.

Hi there Katrina .We are really pleased that you enjoyed the viewing platform .and had a great week .
Just to clarify that Lingmell is situated just about 80 feet above Ambleside centre on lower gale a wide level terraced area ,occupied by other holiday homes and a timeshare facility .The walk to it takes about 5 mins via the gentlest way which follows the gradient of the slope for about 100yards to make it relatively easy for anyone who is of average physical shape , and expecting the odd walk as they are in the Lake District .
I think the wording” high on a hill “is a little misleading regarding Lingmell’s location in lower gale and perhaps applies to properties located beyond on the way to higher gale and Sweden bridge .Which is also very popular for holiday homes.
Thanks for taking the time to write a review
We have just had a great holiday in the lakes. The house was in a brilliant location just a couple of minutes into the centre but far enough away to be peaceful. There was everything we needed in the house and it was clean throughout. The pool next door is a huge plus and the view is absolutely stunning. If I had to make any criticism it would be that the blinds need some attention but it didn't impede our stay at all.Thank you for hosting us
Excellent location with parking and walking distance to Ambleside.l Good comfortable beds and bathrooms. Lovely views from the balcony.
Had a really good week despite the weather not being brilliant.
This is our third trip to Lingmell and such a pleasure it is to stay in this perfectly located home. The stunning views comfortable feel and delightful features such as clean comfortable beds and delightful bathrooms.
We will certainly be back again to Lingmell and are planning the trip as I write this.
Amazing location and a lovely place with everything you could need for a super holiday in the lakes. Right in the centre but above it all so away from the hustle and bustle and very peaceful. Amazing views over Ambleside and the fells. Added bonus of the pool and spa. Very helpful friendly host. Would definitely return here.
Excellent property yards from the centre of ambleside but tucked away enough to be in a quiet location. The house itself was spacious enough for us 5 and a dog. It felt like home from home which is always a big plus. Will recommend with 5* approval from us.
Wonderful clean spacious property, perfectly located, just 5 minutes from the town centre.
Fantastic views from the double length balcony that leads from both the lounge and master bedroom, overlooking Ambleside.
Garth, the owner, has put a lot of effort into making this a well provided for property. We will definitely be booking again

We have recenlt come back from a wonderful stay at Lingmell. The property is in a super location overloooking Ambleside. Fab balcony for when the weather is dry but the patio doors also allow the views to be appreciated in all weathers. We have stayed here on numerous occasions and hope to continue to do so for years to come. The host is always contactable and always checks that everything is ok with our stay.
Ideal holiday house, location close to shops, eateries, swimming pool whilst still having easy access to the fells. The drive is extremely steep and although it advertises garage for two cars, it wouldn’t fit two large cars. Nice having the extra space up on the road. For a family of 6 we did rearrange the table in front of the window and push the settees to the walls. We preferred to play games at the table rather than watch tv on holiday but at least guests have the choice. The kitchen was well appointed and we made good use of the washing machine and tumble dryer after getting rather wet at times on the fells. The showers were great, powerful and warm. Our elderly dog had to visit vets and we can wholeheartedly recommend Oakhill vets in Ambleside. Thanks for letting us stay.
House was exactly as described. I rented the house for the patio and garden hoping for good weather . Unfortunately we got really bad weather but the views were still beautiful.
The house was very comfortable and very relaxing . Garth was very helpful and I would definitely rent again .

This is a beautiful property in a prime location overlooking Ambleside. The house has everything you could need and more. Warm, comfortable with amazing views from the large balcony overlooking Ambleside and beyond to the breathtaking views of the hills and countryside. Just a few minutes (steep) walk from Ambleside town centre and everything this bustling lakeland town has to offer, pubs, restaurants and shopping a plenty. Excellent comms from Garth made the booking in process very easy from start to finish and the use of the swimming pool and jacuzzi at the nearby Lakeland Centre was an added bonus. I would highly recommend this property and look forward to re-visiting it again soon. Thanks Garth👍
We have just stayed here for the Christmas period and had a lovely time. Had a little trouble with water heater, trying to switch it on but have Garth a quick call and all sorted. The walk into the village is literally 5 mins and lots of great pubs to choose from all pet friendly. Didn't go on many walks as it's didn't stop raining fur the whole week but not a lot you can do about that. Lovely comfy beds and modern bathrooms. Kitchen well equipped and sky TV connected. This wi fi of you need to work remotely. Definitely recommend.
House very well presented. Lovely balcony with superb views. Sitting room/Dining area worked for us although dining area was quite small. Master bedroom great. Bathrooms and showers superb. Twin bedroom very good. Double bedroom downstairs a bit small and dark, with no access to garden.
Everything provided but instructions for microwave would have been useful.
Really enjoyed our fortnight here.
The only real difficulty, and it was major, was the shared very steep drive. Last 11 days I managed to park in Lower Gale. This avoided earlier problems with neighbours.

Hello Geof,
I am sorry that you had problems with the steep driveway .I usually drive past the drive and enter from the right as I'm coming back down lower gale and swing the discovery into the garage. This is relatively straightforward. I did phone you twice and also spoke to the managers and owner of the house next door regarding the parking problems.Fortunately there is extra parking on lower gale opposite .
The video of lingmell amongst the photos gives a clear view of the dining area ,driveway and the 3rd bedroom a standard double.
On the whole I am glad that you enjoyed your fortnight at lingmel.
Since your visit a local builder has constructed a new parking bay adjacent to the property ,the driveway is now much wider and parking is now straightforward ..

Fantastic location and property
We had a lovely week in Ambleside staying in Lingmell. The property is well appointed with fantastic views over the village and surrounding hills. Lake Windemere is a 15 minute walk away where it is easy to pick up the regular boats that leave to travel along the length of the lake. Being centrally located access to all other parts of the Lake District is straight forward. But we did not stray far from Ambleside which has a fantastic arrange of places to eat and drink. Recommendations include eS Bar for Tapas, Lucy's on a plate for evening dinner and The Golden Rule for a traditional pint. Worth a walk is the Waterfalls accessed quite easily at the bottom of the slope into town. The property itself is spacious and comfortable. The recently refurbished bathrooms are great and the wi-fi and Sky TV package perfect for teenagers! Our only challenge was the drive which is very steep but after a couple of tries we mastered the technique!!

Why they chose this property
Ambleside is in the heart of the English Lake District so there are many attractions in the local area. My dad worked at Windscale UKAE and used to drive through Ambleside on way up there from Warrington. When he retired he bought Lingmell as he loved the lakes and we decided to keep it in the family.
What makes this property unique
Ambleside is just a one-minute walk away, yet the house enjoys a quiet and private setting.
Take in the amazing views from the wide balcony of this spacious detached home, surrounded by gardens.
Waterhead and Lake Windermere are only a five-minute, level walk from the property.
Guests also enjoy access to a heated indoor swimming pool with jacuzzi and separate tots’ pool, located adjacent to the house. Having a heated swimming facility virtually next door is incredibly convenient — whatever the weather.
