A welcome pack is also provided on arrival and our English speaking managers are on hand with local advice and tips or to help out if needed. Head out to explore the unspoiled local region dotted with numerous picturesque villages and local vineyards. Wonderful walks and great cycling countryside on the doorstep through sunflower fields to nearby hamlets and villages. There is also a local swimming lake nearby with small beach just 5 minutes drive away with a lifeguard and temporary cafe selling great steak frites during the the summer months. The beautiful coastal towns of La Rochelle and Royan, as well as the islands of Ile de Ré and Ile d'Oleron, are wonderful places to visit for the day as well as local towns and cities including Cognac, Poitiers, and Angouleme and attractions such as Futuroscope and Vallee des Singes.

About the host
Hosted by James Wignall

We live in Scotland with our two children aged 8 and 4 and have spent wonderful holidays and summers at the house sometimes on our own but more often than not with friends and/or family as the house is perfect for larger groups.
As we are both self employed we have previously spent as much time as possible at the house where we have made lots of friends and explored the region when we haven't been renovating the house.
When our children were very small we did actually live in the house for a couple of years enjoying the laid back lifestyle before work dragged us back to the UK. We especially enjoyed the fact that we could spend so much time outdoors from enjoying breakfast in the garden to late night swims - definitely not an option in not so sunny Scotland.

Why they chose this property
We bought the property ten years ago and it's been a labour of love renovating it since then. Despite the state of it when we first bought it, we fell in love with how bright it was once the shutters are thrown open and the lovely size and scale of its rooms. The garden was the final tipping point with its wide flat lawn with mature trees (some unusual for this region) plus the bountiful cherry trees.
The location is very quiet and tranquil in a small pretty hamlet surrounded by sunflower fields and vineyards. It's the perfect location to get away from it all yet it's still within reach of lots of things to do including the coast and some beautiful sandy beaches, lakes and lovely riverside bars and restaurants. Traffic will never be a problem here unless you get stuck behind a tractor.

What makes this property unique
The property is in the ideal location to explore the region with its main local towns and cities of Cognac, Angouleme, Poitiers within easy reach. The beaches and coastal towns of La Rochelle, Ile de Re and Royan are only an hours drive away and there are plenty of local lakes nearby with lovely riverside bars and restaurants along the winding Charente river. The river itself has many bathing areas and is great for canoeing and kayaking.
In terms of getting to the property, there are 4 airports within easy reach including La Rochelle, Poitiers, Limoges and Bordeaux plus it's only a day's drive from Calais and less than that from Caen and Le Havre. Added to which the Charente has the reputation for being the second sunniest region of France.
