Located in a picture perfect quirky town of Wirksworth with a walk away from range of independent shops, boutique art-house cinema, monthly farmers market, french bistro, local delicatessen, annual arts festival, micro-pub selling records and local ales, antique shops and country pubs. Wirksworth is an ideal place for a local relaxing stay, or to venture further into hills of the Peak District.
Hillside Cottage offers a peaceful, calming, spacious and airy double bedroom on first floor with exposed beams, high ceiling and a skylight window letting in lots of natural light and sunshine. A comfortable and chic Laura Ashley king-size bed with a lovely coil sprung mattress, luxurious mattress topper, fluffy pillows and high quality cotton bed linen for a peaceful sleep. Next to the bedroom there is a beautiful and stylish modern bathroom with freestanding sink and powerful shower, as well as nice fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries.
Downstairs has a fully equipped kitchen with high-quality Smeg appliances, including dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave and washing machine, and plenty of supplies for cooking and baking.
The cottage has everything you need for a perfect holiday and all the little extras like hair dryer, ipod dock, ironing board, free Wi-Fi, DVD player, internet enabled TV and books to read. The sunny South facing garden is a real suntrap with all day sunshine and lots of wild birds and butterflies. There is a table and chairs to sit with a glass of wine and enjoy a sunset. In the autumn you can watch the beautiful autumn colours of the trees on the fields opposite. In the winter you might be lucky to get amazing snowy fields or a frosty morning views from the cottage. Wirksworth provides an ideal base to explore the Peak District at any time of the year, with plenty of walks straight from the front door and close proximity to High Peak Trail and Carsington Water for cycling, canoing and walking, as well as close to stately homes of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. It is easy to just enjoy a lazy day in the town sampling great cake and coffee in one of the independent coffee shops with a newspaper and a stroll around the quirky and historic narrow lanes and streets of Wirksworth. St Mary’s Church, the Star Disc and the old hidden footpaths around The Dale and Greenhill offer great exploration of local heritage and architecture, and brilliant views.
Plenty of cultural activity in the town with an annual arts festival, open gardens, spring carnival, well dressings, open air cinema screenings and music nights in the pubs.
Hillside Cottage is located in Gorsey Bank, a short walk away from town centre. Gorsey Bank is a delightful hamlet of character homes located just on the outskirts of Wirksworth, overlooking the town. Many of the homes were built for the employees of Providence Mill, once a hive of industry, where narrow red tape to bind legal documents was produced. Gorsey Bank has a web of paths and walkways leading in and around this historic site.

Thank you very much for coming and for your lovely review. The garden is very peaceful and sunny indeed.
The cottage was an excellent base for our holiday. Although it was not possible to drive up to the property, we had no problems parking near the church & carrying luggage etc. to the cottage. It was a well-equipped property with everything we needed & very comfortable & cosy on colder days.
The cottage ( each room ) and the location were excellent.I really appreciated all the amenities and the provided items from the host. The location was truly village like

Thank you for your lovely review. Really pleased you had a wonderful holiday.
The cottage was exactly what we were looking for. It was small but very comfortable and it had everything that we needed. We especially loved having the espresso machine and the instant hot water. The views from all the windows were outstanding. The local home owners that we met were very helpful and provided some tips on things that they recommended to do.

The cottage was in a great location, close by to main points of interest and was presented immaculately. It truly felt like a home away from away and the views were amazing. Little touches of some milk in the fridge and sugar etc available was great. The owner was also very responsive

Charming cottage
We had a fabulous week in this beautiful holiday home. The cottage is very tastefully decorated and extremely clean with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The cottage is situated up a hill which you have to walk , not a problem at all to us but something to be aware of if you are mobility issues
We enjoyed some lovely walks from the cottage, We would highly recommend this property,
Thoroughly annoyed our stay at this cottage. Tiina has thought of everything and the little touches like biscuits, eggs and milk were greatly appreciated. I would thoroughly recommend to friends and relatives.
This is a wonderful place, quirky and very cosy. It’s a steep climb up to the cottage and the stairs are steep too, so it may not be suitable for those with mobility issues, but otherwise I highly recommend it. I also love that all the cleaning products etc are eco-friendly. I will definitely be back. Thank you Tina.
Visited this lovely little cottage over the Jubilee weekend. Perfect base for couples for exploring the south of the Peak District and about a 10 minute stroll into the village of Wirksworth which has several decent pubs and eateries. We did trips to Matlock Bath, the Heights of Abraham and Chatsworth House all within half an hour of the property. Everything about the cottage was lovely and we even bumped into Tiina who gave us some tips on places to go and kept in touch with us before and during our stay when needed. Would definitely recommend!
The cottage is small, but perfectly equipped with everything you could possibly need. It is a great starting point for various trips to the surrounding area. We had a great time and would recommend it to everyone!
Just one thing: the last few yards to the cottage are on a rather steep hill (hence "Hillside") and it can be a bit tricky to park your car there. You'll need to ascend the last few yards up to the cottage, but if you're reasonably fit, it shouldn't be a problem.

