About this property
Alpine rural retreat with fabulous views yet close to lakeside facilities
Roveglio (Bramble Farm) is a beautifully restored early 19th century farm. Five minutes drive up from the lakeside town of Lenno, the air is fresh and scented with wild herbs. Instead of traffic you church bells and crickets.
The Cottage was converted recently for the owners' use, providing a spacious and luxurious home from home for a tranquil break in spring, summer or autumn. Don't take our word for what it offers - please look at the guest comments.
The farm produces prize-winning single-estate extra virgin olive oil and organic hand-made cheese. The animals are kept away from the domestic buildings - but the dogs, goats and rabbits are a draw for children. With the introduction of solar panels, we are now also carbon-neutral.
The location is ideal for walks to Madonna del Soccorso, a World Heritage Site (45 minutes) and the steeper route to the hermitage of San Bernadetto (90 minutes). It is only two kilometres from Lenno and a car is essential. Lenno offers a thriving weekly market, supermarkets, banks and a pharmacy, as well as restaurants, bars, a wonderful lido for sunbathing and lake swimming and the breathtaking Villa Balbienello. It is within easy reach by road or ferry of other lakeside towns, each with their own attractions. Lake Como offers something for everyone.

About the host
Hosted by Jeannie Willan

This is Paul and my daughter Emma getting some new garden furniture ready. We're a Manchester-based, Anglo-Italian family. I visited Lake Como while inter-railing and said then "this is a place I could retire to". Imagine my surprise when my then fiancé brought me to see his old family home.
We have been spending a part of our holidays here ever since, involving teenage boys, small children and now teenage girls - not to mention a large number of friends and family members. It simply is a place to share.
And even after all these years we are still finding new delights and things to do on Lake Como. We love the swimming, the walking, the ice-creams, the food, the music and above all the warmth and tranquillity. It would give me enormous pleasure to be able to talk to you, to answer any questions and help you get the most out of your holiday.

Why they chose this property
Roveglio has been in our family since about 1880 - an ancestor was Mayor of Lenno and the family tomb is in Lenno cemetery. So we have a long-term commitment to both Roveglio and Lake Como.
My mother-in-law spent much of the war here - there was no running water or electricity. She and my father-in-law renovated the main house in the 1970s as a retirement project and later converted The Cottage in 1996 for their own use.
We took over the management of the farm in 2006 and since then have been focussed on reclaiming the overgrown woodland, improving the pasture and planting more olive trees - our olive oil recently won Best in Class in the New York International Olive Oil Competition and has been awarded DOP status in Italy.
Roveglio has the most amazing views and, because it is uphill from the lake, even on hot days there is a breeze. You do need a car and a bit of confidence to tackle the steep lane.

What makes this property unique
Set in fields in the fresh mountain air, Roveglio is only 5 minutes by car from the village of Lenno, 15 minutes by foot (longer climbing uphill back)! You can set off on mountain walks from the door or just relax and read, smelling the wild mint and hearing the church bells and crickets, The Cottage has both a dining and a sunbathing terrace, as well an area of lawn and access to the garden. And you are very welcome to visit other parts of the farm - see the animals and taste our cheese and olive oil.
