Second stay at River Cottage and it was as fabulous as the first. Location can’t be beat! The cottage is clean, quite large for our party of 4 and with well equipped kitchen - we hope to stay a third time!
Clean Tidy and everything on hand for a great stay. Perfectly Positioned near Keswick Town Centre, but very quiet as well. Didn't get the chance to try out the new Riverside Decking Area due to the Rainy weather, but will hope to be back again one day soon. AWESOME PLACE
We rent many holiday properties and this rates as one of the best. It was spotless on arrival and lovely and warm and welcoming on what was a chilly June day.
It is well equipped especially in the kitchen which suited us as we love to cook. There is a nice little set of outdoor furniture to enjoy the garden which backs onto the river, although you have to stand to see it over the protective wall. We had a few sunny days to enjoy this .
The bedrooms were clean and comfortable and both had TVs which our son who was with us to recover from surgery appreciated. There was always plenty of hot water and the huge bath was enjoyed.
The internet was fast, again appreciated by our son who had several uni assignments to complete while he was off his feet recovering.
my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Lakes and found the cottage well positioned to get to many glorious walks including around Derwent Wayer, Scafell Pike, Ullswater and Latrigg no where we wanted to visit took longer than 30 mins to drive to. There is a co-op and a Booths within 5mins walk so all perfect.
Check in and out was a doddle and we had no need to contact the owners during our stay, although Stephen answered all my questions quickly before we arrived.
We would have no hesitation to book this cottage again when we return to the area it was fabulous

Perfect location & most comfortable cottage
River Cottage was in the perfect location to explore the Lakes and a few minutes walk into town to enjoy Keswick. The Cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. We were lucky with the weather (lovely temperature throughout the week & after the heatwave in the south we welcomed rain on the Monday). We spent 6 of our 7 evenings in the garden. A lovely week and we have returned home relaxed and recharged. Would only suggest a guest book to write in places to visit and eat etc. We enjoyed a meal & numerous coffees at the Square Orange.

Simply superb
Took a late booking and we were absolutely delighted with River Cottage. Excellent quality of furnishings and fittings throughout. Very clean. Very comfortable beds. Good WiFi and good tv. Very convenient for Keswick, which is a short walk into town . Lovely views of the mountains from the property. We visited during a very cold winter spell and were cosy and warm in the cottage. A couple of extra equipment items in the kitchen would have been welcome. Good communications with the owners. Highly recommended.

What a find !
River Cottage is a beautifully maintained cottage . The attention to detail is stunning and spotlessly clean.
My husband and I particularly loved the sound of running water from the river behind the cottage. Can't wait to visit again and enjoy the patio outside with a glass of vino !
Our daughter loved the huge bath !
So easy to walk into Keswick and access some of the most amazing walks on your doorstep.
Owners were nearby too which is a huge bonus .
A fantastic start to 2018 .

Pros and cons
Pros:
Spacious
Comfy beds
Well situated
Light and airy
Cons
Badly chipped crockery
Slow rate of drainage in upstairs bathroom
Dishwasher not useable as it left grit on plates even after cleaning the spray arms
Kitchen not well equipped with utensils even tho large amt of cupboard space
No hanging space for dresses in front bedroom
No place for soap when taking a bath
Mould in shower cubicle
During the week the road outside was resurfaced. Large noisy machines woke our friends in the front bedroom and our exit and entrance was hampered.

Fabulous property in a great location
The property was exceptionally well equipped with everything you needed to ensure a pleasurable stay. Everything was very modern and the property was extremely spacious and comfortable. It was only a few minutes walk to Keswick town centre which was so convenient. Would definitely recommend this property for anyone looking for a relaxing break away. Views from the windows of the mountains in the distance were fabulous. Thank you.

Wonderful
The property was very clean, functional and beautifully presented. The listing description was nearly accurate. No mention was made that the bathroom and shower room were not on the same floor, and that neither was en-suite.
Loads of room downstairs, nice back garden area. Plenty of room to park three cars to front and side of the property.
Best bit was the wonderful location close to the centre of town.
We would definitely recommend it to others and have already booked for next year!

About the host
Hosted by Stephen Lyle-Mason
We are Stephen & Di Lyle-Mason. Di has lived in this most beautiful town of Keswick since she was 12 years old. It took me a few more years to join her. We have had our Guest House (Stonegarth) since 1990 and purchased our first self catering property, Fernbank House (ref E16680 ) in 1996. We chose this house as we believed there was a gap in the market for a high quality house that could sleep ten. In 2004 we seized the opportunity to purchase Porch Cottage (ref E16717) This grade 2 listed cottage dates back to 1698 and was in need of a complete restoration. We hope you like the results. In 2013 we kept walking past what is now known as River Cottage (ref E16653) . After saying to each other that we shouldn't get another property, we went for a viewing. The rest as they say is history.