Fantastic boutique cottage in great location with
Immaculate cottage with well equipped kitchen and comfortable peaceful rooms with stylish decor. Ideal for walking and within 10 minutes of the effervescent town of Wirksworth. Feels like you're in the countryside with birdsong and variety of local birds the only resident sound. One of the very best. Tiina was a very helpful and communicative host and the information is encyclopedic. The pubs and eateries in the area are special but if you like craft ale you must go to the Feather Star.

The new Feather Star pub is great addition to the existing range of independent pubs and cafes and restaurants in town. They sell records too! And yummy pies, and great ales. I'm very pleased to hear you appreciated the effort that we've put into making the cottage a special place and the vibrant town. Thank you for coming.

Perfect countryside get away
We absolutely loved our stay in this lovely cosy cottage! Tiina had provided everything we needed for our stay including menus for local cafes, restaurants, and takeaways which we were impressed with as it's always a little awkward when you walk into somewhere not knowing if you even fancy anything but with the menus provided we could choose where we'd prefer, going by what we liked on the menu beforehand.
Tiina was very quick to respond to any queries I had which was great and very helpful!
It's the perfect place for a break from normality with walks close by and things to see in the area and town is only a 10-minute walk! We don't drive so the cottage was in a perfect location for us, being able to just nip down to the local shops or country walks around Wirksworth. We loved the little garden and as the weather was nice we got to just chill out, sat on the chairs and could admire the surrounding hills and watch the birds, butterflies, and bees, all busy in the garden.
The cottage was very clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was also just as I like it, nice and powerful and perfect temperature!
Highly recommend Hillside Cottage and Tiina! If you're staying in Wirksworth, make sure you stay here! :)

Lovely to hear that you had a great time and enjoyed the cottage. Hope to see you again.
Lovely cosy cottage, clean and very well equipped. It has a nice elevated position and a small garden with table and chairs which is perfect for a morning coffee or afternoon cuppa. There are lots of walks in the area so we didn't use our car during our stay, we parked near the church, a short walk away. Tiina is a great host and responds quickly. Highly recommended.

Lovely that you enjoyed your stay. We've just been for one of the walks from the cottage. Such nice views. Hope to see you again.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely, cosy cottage. Perfect position as shops, pubs, restaurants, walks all within easy reach but far enough out of the way to be quiet and peaceful at night. Only downside is the steep hill up to the cottage- not a problem for us but could be for anyone less fit / able . Will definitely go again.
We enjoyed our stay in what is a perfect cottage for two.
We
Had dinner at the pub which was good and also went to the arts cinema which is recommended.
Wirksworth itself isn’t picturesque but has lovely countryside on its doorstep

About the host
Hosted by Tiina Hill
We are a family living in Wirksworth with an enthusiasm for the outdoors and the cultural life. Wirksworth provides the perfect base for both! We love the artist community in Wirksworth, the annual arts festival and all the other creative activity that takes place. We are always happy to give you ideas for places to visit, or to go walking and cycling. I love fell running and walking in the hills, and my husband loves his collection of mountain and road bicycles and likes to get out mountain biking in the Peak District at every opportunity. The cottage has lots of maps and books for ideas on where to go. We very warmly welcome you here and happy to help you make the most of your stay.
Why they chose this property
We lovingly renovated the cottage, and have spent happy times there ourselves and now want to let other people enjoy the magical countryside spot. I always feel that Hillside Cottage is a very happy beautiful cottage with the beautiful sunlight it gets and the great suntrap garden with lots of birds and butterflies.
What makes this property unique
The cottage has an amazing tranquility and peace about it as it has a Scandinavian influenced beautiful decor, and has views of hills and fields. The garden offers a perfect opportunity for watching the evening sunset with a glass of wine, or enjoy the frosty views in the winter.
